This is a great tutorial and a fun and easy project. I have finished up two cowls and will be starting on my third. I’ll be giving them as gifts to my granddaughters. Thank you so much for sharing your skill!
I just finished making a cowl! I felt a little challenged to get back to knitting after 35 years of not touching knitting needles. But your video tutorial saved me. I truly enjoyed this project. Thank you so much, Ashley!
I am an experienced knitter and I have been in the cowl knitting mood for a month or so....what a great video!..and the math at the end is wonderful for all knitters at all stages...
Hi Ashley! Thank you for this tutorial. I'm horrible with math. LOL... So, thank you for showing us. I'm going to be casting on using a #4 weight yarn and will gift it to my mom. Again, thank you so much.
I used Loops and Threads Charisma (weight 5 yarn) and 8mm needles, casted on 61 stitches and it came out to 11” wide like this one. I love it! The yarn striped so beautifully for this size, and I’m going to put it to use tomorrow for a fishing trip 🙂 Thank you for the tutorial!
Happy New Year, Ashley, I used your cast-on converter and got the same 110 st counts, so I'm now confident I am using the table correctly. The cowl although simple is lovely and would go nicely with (hint, hint) legwarmers. Thank you for this new pattern and access to your converter table.
@AshleyLillisKnits Im halfway through! Spent the better half of the Mrs Harris goes to Paris movie knitting it. Though im afraid my calculations were a bit off so Im forced to delete some stiches so it doesnt just slide down me face!
Very nice work and a very good teacher! I’ve already knit this but at the end of the cowl after cast off the rib is not so flexible like at the beginning! Somebody told me that I should cast off only with purl stitch!!! Is that correct?
Namaste 🙏 I'm from India. I'm a beginner and I know to knit only with straight needles. Your project is very nice and I want to knit one. Will you please show me how to knit the same cowl with straight needles? Thank you
Im attempting my first knit in the round using this video. Using a very thin yarn... Having real trouble with the first round being tight on the length of thr needs. Using the shortest cable that came with it, so not sure what I'm doing wrong other than maby needing shorter cables?
Hi Ashley, Thank you so much for this tutorial, I would like to knit this cowl for my daughters, however I don’t have the same needle size or yarn. I have a US 10 (6mm) and a bulky #5. How many stitches should I cast on? Can you help me? Thank you 😊
I’m a bit confused by the ‘cast on an even number of stitches, then drop a stitch to connect the first round to the second round’. Doesn’t that make it an uneven number of stitches and change the ‘K1, P1’ pairing for the rib rows? Am I overthinking this? Will it work?
Cast on an even number of stitches, Add an extra stitch to drop to connect in the round…. Then you’ll have an even number of stitches. There are various ways to join in the round so the base pattern is casting on an even number of stitches. Hope that helps!
@@AshleyLillisKnitsHow on earth did I miss this! You say it quite clearly in the video around 5:45. Sigh. Apologies for missing it the first time around. I’ve made one and now making another. Such a wonderful easy project when one has the flu. Thank you! ❤
I followed your pattern but for some reason mine ended up 12 inches wide. I am new to knitting so I’m not surprised mine doesn’t look like yours, but I don’t understand why it’s as wide as it is unless it’s because maybe I stitch too loosely.
I followed this tutorial exactly and it worked out so well. Thank you for giving such clear instructions including how to change gauge. :)
I’m so glad someone is willing to teach us knitting ❤❤❤❤❤
My pleasure! Hope it helps! ❤️
I love you Ashley. Your videos and the way you explain everything is so good. May god bless you. Thank you so much.
Ashley, you are AWESOME! I am knitting! And in the round! My cowl is starting to match the video’s look. You rock!
This is perfect! My mom just asked me for a cowl and now I can make one for her 🥰
Thank you for showing me how to knit.
I just finished my cowl and I love it!! Thank you for teaching us how to make this!
Wow! What an excellent tutorial. I think I can do this. Lol Would love a matching beanie pattern/video as well. Thanks so much for this!! 🎉❤

Such a helpful and clear video ! Thank you for all your clear custom directions regarding gauge!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the end teaching how to adjust different yarn weights/needle size. This was the most straightforward method of explaining I’ve seen.
I'm sooooo excited to have found this video!!!
I'm going to do my next one with 3 rows at the beginning & end with purl sts. Thank you for a great neck warmer!
You are an amazing teacher 💕
I think I’ll knit my first cowl for myself this weekend! Thanks for the tutorial!
Yay! So happy to hear!

Perfect Video!!!
I'm glad you like it!! Thanks!
This was great. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video thanks❤
Hello, do you have any recommendations for the brand of circular needle? What are you using? Thank you
Thank you for this awesome tutorial. One question; can I knit sleeve of a jumper with this method?
Yes, absolutely.... should work!
Great demonstration! Do you always bind off the first stitch when switching the needle for the body of the cowl? Thanks.
I don't bind off a stitch -- sorry if it looked like I did!
Thank you
Can this also be done on straight needles? Thank you
Unfortunately, you can't knit in the round on straight needles but you could knit it flat and seam it together!
@AshleyLillisKnits thank you so much. I only have straight needles 😂
Im attempting my first knit in the round using this video. Using a very thin yarn... Having real trouble with the first round being tight on the length of thr needs. Using the shortest cable that came with it, so not sure what I'm doing wrong other than maby needing shorter cables?
16” is usually the shortest and should definitely work with the cowl if you cast on enough stitches. Did you adjust your stitch count for your gauge?
Please what is the software video you use for this tutorial?
For a 6 year old child what size would anyone recommend ? I’m using Alpaca and size 3 needles
Are you supposed to slip stitch at the first of each round? It doesn’t say that in the pattern but looks like you are in the video. Thanks!
@@hannahsuerth5741 nope, you knit the first stitch of each round!
Hi, how much yarn did you end up using for this? I’m trying to figure out how much yarn I need to buy
hi! Can I use 12 mm us 17 20inch needles? its the closest I have... do you think that would still work..
You can! The cowl will be bigger though if you follow the pattern exactly as written!
I know to knit on 2 needles. Please let me know stitches to cast on
