One thing I would have like to see from Laurie was a Canadian combo about "the right gear" and "are you crashing". Up here this means wearing enough rubber to stay warm while crashing and it's a huge part of progression in the shoulder seasons. All too often I find myself holding back to avoid a chilly dunk.

Thanks for this great summary. I definitely share the « if you don’t crash, you don’t progress » moto :-) on the ´teaming’ practice I found it soooo effective to get filmed either self filming with a GoPro in your kite lines or your friend filming you : this gives me the opportunity to spot so many defects that I didn’t notice while riding

Nice idea to share the video with Laurie. Good tips - agree to all aspects. Progression is difficult when you live 275 km from the next kite beach, but I try to be on the water at least 1-2 days/month plus several kite trips for a week - so total 30-40 days/year - this is a lot when it compares to most other beginner/intermediate kiters I know ...
I wish you all the best for 2020, good wind, and great time kitesurfing

Shout out to the old school LF FoilFish 6:26 !!! Just picked one up on CraigsList 4 months ago. Wasn't planning on trying to learn foilboarding for years, but when fate offers you one up for 300 bucks ( learning masts included ) ... you jump on it !

Great video guys !!! As an instructor specialized into advanced lessons (coachings) I was curious to listen what you had to say and I must admit the tips are pretty good. If I may, I would add one little thing : do a kite coaching with a recommended instructor. I take care of about 100 kiters a year and the results are super interesting. Many people that were stuck are then back on track and excited as they were on their 1st year of kiting.

Thanks for this Guys. You have reminded me that I'm not trying hard enough...As Aero Venus noted I also Kite alone. On the North Sea with strong currents and side shore wind so concern about rescue is the limiting factor.

So great to see you and Laura sharing your channel!😎
You may possibly do the same with French channels as OLK or LabTV
Thank you both of you for this good Christmas gift and clever advices as always!👍

Sorry Laurie for the typo, which is certainly a revealing slip as I have a nice 3y old granddaughter named Laura, who I dream the lead to learn kite and to practice it as well as you do😎
I am not very sure that her mother will let me do, 😇but I would like to know what is the minimum age 🎂to start the learning curve?

Well done as always Kyle and Laurie. I guess this was the next best thing to enjoying some cold water sessions north of the border? Lake Ontario isn’t frozen yet. Just saying.

I rode a 134/42 Monk for years before trying my mates 140/43 Ronson that I thought would be to big for me as a 5'10"/90kg, rider but to my delight I was totally wrong. For me 2020 will be all about wave riding on a foil or a twin tip and trying not to be tempted by kite wings for foilsurfing, those who have ventured are frothing for every session.

I'd love to see a video from the two of you on kiting posture. Also, vertically challenged people like me have to reach to de-power, rolling our shoulders forward. There is no way that I know of to shorten the throw without losing range - the system was designed for people with longer arms than some of us.

I think I hit all the check points, crashing for sure, but I got cut while learning foiling, and while I can foil good my transition is lacking because of fear of getting all cut up.
Since I kite most everyday, most people can't and I kite alone. Without anyone around to try new things is risky.

    • @ofk3290

Lone Kiters unite !..... no i guess we don't do that. I also have concerns and won't try risky moves without someone around, but since I am very independent and, like you, can kite when others can't, I will try low risk moves in shallow water. Right now trying to figure out duck tackts on strapless surfboard. Something could still go wrong, but it's all about minimizing the risks.... hell, everytime you leave the house, you are taking a chance.

I've been wondering what demarks the line from beginner to intermediate. Are you saying that you are still in the beginner level unless you are jumping? I can ride upwind and transition with ease but not trying jumps yet. Not that it really matters but I was curious...
Since I just started at 68 I wasn't even sure I'd progress to jumping... just more advanced transitions and maybe foiling.

    • @TheOKKiteboarder
      @TheOKKiteboarder  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, I would say that basic jumps and load and pop are more on the transition from beginner to intermediate, but much of this is very subjective.

I would like to add: don't get hurt, in line with your comments about fundamentals..I guess not so much with crashing.
