Can the power of anime help us learn more about our body? Surprisingly, yes! Are there any other shows that do the same?
    Also, please protect the platelets.

    Just a few corrections:
    1. Cancer cells do hide themselves by pretending to be healthy cells.
    2. The dendritic cell of the immune system is a completely different thing from the "arms" of a neuron cell of the nervous system, called dendrites.
    3. While the body in this anime does get a different ailment every episode and it makes it seem like it's bad health, every day a normal body kills thousands of cancer cells and even more bacteria and viruses. So those dozens of cancer cells or viruses is nothing.

There’s a lot of background info that goes unmentioned but is also pretty accurate. RBC’s jacket changing color depending on whether she’s transporting O2 or CO2, Pneumococcus hiding inside RBC’s box (RL Pneumococcus use RBCs to avoid detection by immune system), the hyper-aggressiveness of Neutrophils (IRL, neutrophils are so aggressive the body has to recycle them often so that they don’t attack itself), etc.

I wouldn't say that; children get cancer all the time, is it their fault that they have it then? There are more reasons for why someone would get it than just "you put the wrong things in your body, and now your body is fighting against you". I would hate for a child to hear that and think them being sick is their fault. That may be the idea Eastern cultures have of cancer there, but it isn't necessarily correct. Like for instance, someone having lung cancer but them not having smoked a day in their life, but maybe they have friends and family that smoke. Is that their fault then that they got sick in that case? Of course not.

+Trinity Archuleta To be more strictly accurate everyone gets cancer all the time estimates suggest that copying errors produce around 1,000 new cancer cells a day (That's almost 1 every minute). However of those almost all will be completely eliminated by the immune system but just occasionally one will be aggressive enough to manage to survive being eliminated completely and grow to become a small cluster of cancer cells kept in check by but not completely eliminated by the immune system because it proliferates about as fast as cells get killed. Of course the latter are in essence in an evolutionary arms race with the adaptive immune system and as such while they are under control and may well be kept in check for the rest of the hosts life just occasionally the cancer will win the evolutionary lottery before the host dies from some other cause.
Odds are that all of us have at least some of the latter abnormal cell clusters in our bodies just that the vast majority of us wont live long enough for them to evolve to be a real threat.

Scientists have uncovered how tumor cells in aggressive uterine cancer can switch disguises and spread so quickly to other parts of the body. In a study published in Neoplasia, researchers at the Washington University School of Medicine created a map showing which genes were “switched on and off in different parts of the tumor, providing a “signature” of these switches throughout the genome.
The researchers say their findings support the idea that cancer cells suffer from an “identity crisis” - they switch off certain genes specific to the tissue they came from - helping them fit in more easily in different tissues, spreading the cancer. Switching these genes back on, they say, could lead to effective treatments.” So yeah your wrong

One thing that I found super interesting that I saw someone else talking about was that, you see the little hair crescent sticking off of the main blood cell we follow? People have theorized this is because she is a "sickle" cell. These are mishapen/mutated red blood cells that are likely to cause blood clots due to their odd shapes and sharp edges. Which is here represented by her getting lost, and generally having a difficult time making a smooth trip through the body.

Bethanie Low It’s accurate with some artistic liberties. I mean like in the first episode, no white blood cells aren’t little men with knives that kill monsters, but they are one of the protectors of the cell, they just instead eat viruses. Likewise the virus of the first episode is somewhat atomically correct and what I enjoyed most is that while the capsule isn’t a net that the virus can shoot or use as a shield per day, it’s still s protective outer layer that deters the white blood cell from being able to eliminate it. And that’s just the very tip of the iceberg!! The show takes actual science and makes a fun little twist!!

It's amazing how there's a reason Red Blood Cell gets lost so much. You know her ahoge? It's shaped liked a sickle cell, a cell that flows poorly through blood streams.
In short, all cells are getting representation in this show.

The “dendrite” in the anime is a dendritic cells and it has nothing to do with the nervous system. It is a part of the immune system and its main function is presenting antigens to activate the adaptive immune system. It is not a neuron at all. Just looks a bit similar.

I think because cancer cells are irregular cells that didn't ask to be well... like that. Thats why the anime made them look sympathetic because they are hunted just for being born. In reality everybody do have cancer cells but its just not active

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, Cancer cells in kanji/ Chinese (癌) have a special explanation: if you do not be careful about what you consume or how much you consume, once it is stockpiled in the body, a disease will form. That's cancer. In other words, it is us that brought cancer to our own body. From the cell view, they want us to sympathise with Cancer because he doesn't even know how and why he exist there and was "fated" to be a disease and be like that. Morally saying that cancer is a form of karma to our health caring. We hate cancer but we brought cancer to ourselves. So who's to blame, them or us?

Perhaps 3:26 the factory workers are likely the small intestines’ assimilation team, so likely the stomach represents the raw materials incoming from the host body. I believe the kitchen is intended to be the enterocytes which are the cells that take in your food first after the stomach has broken it down. These cells are in the small intestine and the red blood cells take up the waste from those cells (nutrients) for processing in the liver before systemic distribution to other tissues. As my biochem teacher always yells "you do not own your enterocytes" because they are always changed out and almost act independently from the body, we just happen to benefit from them.

I’m fairly certain that the apartments are the actual representation of the cells (cause generally speaking the ‘normal’ cells in our bodies stay in place) while the people wearing the shirts saying ‘cell’ are likely just personifications of the apartments (they are to the apartments as the hetalia characters are to the countries/land masses they represent). The reason for using non-humans to represent the generic cells is because unlike the red blood cells etc the generic cells dont actually move about but since this is an anime and the main plots are driven by interpersonal interactions amongst all cells (and also saving the civilians trope) the creator had to find a way to allow the generic cells some sort of existence that didn’t amount to simply being buildings and so the use of personifications
    But that’s just my theory

The kitchen is probably the liver, they process all the food from the intestines into cell-manageable sizes

    • @enforcerridley158
      @enforcerridley158 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The liver is like a red district cafe. Hepatocytes are beauties other cells lust after and they serve them drinks of ADH and ALDH, which release and break down Acetaldehyde. Though too much Acetaldehyde in the Liver can lead to liver failure, causing the Hepatocytes to become sick. There are also the Kupffer cells, macrophages in sinusoids, and resembling topless exotic dancers in Cells at Work. The Kupffer cell's job in cells at work is to entertain the cells by dancing and wiggling their tits about as the Hepatocytes serve drinks. Kupffer cells also devour cells who have died so the resources are not wasted, which is actually their primary function.

Well the little tiny things of food represent nutrients. And all the apartments (as seen in several episodes such as, briefly in episode 1, the influenza episode, and mainly in the common cold episode) for the most part, house common cells. There, they work on division (creating copies of themselves (mainly seen in the common cold episode)).
