It’s unbelievable how you are willing to give anything a go and your work ethic just keeps impressing me more and more. I hope you don’t mind, but I use your videos as inspiration for my students. I’m an industrial arts teacher in NSW Australia (woodwork, metalwork, tech drawing, engineering and design) and I’ve been working with young people and students for nearly 40 years. It is so refreshing to see you go out and just get stuck in and give it a go. No whining or whinging (on camera anyway) or looking for help before having a go yourself. Keep the great content coming.

Yes sir. I our younger years the only way to learn a trade was to work hard enough so the old timers would give you the skills they have learned. The old timers love the work and loved to give the knowledge to younger guys but you had to earn it with a good work ethic. The kids now a days are not concerned about Carrying on the skills as much. It nice to see younger guys with a good work ethic. I have 6 kids and lucky for me they all are great kids with a good work ethic. They had to earn everything they got. It makes a difference. We can easily pick out the spoiled kids now a days.

Add another panel to the back area you were thinking about leaving open., go for the cleaner look with black carpet like the rest. You do such good work I think it might leave the "unfinished" look and you know it will bug you, so just go ahead and do it now.

An idea for that back panel is, cut a piece of that carpet exact and slowly spray glue it on the back. Press all those patterns into the carpet while gluing it so you can still see the patterns thru the carpet.

  • @dongraham1559

Instead of the wood panel in the back and the unfinished blue paint (which imho looks odd), what about you just carpet over the whole area. Spray contact adhesive and work the carpet into all the metalwork so the pattern can still be seen.
I suspect the carpet you have is too thick, so use thin "stretch" carpet, the type used for camper van conversions. You could also use the same stretch carpet for the roof lining as long as you use spray contact adhesive that can withstand high temperatures. Ask the camper van conversion guys, they do it all the time.
Will look really good, and do you really need that sheet of wood in the back of your build?
Look forward to see it finished, looking good!!

The interior is always my favorite part - painting vs replacing, pure genius and it looks so GOOD! (No anxiety while you were trimming off the excess carpet on your board with that razor blade. Nope, none at all 😮) That motor looks beastly, can't wait!

Here I am in the Netherlands at 11 pm, waiting for this hero to upload a new video with his E30. A car that you still see quite a lot here (mostly BMW purists) so I am curious to see how someone from the USA will build it! Keep it up, it looks really clean! I was doing the same thing a couple months ago with my ‘85. I bought it with no interior other than two junk racing seats and a dashboard. I’ve been using my ‘88 parts car and swapped the whole interior. I used the same paint you used for my back panel with the speakers, swapped the dash from the ‘88 and painted it along with the console. Side back panels weren’t too bad and I haven’t gotten to the door panels yet. The seats from the parts car are pretty rough, but I kinda like the aged look on certain things. I painted the whole interior with rust reformer paint after patching some holes in the floor pan, I think it looks pretty good as I’m not using the carpet. I used bed liner on the footwell areas and have been painting the engine bay lately. I also undercoated the whole driver side and wheel wells so far. Mine isn’t gonna have a roll cage or cool motor or anything, but it’s looking a lot better. I also had to fix a lot of the normal things the car should have(dome lights, horn that works, power locks, cruise control, washer fluid reservoir and pump, rear seat belts, etc.) The previous owner had cut all the wiring and deleted all that stuff so it’s been a pain, but I’ve learned a lot about the e30’s in the process. There are differences in the interior, seat belts, and wiring, gauge clusters between my two e30’s which have given me issues but I’m making progress. I loved watching you work on the Mustang as the first Mustangs are my favorite, but seeing you guys working on your e30’s is more enjoyable because you’re doing a lot of the things I’ve been doing. You definitely have better resources and talent than I do though. Keep up the great work.

future advice: My dad was a carpet layer for 40 plus years and if I've learned many things from him, always let the cleaner soak into the carpet before you start scrubbing it. they also have die where you can dye the carpet to match the original color. Please wear a respirator when you're painting inside. I know that you think you're going to live forever but you'll thank me when you're in your fifties.

    • @MichaelWilloughby
