As someone who dated Japanese, I think one of the worst things is the lack of PDA. Personally I'm not even a big fan of it cause I hate making people uncomfortable, but it's so discouraging when you can't even get a quick kiss or hug when nobody's looking. Even holding hands is too much sometimes, and it's hard to get out a sweet compliment or "I love you" out of them in public. They try to make up for it with nice gestures, but if you're somebody who needs constant love affirmation then it can get hard.

Aghhhh. I totally understand that Yoshiko. Many Japanese guys hate PDA just even a bit! It's sad when they refuse to hug in the public!

I am not a really boomer or something but I can understand from where Japanese boys don't like doing public stuff. From my experience (not from dating or something) (but from people complaining about them doing in public) is a big issue I guess. People dislike it for some reason.

not saying "I love you" is quite a common in Asian culture, and even more so for the Japanese. most East and South east Asian perception of romance is that you should show affection through duty, kindness, and action, not through body intimacy or lipservice. The word "I love you" is very precious therefore it should savored for the right moment. You see this a lot with the older asian generation but I can a sure to you that Asian youth nowaday kinda moved on from that, however Japanese youth still haven't catch up to this yet.

I've been going steady with my Japanese boyfriend for 19 months now. While I don't want to put him in a box, I will agree that he was shy at first (but not so shy as to hide his feelings! ☺️). He's also quite responsible and enjoyed taking the lead while we were in Japan together. 🇯🇵

As someone who's been there, yes it is. Thats why it shouldn't be a give and take situation, both party should give. Also, you should have a partner who's interesting and have a good chemistry with u. After 5 months of dating or so that initial attraction would slowly fade.

I dated a guy for a while here who was always working. At first, it was cool but slowly I began to realize that I was definitely the other woman in the relationship and he was DEFINITELY married. He lied a lot about things but did it with such an unsuspecting disposition. Dating in japan is interesting as shown in anime and in real life. There are so many places where one can enjoy their date in a peaceful and romantic way. Both girls and boys get butterflies when dating each other thinking they are so beautiful/handsome but due to Japanese women/men not being so open and thinking that the other person would negatively react to each other causes problems a lot when they settle down or think of marrying. Many times it does not work out because as they become more intimate they tend to negatively react to each other's thoughts, ideologies and secrets due to not settling those before marrying or having kids and then being depressed!

I've only dated western boys (and girl) and they didn't end well and because of this experience, I've been very reluctant to jump back into dating anyone. Do they not have student loans like in America in Japan?
Also, the car thing. I feel like the average American will go to college and need some loan assistance (5,000-10,000$ at least a semester. 2 semester in a year. 4 years if you always pass your classes.). Also, when you do get the job (that you just gained debt to be able to understand it) than you have to must have a reliable way to get to the workplace. A car is the best option since most places are rural and don't have public transportation.
Debt is too wired into America. :(

Is thinking of marriage and kids very early in a relationship really an advantage - especially when you are still in your 20s ? A lot of people barely know themselves at that age, should you really rush into big plans with a partner you have only known for a few months ? I'm probably thinking about this with too much of a "Westerner" mindset, but I would put this one in the "not an advantage/disadvantage, just different"-category.

Fly over state guys are more frugal and in less debt than a coastal guy by statistics. So she should say.......she's interested in coastal western guys.......which is fine if she does but the east and west coasts are NOT the whole of ......well at least this western country.

I dont understand the rush, but then again, im English. So i dont know anything about Japanese culture. Taiwan society seems to resonate with Japan, minus the 3 day thing.
