One very weird, but very much welcome, experience I've had with switching to oval was that I felt I gained 1 lower gear and 1 higher gear compared to the round ring. Weird but wonderful 👍🏼👍🏼
I am an xc racer, I have a really sick new bike coming this spring. I am thinking of picking up an oval just to mess around with. Who knows it might help my longer distance stamina. I cant wait for this upcoming season!!
Sweet review. I’m on the same boat as u man - ride at night and Saturday mornings. Work n got family. Just ordered an oval myself. Can’t wait til it comes in. 🍻
I just instaled it. My thoughts are its nice to uphill riding but on the road and fast passages, the legs and ass on the saddle jump up and down and I don't really know if it's pleasant.
Oval chain ring from AB will bee my next purchase. I just can't settle on tooth size. I want to get my rear cassette more into the middle gears to have chain straighter. Currently have round 30T settles on an oval 28T.
My 2 cents should have stayed 30 or maybe even gone 32. I found 32 was the sweet spot for me. I went from 30 round to 32 round 32 oval and 34 oval after experimenting for a while with all of them 32 oval was best overall. Lots of climbing here in the northeast and I go 270 lbs so 34 was a little to much to push with bad knees.
I took off a 32 round and put on 30 Gold Oval (to match my pedals) and I was blown away by the even energy transfer to the Cassette through all the circuit of the Crank. I'll never go back to Round Rings.
Absolutely not the case. Both my knees need replacement and have been bad for years I weigh 270. Switched to oval and never looked back. No added knee pain actually less than before. Don't think twice give it a go I think you will love it. Really helped my climbing.
FYI - I just took off my 30 tooth round chainring and replaced it with the Absolute Black 32 tooth oval. Chain fit perfectly on my 10 speed cassette. Shifts perfectly. I haven't given it a tough ride yet, but rode it around the neighborhood and it seems fine. Big thumbs up, and the oval immediately felt great. Very smooth and nothing strange at all. I think I'm going to love it. I think your chain should swap from 30 round to 30 oval just fine.

Nice bonus clips at the end, I always struggle with that quick shale rock climb.
Nice video man! got the same bike and was trying to figure out if I wanted to make the switch.. it's on!
Solid video. Thanks for posting.

Sweet! They really do make a difference..
Nice review man. I’m always up to try anything that makes the uphills for fun! Just subbed
Thanks CJ! New content coming soon. Stay tuned.
Nice straightforward review. Are you still using the oval ring? It's nice to see a NY State mtb channel
I just picked up the absolute black oval for my Trance. I also have a oneup cockpit on the way. I'm excited to get it built up.
Daniel Sam sweet! You’re gonna like the oval. I’ve held off on the oneup only because I’m looking to get new bike soon.

I find that on most climbs I can run higher gears and carry more speed. I have 1 x 12 sp SRAM drive train, most of the time I run 36T
Yeah I’m still singing the praises of my oval!

Hey man, do you notice the oval chainring having a direct effect on your suspension? Either complimenting or interfering with the anti squat?
No can’t say I have.
from what I have heard the oval chainrings really help with pedal bob. don't know if this helps
Have seen a few comments in other videos saying if you have knee problems then the oval would probably magnify those issues. Any thoughts on that?

@@barefootbob1269 .....thanks for the response.....exactly what I’m looking for
Agree with Bob!
I have a 30tooth round right now but thinking if i get the 30tooth oval, am i also adjusting my chain? Thanks

Its fine
Hey mate, would you say ovals are better than the standard round? I just want to hear you opinion, thanks.
Never mind. Question answered in the video.
second opinion oval is better than round.
@@barefootbob1269 in my experience, yes they're pretty much the same but the oval feels ever so slightly faster. (I've installed them already)
