    Ron, I really enjoy watching your videos. You are the best. I wish you lived closer so we could be friends and share our model RR experiences and real RR experiences. You are a great technician and I really enjoy your comments and sense of humor. You put into words what I have thought especially when some small part falls on the floor minus the vulgar expletives.

I personally like how you have separate displays for your different scales. This weeks Classic Model is the beautiful Sophia Loren! Well planned, well executed, and well done Ron!! Tom

    Geez, you're like a brother from another mother, sometimes I feel like I'm watching myself! Last week my friend who is the widow of a model railroader, asked me if I could help her fix a blown out windowpane in the 3rd floor room that has his layout and an S scale locomotive display in close proximity. Of course- anything to save the trains. She had a few sheets of plexiglas on hand that he had bought long ago, well protected by its Kraft paper layer on both sides. After cutting the piece to size rather quickly and cursory pick at the paper; I said to myself and then her....."I think that was the easy part, the hardest part might be getting this paper off." Well, I asked her to fetch a hair dryer and it was close to 2 hours later that we finally got all the paper off.

    • @classicmodeltrains
      @classicmodeltrains  22 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      Oh WOW!! we were both suffering at the same time over protective paper. That stuff gets old and its a bugger to pull off.

    Interesting to see the MiniToys street car up on the shelf. You don't see too many of them. I have one from my Dad's collection that he had bought in the 50's. There were two, 102 Public Service and 103 Rapid Transit. I had managed to get three more for my collection. Each was sold as is and not running. Got them all running since nothing major was wrong with them. Great to see them run around a layout.

    Ron, I used to be a tin knocker back in the mid 80's to mid 90's. In our sheet metal shop, we had those same bending brakes for fabricating our own custom sized ductwork. So being around sheet metal I found that the best band-aid was a strip of duct tape. I did a number on my thumb one day, and duct tape stopped the bleeding immediately and lasts longer that a band aid.

    Sophia - hot mama in her day ! That protective plastic film is a royal PITA !! If we get a steel building package and it sits out in the weather, it doesn't come off, almost disintegrates, nothing helps ... our guys make close to $80/hr ... to peel plastic for days. That extra fold on the edge is called a "Hem". Strengthens and prevents oil canning. Good luck with the interview !!

    I knew that was Sophia Loren right away. Mmm Mmm Mm. The metal shelves look great! I was a one man hardwood flooring company for thirty years so I do things in wood. I probably would have done 1 X 4 pine and glued and screwed a 1 3/4" strip to the board. The resultant piece would look like an L and could be screwed into the wall. I'd finish it with an oil base poly so it would match the paneling. The idea is to get the shelfs to disappear to highlight the trains on said shelf. Yours look great. This is just another way to skin the feline. When you stood on your layout I smiled. I built mine using L Girder construction and I can stand on mine too. I see so many layouts on the interweb that have zero cross bracing and minimal framing. That can lead to difficulties trying to run trains on them. Don't even ask me about duck unders. Lol. Another great video. Thank you for your efforts!

      My Dad was a Custom Carpenter / homebuilder so he did everything in wood as well. I never seem to have the time to make such a beautiful shelve as you described. There has to be a true love for wood to make them kinda masterpieces :-)

    I get jealous sometimes of the quality of wood available across the country. Here in the mid-desert (Vegas) you'd have to dig through the entire pile to find a decent piece of wood without heavy crown, twists and bows.

      That 1 X 4 I had took me 25 sticks to find at the Home Depot. Real bad wood is around for sure

      So it's not just the southwest. I did a job in Missouri and ordered regular framing lumber. When they dropped it off I said wait a second. I didn't order premium. The driver looked at me and asked where I was from. I told him the deserts of California. He chuckled and said well that makes sense and told any board they had with even a single knot in it was considered less than premium grade. It blew my mind compared to the stuff we got in California.
      By the way good job on the shelves. The shelf wall looks great.

    Well, that was something different and interesting plus a hell of allot of work. The lighting is fine on my end, (said the wife), so just raise it. Looking forward to the remake of "A Stare is born" and you will be in TRAINing till Tuesday. My best advice is don't talk politics and very little religion if any so the same rules as a Gin Mill (bar). Good luck and we got your back (from a considerable distance), LOL. Jersey Bill

    I made a comment about your last classic model (Ann Margret) you were not familiar with, but here you go, Sophia Loren and Ann Margret were both in the movie Grumpier Old Men as "classic models"
