The damage he took accumulated but in his prime he was genuinely capable of beating ANYONE. And that fact that he’s the ONLY man with legitimate wins over both a prime Cain AND prime Stipe (both considered GOAT ufc HWs) speaks for itself. I think a prime JDS would fvck Jon Jones up and give Francis and Aspinall real problems.

Everyone calls Stipe a wrestler but he was a golden gloves boxing champ before he did MMA and he used his boxing a lot in the cage!

JDS in his prime truly was one of THE greatest all time heavyweights in mma history. The only thing I can think of when criticizing his skillset is lack of head movement, he ate more shots than he should have and eventually all that damage piled up and he simply wasn’t that same fleet-footed iron chinned killer anymore. But his resume is impeccable: Legit wins over a prime Cain, prime Stipe, prime Shane Carwin, also beat former K1 champion Mark Hunt in a striking battle with a fucking spinning back kick KO, and even in his twilight years managed to beat Tuivasa, Lewis, and Rothwell on top of stuffing every one of Curtis Blaydes’ takedown attempts. His chin just couldn’t keep up with the battering but a prime JDS could beat ANY HW (including the current cream of the cop) on any given night.
Junior Dis Santos was an absolute beast in this fight. Stipe was relentless as well and no quit in either fighter. Two absolute warriors but it was definitely Junior's night that night.

The fact that JDS is an actual BJJ black belt and never EVER used jiu-jitsu in a fight is a complete mistery to me.... Also this was the only fight I've seen from him where his sloppy body shots payed him well. Prime JDS was really scary, but the amount of damage he took in every fight after the second Cain clash, was scary too.
Man Jds was my favourite fighter back then. Those 2 Cain fights was tough to watch.
