Marcus Miller - Bass/Bass Clarinet/Vocals Michael Stewart - Trumpet Kenny Garrett - Saxophone Morris Pleasure - Keyboards Bernard Wright - Keyboards Poogie Bell - Drums
So true! That was the first thing I thought of as well when I caught this video. Another great example is that version of Human Nature where he's playing into the mic on Mile's trumpet.
Still one of my favourite sax solos to this day. I remember my hs music teacher coming out of his office when I was playing this. He’s a sax player and was dying to know who it was. He had no idea it was Kenny G. The REAL Kenny G.
That Kenny Garrett solo was one of the most emotional, sincere, on point. Really no words to describe. Also notice how the band supports him like they put him alone in front of the goal with ball in hand
I'm a huge fan of Kenny Garrett. Heard many of his solos of all genres of jazz. This one is a perfect example of how less equals more sometimes. He could have played more notes on this solo. But why? He made his point loud and clear.
This is pure magic, start of an amazing incredible career,Marcus,Poogie,Kenny,Patches,Bernard "Nard' Wright, and also Morris Pleasure all playing here!!!
The original recording had the great South African guitarist/singer Jonathan Butler on acoustic guitar, and David Sanborn with a killer Sax solo/outro. Marcus Miller's band from the mid 90s is probably my favorite rendition of his, even though the young guys he's been working with in the last 10 years or like Alex Han (Sax), Brett Williams (keyboard/piano) have been making incredible music with him.
First time I heard of this great tune ! - via Looking at Marcus Millers back catalouge via Bernard Wright via Tom Browne ? One tea time in the local there was 12 guys in the bar - and they were all called Steve, Steven or Stephen ? That included the guy behind the bar - And as we were discussing this the local Police man came in another Steve ? - 13 altogether - I cannot remember who came in eventually to break the run ?
After Marcus Miller stunning intro, what instrument is the guy in sunglasses playing?, it looks like a short of very advanced electric recorder/trumpet or something similar, I don't know, but it's absolutely beautiful they way it sounds. By the way, Kenny Garret saxophone solo is outstanding. The whole ensemble and music is a true balsam for one's senses!
Who or what is playing the bass here? Marcus is playing melody - do we think it’s prerecorded bass!! Doubtful - so which keyboard player is playing bass?
The way Garrett builds solo's is magical!

Yes 100%!

It’s honestly one of my favourite musical moments. Everybody is so in sync with him. They just lock in so tight. It’s transcendental.

I saw the tears of a saxophone sinking...
They were dressed in blue and pink...
There was also a sunny rainbow...
Softly shining on... Me... 🌞💐🌍🌝❤️💓
RIP Bernard Wright
Great. Electric trumpet of Michael Patches Stewart is fantastic.

Jazz has become the forgotten art style.

Its called a EWI
@@emans6-v1l Thank you for the reply.
My my my... The ewi has come a long way.
Stevland is the actual first name of Stevie Wonder. Any linkage?
It's a tribute to him
Superbe morceau !!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember seeing/hearing a clip of Sean Garret from Montreux '99 and immediately thinking "WHO THE FUKK IS THAT!!?"
Who or what is playing the bass here? Marcus is playing melody - do we think it’s prerecorded bass!! Doubtful - so which keyboard player is playing bass?
the guy in the blue shirt at the end of the song is clearly not impressed...
What comment can I make.....Everything's been said
Who is playing the Ewi?
Jaycee37 Patches Stewart
There is only ONE thing I don't love about Kenny Garret, only one..... his pijama!
Hahaha definitely there's no blood in his veins.
