Little songs that everyone on the planet gets closer to truthfulness by hearing. A pure artist. The Moderns Runaway also changes the atmospheric conditions on this planet when turned up loud.
I'm amazed to see this guitar here. It seems to be the same classical I have. Same size, colour and detailing. I'm only noticing it on a second viewing. I had to keep checking, but it all matched, down to the the yellow line of decoration on the headstock and the pattern around the hole. At first I was only looking at Richman's because I was jealous of it and then I realised in disbelief that I sort of maybe didn't need to be. The label inside mine says it's an Antoria Classic. I got it a couple of years ago in a charity shop in Lewisham, London for £40. I wondered if I was making a mistake as the action was high (the strings were too far off the neck) and there was no truss rod that I could see to adjust it, but I loved its sound and the way it looked. I took it into my local guitar place to see what they could do and they said it would cost £100 to fix and it wasn't worth it because it was a low-quality guitar. It's validating to find that this 'low-quality' guitar I liked was good enough for Jonathan Richman. The weird thing is, just today, before I made this discovery, I considered getting rid of the thing along with some other stuff I was taking to charity, but when I played it again, I still liked it too much. Not sure if this sounds believable, but it's true: there was a carpenter where I live rehanging a door and putting up some shelves. I asked him if he knew anything about guitar woodwork and he said no, but he had a neighbour who did: an old guy who fixes them in a shed in his garden and he'd give me his number. It's like it's fate, all this coming together at once, but we'll see. I'll report back on whether the guitar fixer fixes my guitar.
Sounds Unlimited was a music show hosted by Donnie Sutherland which screened every Saturday morning from 9 to 12. With so much time to fill all sorts of visiting artists appeared such as the eccentric Jonathan. Very rare to see a live musical performance on the show though.
The reaction by Cale and this host say it all. You can't help but smile when you hear Jonathan Richman.
Whenever I get into an argument with someone. I just picture Jonathan Richman walking in and diffusing the entire situation.
I met him after a show and I was so psyched I just started laughing and he laughed with me and then we parted ways. It’s a good memory
One of my favourite songs with Jonathan!

This song is essentially one of my school presentations but with a guitar.

John Cale doesn't know what to make of it!
Are you kidding? he produced the album.
Gotta think that he took the inspiration from Lou Reed and turned the darkness into light. Cale might have sensed that...
