Custom molded AFO process

An AFO is used to control the foot when stabilization and control is required. Although there are many pre-made and off the shelve options out there. In terms of fit and comfort, nothing can beat a custom molded AFO. A sheet of thermoplastic material such as polypropylene gets heated to 380F in an infrared oven. The material gets soft similar to cookie dough. Once heated, the material gets wrapped around a copy of the patients leg. This will guarantee the best possible fit. Once the material cold to room temperature. The AFO will be cut from the mold and trimmed to the desired trim and straps will be added.

This came out very nice. I do have one question, is there a way of adding something to the heel to help with stability?

Absolutely. In many cases we add a heel post. Proflex works great if you add it while the plastic is hot.
