Marcus has the feel, groove and power in his playing un-like anyone else I've ever heard. I flat out "feel" him more than anyone else. For example, Victor Wooten is a technician extraodinnaire, and I have mad respect and appreciate him-I have and loved watching one of his bass workshop videos, but I have never been able to "feel" him like Marcus.
Sometimes you see a performer that puts off a vibe so intense that you feel every note like subtle electric shocks. When that person is playing 10 to 1 the eyes are closed and even though there's an audience he's on a different level. He sees the notes in his inner sight and he's jamming so intensely that he's actually in another dimension. It happens to every professional. Especially jazz performers. That realm, that magic musical cocoon is called The Zone. Nothing on this earth can compare to it.
Man, I feel exactly the same way! I also have love for Vic, but frankly I can count on one hand the number of bass players in the world rn that have Marcus’ feel and ability to phrase anywhere around the beat. His feel is what separates him from the bassists that try to cop his style, I’m glad someone else appreciates it!
I have to add that I did see Victor at Jazz Alley in Seattle a few years back; he was gigging with a trio (drummer & sax player-I'm forgetting their names at the moment), and the first thing he said was something like, "I need to be more like Marcus." He proceeded to get down with his bass, 'cause he that thing sounding thick all night like Marcus, and for the first time, I could really feel him. Woooo, he tore it up with the thickness!! Go Victor!! 🤣
Marcus Miller is my bass hero. The solo, ranging from 2:12-5:08 is spectacular. It is a thing of beauty to see someone with such mastery of their craft.
Love This Smokin And Love Poogie Bell One of the Most underrated Drummer ever This Cat Lays Down a Funk Pocket Deep Groove And If it called for a Swing or Shuffle My Man is always killin It he is Freakin Awesome. Bad to the Bone
pfiouuu, this song is so amazing!!! marcus and all his friends, playing for each other, are so talented. i really love this feeling between them. they like what they play. it s so pleasant to hear and to see this. carry on marcus!!!!
Jazz and Funk comes together amazingly. Go head, the whole band is incredible!!!!! Marcus played the shit out of that bass guitar!!!! They jammed for sure that night. I wish I could have been there.
I have to laugh when people go crazy for jazz. this guy is incredible, and I've been around for a minute. this song OMFG! EAT IT UP HONEY! it's an orgasmic rollercoaster ride all the way to the end! what he does at 4:14 in is my sweet spot! 4:57 is genius! this is just like "the beast" roller coaster at king's island in ohio! you can feel this song and it sticks with you!
2018... Great tune!! I have the original The Ozell Tapes CD version via Import from 2002. [Shout to Audio Imports in Maryland] Marcus played the Birchmere later that year and tour the roof off the building!! Nuff-Said!!
This song is AWESOME, its so good to see performers who feel the music, rather than the rubbish, plastic, overhyped people from the pop scene who are just there for image and dont even write their own music
I love being the bassist. I never have to fight with any instrument in my frequency range.... right here you have a trumpet, a sax and guitarist all trying to "shred" at once (near the 9;11 mark) and it become convoluted very fast....
funky jazz, jazzy funk, feel the beats and all that spunk...........
This video should be played ONCE a DAY at every school and office-work environment, just so people would understand what being alive is all about
TheGrooveChronicles and working together
Well said!!
Magical, jazz funk plus.
sounds like this knowledge is so deep, it should be illegal.
Poogie is a master of his craft, he and seem to vibe in a special way.
For me, he grooves the best on bass. His style really connects with me.
Yes😁
He’s really good at playing melodies
I jammed with him in Oss, The Netherlands, 5 Decembre 2009. how cool is that

If he is, it's the power of God flowing through him, while he's playing his solo. That was friggin' amazing

I think Marcus’ sound was at its best on those ‘EBS’ days, with his main axe of course. And RIP the great Dean Brown...
Muito muito muito bom!
Now this is RAW!
tunes/jams of this fervor should not be tainted by unqualified ensembles.
Where is this band too cool
Many years ago, the were around Europe, I saw twice that show!
Супер Маркус анд Бойз!!!!!!!!!
that's some serious scoop
Listen to Tower of Power, particularly records with Norbert Satchel. That's the "school" this type of sound comes from.
From the start there is a real groove going on but at 2:38 another level kicks in!
00:45 listen and look at guitar plz.
Daryl from the office really killin the sax here
Shout going to maurice pleasure on the key bass! 👊

That's not what music is about. It enriches you no matter what you know.
Eu acho que não só eu, mas todos os bateristas tem orgulho de tocar com um baixista, porq o entrosamento dos dois é perfeito ;]]
