I was actually in the Army when In the Army Now came out! For that reason alone, the movie has a special place in my heart. As for why Shore's career tanked, I think its the curse of comedy actors. No comedy star has stayed on top making movies. Even heavyweights like Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferell faded from the limelight when their style of humor got stale. It certainly didn't help that Pauly's style of humor appealed to a certain demographic that were destined to age beyond it. I'm glad to see that he's finding some success with standup still. I'd like to see him sometime, if i ever get to Las Vegas.

Between his jokes and some comedian I unfortunately can't remember saying the best line I ever heard in a conservative town. She just asked me what have I done, and I said the greatest thing ever. 90s kid so grew up with him. He has a TH-cam Channel with some good content from his actual home. He said in an interview that he is sad that he fell off the way he did which is quite unfortunate.
Pauly himself put it down to getting too big too fast, over saturation and a series of poor movie choices by him and his agent that caused him to dry up. He said something like, that he always pictured himself ending up with an Adam Sandler type of career, which we all thought too back in the 90s. But he still does stand up, you can look him up on TH-cam for his channel, and he seems to be in a good place. Great guy and a staple from my and millions of others, childhood(s).
Reference: Joe Rogan podcast for info which you can still also look up.

Pauly Shore is not my sort of comedy. But neither was Jim Carey and Adam Sandler in the same era, honestly (though Jim Carey won me over with The Mask, that movie is great in my book). Adam Sandler even won me over with The Wedding Singer. Pauly… not so much. Maybe one day. He doesn’t think have to be a serious actor, just needs to expand his normal roles. I think Encino Man 2 could be awesome. The first one asked the question of what would a caveman teenager be like, how would he interact with kids at a modern(for the 90's) high school. They could do the same thing, but asking what would a middle-aged caveman be like? Same concept of showing how he interacts with other adults, maybe in a corporate setting. Maybe Dave could be going up against Matt Wilson, or a similar character, for a promotion and Link just fumbles his way into the top spot. Idk, I think it could be fun. And we're all rooting for a Brendan Fraser come-back anyway right?

I've grew up on his films since I was a young teen. Now at 41 I still look up to him..watch all his films and support him no matter what he does. The weasel is one of a kind.

I think Pauly tried to move past the shtick, albeit a bit too late for it to gel. We all know Disney is notorious for chewing up talented people and spitting them out when they aren't making money like they once did. They could've developed projects for a grown up Pauly rather than make 4 weasel movies. It wasn't solely on him. He has a big heart in all he does though, great timing and a kid-like joy that is harder to market, but fun to watch. At least he was original. I shall be weezing the juice far into the sunset.

In early 2017 Shore had a venue in Corpus Christi, TX. He visited the local Sprouts where my son was the butcher. My son said that he was rude, talked down to staff, a seasoned arrogant jerk. When he had to deal with my son's department, he continued in his condescension. Making eye contact with my imposing 6'5" son who was holding a huge butchery knife, looked back into those condescending eyes, smirked and walked off leaving Shore unattended and stewing.

Pauly Shore was a product of the 1990’s. He just couldn’t re-invent himself as an older man in the 2000’s. He accidentally became the character he portrayed and couldn’t let it go. If he dropped his weezel character and grew up with the rest of his fans, he would probably still be in movies today. Tom Hanks, for example, was able to re-invent himself and he dropped his goofy 80’s shtick.

Didn’t he take over “The Comedy Store” on Sunset Blvd.,? As I think his parents own that. (Sorry typed before I watched the video). I saw him live in Pittsburgh back in the late 80’s early 90’s. When he squirted water on all the girls shirts in the audience. It always amazes me how many hot girls he could get to go backstage with him back then, but that was the times then, he was super popular. Yeah, times have sure changed from that scene. But he was loveeable nonetheless! Last I heard he was running things there and gave up movies thank Goodness 😆
