Beautiful video of the lithographic printmaking process, but the complete absence of any audio or textual description of what is being shown greatly diminishes its educational value.

Did anyone else get massively anxious when he put the blue stuff on & it turned the entire piece black?

So you used about 30 different chemicals and explained 0% of the process....

10 chemicals or additives are used. There are plenty of other videos on youtube that *could* help you if you are attentive enough to pay attention.
      1. Drawing Material
      2. Talc Powder (White)
      3. TAPEM (Tannic Acid Plate Etch Type Solution)
      4. Neutral Sponge
      5. Cheesecloth
      6. Lithotine, a turpentine solvent with pine oil additive.
      7. Vegetable Oil to help the plate take ink.
      8. Deep Etch V Lacquer Solution to encourage better plate printing life.
      9. Asphaltum, a sticky resin that snaps off when ink is applied.
      10. Water, to dissolve gum barrier during printing.

I wish our professor would teach this. I'm a printmaking major and she refuses to have a lithography class.

Watching that process and the perfectness and caring that is taken to do this, inspires me. I wish I could participate in doing this...

Interesting, beautiful and a wonder that you can just keep on oiling and inking then inkling and oiling just a little more...nice to see the 21century rush hasn't reached your studio.

Why would you choose this over screen printing? Does the print have better detail than a screen printed image?

Nice demonstration and great litho press. We all have our own methods. As an experienced lithographer I would add paper or blotter over the printing paper. Also I would not use the wood spacer bar as I deem it unneeded. I can understand that people unfamiliar with the process would want a verbal explanation.

Very good video as a priming video to let people get interested and fascinate those who do know about lithography. It's a very good video with a delicate drawing to go with the plate.

Tremendous Lithographic process instead of stone.... Here I am making my Lithographic prints using the same plate but not processing by the same toxic reagents..... I am doing with non-toxic mediums … Xerox-Toner drawing on transparent plastic film and transfer on plate by light additively and plate develop by silicon glue.... printing without water .. this process called Waterless Lithograph. Its most easier like your process.

Fascinating to watch this - I'd like to ask how you managed to create the lettering at the bottom of the print? Is this hand drawn also?

Hi Chris benson. 2 questions please. 1)So basically a lithographs is copy and paste right? Or similar to the printer?
    2) if an artist/painter do that example but with a painting (oil on canvas) then how do the 2nd copy (lithograph print) comes out?

A ball-grained aluminum plate. The plate reacts to phosphoric acid.

This is great, but even as someone who knows what's going on, it's tough to follow because there is no rhyme or reason to what you're doing. My friend just saw this with her own eyes and said it could've been magic for all she knew because how this all happened makes absolutely no sense. I agree. There needs to be more explanation, even if it's just a description at the beginning of the video.
