My eldest is a Black&Tan tabby called Lt. Frannington. When he was 14 he started to lose weight and struggle. Fell off the bed and pooped himself while trying to reach a tray 20 feet away.
In his case it turned out to be IBD so a grain-free diet and Cobalaplex (vitamin B12) sprinkle on his food did the job. He's here with us some 4 years later.
But you know what? This is a family member. Take them to their doctor (vet) as soon as you can. We wouldn't have understood it otherwise.

My cat is 18, but now only looks and acts about 7, he shoots around the garden, even tearing up the tree trunk, and loves to play with his toys again. He has been arthritic since 4 years old, but is now only bad on damp days, when he does stiffen up and can even find stairs a bit of a challenge.
He has bright clear healthy eyes, healthy gums & no bad breath what so ever, and a beautiful clean, tangle free thick silky double coat, and hes regained the muscle mass he had in his prime, he’s a perfect size(sometimes I think someone swapped our little old man for a cuddly chunky bear cub). He has an appetite of a lion, and is not shy in letting us know when he’s hungry, by literally yelling the house down, using his newly acquired frighteningly high decibel yodelling 😅 which could wake the dead!
He’s an over all picture of perfect health!
This wasn’t so just 1 year ago. The Vets said he was on his way out, he was very skinny, with hip bones and spine clearly visible. He never ever cleaned himself, had horrendously bad breath🤢🤮was vomiting most days and was continuously covered in badly matted hair over 40% of his body, which we found extremely difficult to deal with, as doing so caused him so much pain and anxiety even with 3 people trying our utmost. His eyes were always funky with a foggy cloud over his lenses. Daily we were cleaning his eyes, his bottom, and his coat and just trying to make his final days as comfortable as possible.
He wasn’t interested in eating his usual food, so we started hand feeding him from our plates, as he showed interest in what we were eating. I’d not long started a carnivore diet with a 15-20% fat content, in an attempt to improve my health and possibly help with my Diabetes. I reduced my Carbohydrates consumption to just the Full Fat milk I consumed in coffee, no other carbs at all !!!
Slowly his appetite came back, as did his weight and most shockingly all the other health benefits followed. He is still on a high protein diet, of salmon, tuna, chicken, rump steak, ox heart or lambs liver, and occasionally king prawns or crab, all cooked fresh daily whilst cooking for us. He refuses to eat left overs fridges and served up the next day😮😂🤣😂🤣
Incidentally in the same 12 month period of the same high fat and protein diet, I have lost 84 lbs, no longer take Diabetic meds, no longer need driving glasses, have recovered 50% hair growth that I’d lost over past 10 years, no longer get ill or have infections, have stopped taking antibiotics which I’ve been prescribed daily for 4.5 years, have masses of energy, and apparently look 15 years younger!! We’ve both been given a new lease of life, that was not expected😮😊
Why are we being told Veganism is the way to go and not eat natural fats or red meats, but increase our carbohydrate consumption!?!?
Whilst at the same time these so called experts are Scratching their heads and asking……..
WHY IS DIABETES ON THE INCREASE? ⁉️
WHY ARE PEOPLE SO FAT? ⁉️
    WHY ARE PEOPLE SO ILL?⁉️
    ETC ETC…………⁉️⁉️⁉️
Humans and cats are CARNIVORES, like it or not, DOES NOT CHANGE THAT FACT‼️

Do you follow a specific recipe for your cat or just throw him whatever meat he likes? I'm super burnt on all these recipes I'm trying to figure out. My cat sounds the same & I'm over the vets at this point. Thumbs up on carnivore diet all the way around. Thanks!

My cat is a month short of 20.
He has liver damage but I’ve bought him time by giving him injections of water from the side of the mouth. I give him about 5 a day,
Don’t do it centrally in their mouths, they may choke, just a little at a time.
He looked really poorly last year, but this with his thyronorm has kept him from going into stage 4. There’s no way the vet expected him to still be here.

