I’m bought the gen 1 a few weeks back for under $30. It blew my mind how good it is. I have been using an old Milwaukee 20v 3/8 impact. This 12 volt Hyper Tough is plenty for most jobs. It’s my go to and my get my Milwaukee if I need a bit more. I am looking at getting a Hyper Tough 1/2 drive 20v next for when I need serious torque.
Since I got the Gen 2 I’ve only been able to use it on some light engine bay work on a 97 Tahoe. I’m hoping to be able to use it soon on some brake caliper brackets. I used the gen 1 on caliper brackets and it worked great. Also really wanting to pick up a 6AH battery, because it’ll give it that much more edge. Great test! Makes me that much happier with my purchase
Thanks for posting this video. I think i will get the gen 2. It's a great deal, better charger and with a 4amp battery. That's way cheaper than the gen 1 when it came out. Would like to see a showdown with the angle grinders, cutting some nails or rebars...
Angle grinders are on the list. I have the brushed HT model and some comparable Bauer models. Should make for a good comparison with the new HT brushless.
Just some feedback, but it would be cool to have some type of spreadsheet or chart or something breaking down everything on one page. Just makes it easier for some of us to understand.
@ no idea had to use a big ass 1/2 ratchet to break them loose and then use the gun to zip them off quicker but this gun has been good for valve cover gasket batteries and skid plates bolts
I have the newer gen 2 model and it will zip my 80 ft lb lug nuts off with 4 ah battery no problem on my Chevy Cruze. Very impressed especially for the price of these impact wrenches.
FWIW, I bought one for light duty professional work, and it's OK, except that it does NOT have a variable trigger as advertised. Decent torque, feels good in the hand, takes a day of light use to drop a bar of battery, and recharges easily via USB C. Hopefully mine was a dud/incorrectly manufactured first run, because with a variable speed trigger, its a 5 star tool for light tasks. Without one, it's too much torque for many engine or transmission pan bolts with no way to turn it down.
@@Wizkid490 Good to hear it has a decent amount of torque, but sucks it has a trigger issue. Maybe try exchanging it? I keep thinking about it but it’s hard to justify $30 when the 12v model is only $10 more. I do like how small it is though…
@@Wizkid490 I happened to be in Walmart today so I checked and all 3 of the 4V ratchets they had are just on/off, no variable speed as the box states. I wonder if it's a bad batch or if they just got the specs wrong.
Ive been really considering this driver and one of their ratchets to throw in my truck box.... I do a lot of mobile work and get anxiety leaving my Milwaukee and snapon tools in my truck all the time
I tested the sawzall that was clearanced and was happy with it so i bought a grinder. Im going to pick up the impact wrench as well with the same battery so its cheap enough to keep in my truck in case things get stolen
That's funny because I got the clearance grinder with the bigger battery the sawzall had the smaller one. For the same reason and figured I can use the grinder as well
Weld the adaptor to the socket? i got large 3/8" drive sockets from Matco for changing oil filters, but they haven't broken when using them for axle nuts 😂
When I research this in the past, it looked like there were oil filter sockets that fit the bill. Like you, I figured they wouldn’t withstand an impact wrench. A little welding might just be what the doctor ordered. Thanks for the tips and comment.
@@zacksintheshop the "oil filter" sockets are just as tough as normal sockets, & Matco is lifetime warranty. They're just shorties, for tight spaces. Matco knows people will use them for what they fit, not just plastic filter caps, so they're built for whatever a 3/8 can toss. They also charge for that... I have used my 20 year old 3/8 air impact (also Matco) on them since I got them ~10 years ago.
What I think would make for interesting vid. Is does the anvil , hammer and cap swap make any difference? Or is the difference in the electronics? I have the old version of this tool. The less can go wrong. Going to connecting 2 4ah. I'm curious does more amps = more torque or will it let the smoke out?
@zacksintheshop no reason it can't be consistent with a bigger battery. I only have the long ratchet from hypertough... mostly use Makita, but a co-worker is considering the 3/8 impact. I told him about the gen 2. Thanks for the video btw.
