Just want to say how grateful I am. I watched this video 7xs before attempting. Just finished my first strap. I was scared it wouldn't work on my domestic even though you said it would. But It came out great! Thanks for the vidoe
These are AWESOME! I made 4 of these handles today for two Apothecary handbags I am making. LOVE,LOVE,LOVE THEM! Can’t imagine doing these on a domestic though….I have a JUKI 1541S and they are a breeze with that. This is a great tutorial and I thank you!
Yay! Thank you! I'm so glad you like them! 🥰I've been making them for years on my Husqvarna Emerald 118, and then later on my Janome Horizon 7700 before I got my Juki so I promise it's possible on domestics, one just goes slow and steady and make sure to have the right the right needle and settings 😊
Beautiful work! I got one of those seam jumpers (that gray tool) with my sewing machine, had no idea what it was for, so thank you so much for using it :)
Lol this is so interesting. I actually think I have vinyl in my storage room. I will definitely try this because the other way with fabric, interfacing and rope is very time consuming. Thank you for this tutorial 🥰!
Hello! I love your tutorial on the bag handles. I didn’t catch the type of vinyl. Could you please share what sort of vinyl you use? Thank you so much!! ❤
Yay! So glad you found it helpful! I keep my fingers crossed that it works well for you. Slow and steady wins the race with these =) If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
I'm so glad you liked it! That is actually the first Teflon foot I bought with my machine from nu Juki retailer, their standard Teflon foot for their industrial machines. It's available in many places online and your retailer should easily be able to order it for you if they don't have it at home. 😊
I've sewn them on everything from my Husqvarna Viking Emarald 118 with a dual feed foot to my Juki TL-2200QVP MINI. Just don't choose the thickest marine vinyl if you're using your domestic, go for a thinner version to start. And try and see if you machine prefers a dual feed foot, teflon or a roller foot. And if you have any questions/issues, just drop me a line and ask =) I have a good blog post here about dealing with skipped stitches and tension issues: blogg.pinkponydesign.com/2020/06/skipped-stitches-and-tension-issues-help.html
That’s what Im looking for!! Thank you very much. During this carantina time I try to sew bags for my wife. Your videos help me a lot. Thank you very much and have a nice day
I'm so glad you liked it! =D I would recommend that you test what looks good with your machine and vinyl, just be careful to not make them too short, so longer than 3 is my general recommendation. This since you'll be sewing the vinyl multiple times so you don't perforate it too much and make it weak.
Oh it's a teflon presser foot, I highly recommend getting a few different ones if you work with vinyl/leatherette a lot, they make sewing those sticky fabrics a breeze!
I'm so sorry for my slow reply, I'm finding a bunch of comments I'd not received notifications about through TH-cam studio. Yes, just increase the width, but keep in mind that the larger it is, the less of a roll and flatter it will be =)
Cheri L714 Yay! So glad you like it! Thank you! It's a Juki TL-2200QVP mini, I love her sooo much! It's a fantastic little machine! I wrote a review about her a little while back here: blogg.pinkponydesign.com/2019/03/all-about-my-sewing-machine-juki-tl.html
From a lot of places, but I buy much of my vinyl from borlangesycentrum.se/ but if you're outside of Europe that's no help. But Emmaline Bags have great quality vinyl if you're in Canada or US: emmalinebags.com/collections/fabric-interfacing/Other-Substrates_Faux-Leather
I live in Portugal so depending on which part of the world you're from I don't know if my tips will be very helpful? But I buy a lot from my parents store in Sweden: borlangesycentrum.se/, I shop some from Etsy.com and various local shops when I travel. The thing to think about is that the vinyl isn't too heavy for your machine, I rather interface a thinnish vinyl to get the feel and stability I'm after, than try to work with a super heavy one. Not much advice I know, but it's so difficult to try to explain in text like this. I'm sorry!
Hi, Thank you, I'm so glad you liked it! It's a vinyl fabric, they come in may colors, kinds and thicknesses, make sure you don't choose a too thick vinyl for your handles, as there are many layers.
Aww, thank you, I'm so glad you found it helpful! The stitch length depends on which machine I'm using, but the important thing here is to ensure it's not too short as that will perforate the fabric unnecessarily and weaken it, as we will sew over the same spot twice when making these (also a reason why it's important to not use a leather needle). When I sew on my domestic Husqvarna Opal I use a long stitch length like 5, because it finds it a little difficult to feed all those vinyl layers and the stitches tend to come out shorter than the actual length. But on my Juki semi industrial straight stitch, I use 3.5-4 usually. Just try on a scrap that you fold like the final handles and see what length your machine needs for a mice looking, not too tight stitch =) I use Gütermann Sew All thread for pretty much everything (if I want it more defined I usually just double up for the top thread and use two spools) as that's what I can get a hold of easily here and I love their quality and color range. I know the stitches will hold and I know the color will hold too. I hope this helps!
@@PinkPonyDesign oh thank you...it helps a lot! I tried your tutorial and my thread kept coming out halfway n breaking. The thread i practiced with tho is from Amazon, one of those “25 spools for ten dollars” lol. I was impressed tho so i’m going to Joann’s fabric store tomorrow for some sturdy/good thread. I cant wait to try it again with better thread. Thank you for replying so promptly. Looking forward to watching more of your tutorials!
@@GrammaPatriot Ah yes, you really want good quality, non cotton thread for sewing bags. It's awful to spend a bunch of time and fabric on a pretty bag - only to have the seams give out after a few months! Just don't buy too heavy/extra strong thread as that can be difficult to work with for these particular handles, due to the double lines of sewing. Best of luck!
I personally love and use Bohin double sided sewing tape atm. but any good quality sewing tape will work fine. Just don't use something like Pryms "wash away quilting tape", as it's too weak to hold the vinyl.