I recently went through this with my elderly cat. She's 16, and she was eating so much but you could feel her spine and hip bones. Took her to the vet and she has hyperthyroidism, so 2 pills a day for the rest of her life. Pills have helped a lot, and changing her diet to a high protein senior formula has helped. Her average weight was 8 lbs. Her lowest just a few months ago was 5.6 lbs. Not certain of her current weight but you can feel much less of her spine and her hips are nowhere near as pronounced. Its taken her about 5 months to adjust to the new food and medicine routine (meaning I can medicate her and she doesn't run when she hears the pill bottle lol). She's still very active, and I hope to have her around for many more years!
Edit- I've also changed where she eats. I basically take her wet food to her, where ever she is. When she is done and doesn't finish I put it up so my other cat doesn't touch it and give it to her again a few hours later. This has helped too cause my other cat is a fattie and has zero issue with eating and doesn't need the extra food lol

My 16 year old, used to weigh over 11 pounds. Now he is down to 6.7 pounds and his fur has gotten thin enough that his hip bones and spine show through. My vet said that he probably won't groom himself anymore. I was afraid he was in pain and took him to have him put to sleep but the vet said he was fairly healthy. About every 4 or 5 days, he throws up several times and wont's eat for a couple of days. Some days, he wants to eat several times a day and I feed him both soft food and soft centered dry foods. He is always more interested in any food I fix for myself and demands that it be offered to him or he will try to pull my plate down to see what is there. He loves it when I fix chicken or any kind of pork. I think he'd eat people food everyday, even when he is nauseous. I'm thinking about cooking extra food for him that I could freeze and zap some to give him each day but unsure if that is the correct thing to do.

Hi Mike ,it sounds like your cat is actually unwell ,even if it is just age related illness .I would consider going back to the vet or phoning for some advice ,most practices are happy to give phone advice .In the mean time I would avoid giving him too much human food ,esp anything processed in any way or any kind of carbs .Cooked chicken ,beef or fish would be an exception to that ,provided there is no added salt or herbs etc it is very good for him .There are also high calorie pastes and liquids that can be added to cat food or fed as treats .These are made specifically for thin or ill cats and have the right kind of added vitamins etc .If you do cook your own food for him you will need to add cat specific supplements like taurine ,these can also be bought .Finally there are companies that make human grade wet food for cats that already contain the proper additives ,you can usually get trail packs through the mail then decide if you want a regular subscription .Good luck to you and your cat ,I hope you find something to keep him and his stomach happy .Wendy Langcake .

Andrew, I should have mentioned that I've known for a year that the cat has hepatitis. When I took him in this last time, his liver blood work was better and the other results were good. He had a bad ear infection and stayed at the vet's for a couple of days before coming back home. He was totally devoted to my brother who died this past May 24th. The cat used to sleep with his head in my brother's outstretched hand. I think, part of his problem, as he has been going downhill since my brother's death is, like myself, he is grieving the loss of my brother. I have 3 cats that all get anxious whenever I am gone more than a few hours. I may be giving them too much credit as to their cognitive abilities, but as they saw my brother leave the house and never return, I think they may believe I'm not coming back either. As Tiger has stopped grooming himself, I now try to brush him, when I can. About the food, the other 2 cats eat a mixture of Blue Wilderness foe sensitive stomachs, Nutro for indoor senior cats and Special Kitty kitten food, plus whatever 9 lives canned cat food until they tire of a flavor so I switch back and forth between about 4 different flavors depending on what they want, which means I have 4 cases of different things they will eat, besides canned tuna.

If you are a cat lover, you can't help but feel the urge to touch the fur of a cat just when it is in front of you. If you are a cat lover, just seeing a cat in front of you is enough to make you feel the urge to touch its fur. In particular, it is a blissful moment when you can slowly pet your cat on your lap. The expression on a cat's face as it squints when you gently stroke its tiny head is irresistible. Another soothing place for cat lovers to pet is... the puffy paw pads. Cats usually don't like to have their hands touched, but when they are sleeping, they can enjoy the feeling to the fullest. The soft and slightly warm paw pads can only be enjoyed when there is trust between you and your cat. If you are a cat lover, you may be attracted to the feeling of opening the paw or purring. It is often thought that cats do not express their emotions as clearly as dogs do, but when you are stroking their bodies, you can really feel their feelings.😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻

I had such a difficult time getting getting my cat to eat .and the cat doesnt like men ... I took over her care when her previous 80 year old owner had to go into a care facility ..had to take the 13 year old cat to the vet ...when somehow had an accident after having her for a few months .i dont know how it happened but some how..kitty had knocked out her 2 upper fang teeth ...she had only her 2 lower canine fangs plus her molars....took her to the vet ..,she was off of her food wouldnt eat dry catfood ...so got her wet food ... tried some of that ..,but then the food would get caught in her bottom fangs and she would use her tongue to try and dislodge the trapped food ..with her tongue moving around in her mouth trying to get the trapped food out making all these funny cat faces with her tongue rolling around in her mouth ...even tried her on the fancy feast..the kind with the sauce an bits of food mixed up ...she would lick up all the sauce and leave the food bits behind .....what ever the cat did to herself i dont know ... she sure had a bad accident to knock out her 2 top fangs ...they were completely broken off ...it looks weird when she eats ...shes a good kitty ... but finally the vet had to get her back to eating ...her blood work was good ...so had to give her a medicine to increase her appetite... but purchased so many kinds of wet food ....she loved those.... temptation treats ...but i even chopped up the fancy feast food into smaller bits ..and even thinned out the wet food with a bit of water to make it easier to slurp up by the cat ....even warmed up the catfood in the microwave... so it wasnt cold ... dont know what else to do....so used to vet medicine as a last resort ...now she gives me a "dirty look "on her face when its time to give her this vet medicine ...i know she doesnt like it .... but what can i do ....oh and another thing ...this cat hates men ...so doesnt like my son...and i believe this cat was traumatized by the previous owners grandsons kids ..so have that to deal with as well ....she is a pretty long fur apricot ginger tabby markings and mild mannered ...but she only likes female owners not male ....so she runs away when she heards my son going around the house ....or runs to me .... so its been pretty fustrating since her accident with the teeth...dont know what else i can do

@@martynraveybracey7202 the problem was ...if i didnt take the cat ....the owner said she didnt want to get kitty put down ... so there wasnt much choice in the matter ...the problem was this 80 year old owner had to move into a care facility and couldnt take her kitty with her ...plus it was getting to the point where the owner was having difficulty caring for her ...what i found out after the fact was ,....the elderly woman was feeding kitty meals in her bedroom ..and feeding treats inside her bed one by one ....with kitty wrapped a blanket in a totally quiet atmosphere where she would hold her for hours at a time .in her arms .. so the cat became her baby ...and her grandsons would visit and somehow traumatized the cat during their visits . Kids being kids . i know with young children they probably were not as patient ..and so by the time i got kitty ..she was mangy ...fur not brushed matted fur ... yes she was well loved... but u could see eyes were crusty .....there were some problems ...so just had to plod along best we could ...so she was doing better till she had the accident with the teeth .. as i had never had something like that to happen ......but to arrange to put her into another household at this point would not be fair for her ....shes 13 years old ...i had 2 cats that lived to be 19 and 24 1/2 years old .. so shes not the type of cat to be put into a noisey household . .the vet said that kitty may never adjust to males ...but my neighbor told me their pet had taken 6 years to adjust ... from being rescued from an abused household ....so it may take awhile ..and just continue plodding along while her mouth heals from the accident with the teeth.....i set up 2 feeding stations in the house ...plus feeding her wet food mushed up like baby food along with her dry food ...the good thing the vet said she hasnt lost any weight and was well hydrated with good blood work ...so we just have to take it slowly while she heals

Hi ,I would shop around for a highly scented wet food in those little snack size pouches ,they are normally labeled as having fine or select cuts and marketed as a sort of luxury cat food .I have found that those labeled as having liver ,duck or salmon in then tend to have a strong smell .My 11 yr old cat isn't big on wet food but he will eat these happily .Adding aromatic things to cat food isn't really a good idea unless you know exactly what appeals to your cat and is safe .If your cat likes fish then an alternative could be tinned sardines ,pilchards or mackerel in natural oil ,well drained and without bones ,these should be safe as an additive or treat .Wendy Langcake .

Then ONLY 2 TIMES A WEEK to maintain. Also add cooked plain pumpkin/carrots, raw pumpkin seeds, probiotics, plain organic kefir, plain whole fat organic yogurt, organic unsalted butter, liver, sardines in water, organic coconut oil, (organic flaxseed meal or psyllium husks powder, or organic oatmeal mixed in water) wild caught salmon with bones in water, chicken THIGH/LEGS no white meat, high fat ground beef 73% Lean, keep it natural, organic and healthy food. NEVER EVER FEED CATS DRY FOOD NO MATTER WHAT THEIR AGE!!!! It's dehydrating!! The cheapest canned cat food is better than the "best" dry food. Cats are carnivores and need MEAT, MEAT, MEAT!!! They don't have the enzyme like dogs do that digests carbs either...so only feed REAL MEAT, not food with plants in it!!