The old model is discontinued anyway, so you're stuck with the gen 2 from now on! Regardless, theyre fantastic and cant be beaten for the price. Even harbor freight's 3/8 brushless bare tool only costs the same as this whole kit! I have both. Both get the job done, but id go for the HT if i had to do it again. THeyre almost the same size too, with the Bauer a hair longer.
It looks like the old version with the small battery and (bad) charger is like $28 which seems like a gread deal but it doesn't really work with that battery right so they have a bundle for like $52 or something with that plus a 4Ah battery included which if you have other tools that batter will work with its not bad
The older stuff has been on clearance for a while, so you can get some pretty good deals on it. I would buy the four amp power battery if I was getting that $28 kit though. When that wrench started out the kit cost $59.
@jacklo325 that’s a great deal. I bought several tools on clearance so far. Got two 20 volt angle grinders for $30 just to get the 4 AH battery. I got the 20 volt brushed circular saw for $26.
I did use it on the 6 AH battery video, but it def deserves its own video. Hard part is finding something to compare it with. I could try to get the Bosch 12 volt.
I had to get somebody when I got the Gen 2. Odd. All the stuff was open at my Walmart till recently. I went to one in Winston Salem where every power and hand tool were locked up.
When I built my rig, I bought that PSI gauge since it’s a hydraulic force gauge. I told another comment or I’ll try to make the conversion in the future to ft. Lbs.
@@zacksintheshop Thanks for the fast reply. I googled a calculator to try to convert it and got the impression a conversion was impossible. If I am wrong, is there any way that you can estimate the REAL torque and "nut busting" ft-lb of the 12 volt while using the 4Ah & the 6Ah Batts. and provide it in these comments of ur video? WMart says total torque using the 4Ah is 225 ft-lbs & doesn't even give a NB # on their website description page. HELP!
The new one sounds like it has less ipm despite more rpm. I wonder if it has more gear reduction or something. I'm gonna have to get one and take it apart.
Hyper Tough is in a tough spot. Ryobi's low end models compete with them directly with the expandability into their higher end line. Hyper Tough should have been compatible with Hart under one eco system.
It seems like the newer model has a bigger hammer in the impact mechanism. If they'd put out a battery with 21700 cells I bet this thing would really wake up Edit: I took mine apart and the new model most definitely has a bigger hammer
I have the gen 2 3/8 and I love it for the price. Only $55 it performs very well. Only complaint is that when the trigger is pulled in, and you slowly let off the trigger, the rpm doesn’t drop and immediately stops when you let go. My Milwaukee 1/2 inch you can pull the trigger all the way in and slow it down almost all the way before it stops. Would’ve been nice to have that slow stop feature. But for $55 I can’t complain much
I’ve been waiting for this… thanks and it is a great video!
Glad you liked it!
Great job. Really enjoying your videos about Hyper Tough. Thank you.
Appreciate the comment. Feel free to make suggestions for future videos.

Hyper tough needs to come out with a 20v 3/8 impact
It would be interesting to see how much power a 20 volt version would have.

It's called torque test channel... they got the BEANS!
I bought this and tried to do a front brake job with it but unfortunately the breakaway torque wasn’t enough to break the caliper bolts loose
Do you know what breakaway torque was needed?

Hell yeah, he read my circular saw comment
Yes, sir, that’s a matchup I was pretty curious about myself. That along with the reciprocating saw and angle grinder too.
Not a critique but the other weighs less because of the belt clip that may make the weight difference! great video just subbed!
Thanks for the tip!
That 3/8" Impact should be called Mighty Tough. It's impressive for what it is
I have both generations and really like them.
Please test the hyper tough extended reach 3/8 cordless ratchet.

Yes sir, I will put it on the list.
Other than the rpm, what is the difference in the 2 speed settings? Is speed 2 higher torque too? What is the use case for speed 1 vs 2?
#2 is higher torque as well as rpm.
