  • Ravens Ridge is an extended, shuttleable DH trail just outside of Portland, Oregon. Offering incredible views, a variety of surfaces from rooty tech to high-speed sweeping corners, and an extended 5-minute plus high-speed descent, this trail really exemplifies the best of what PNW trails have to offer.
I had the opportunity to give 27.5" wheels a test on this trail- my first time riding this wheel size after 3 years on 29's. I did a warm-up lap on my standard 29" wheeled Norco Sight, and then transitioned to a very similar setup on a 27.5 Sight. Frame size, tire pressure, and suspension remained almost identical throughout the test.
While I enjoyed the experience, I find that the type of trails that I enjoy the most are better suited to larger-diameter wheels, and that the benefits of smaller wheels are lost in rougher and higher-speed terrain.
My thoughts on wheel size start at 4:18
The Wheel-size debate is always an interesting one, and I'd love to hear your thoughts! Do you ride one wheel size exclusively? Do you feel that the terrain you ride limits your options for ideal wheel size, as it does for brake or tire choice? Feel free to comment below and let's keep the debate going!

I just rode this trail yesterday it was pretty amazing and so so rough and gnarly and steep! Layout seems the same.
I hadn’t been there in four years and it seems rougher, or I’m just a worse rider. I plan to return soon.
    Thanks for the great video.

That trail looks a lot different from the last time I rode it in 2010. A lot.

Was looking for the big roller into the kicker at the bottom and holy cow couldn't even recognize the trail anymore. Last rode in 2012

Whoa, this video is freaking beautiful, did you use a gimbal? what gopro settings? I guess also having it be an absolutely stunner of a day helps too! Can't wait to hit this trail up soon.
