Just got a new one. I worked at PRS when he first started before the company was launched. Played in his band, but went off to college and family... I finally got one of the Custom 24s. Absolute trophy piece. Great review!

@BYRRD Kinda cool I suppose, because I learned a lot, had a ton of fun, romanced my STILL wife, and made some great friends. Paul even did sound for our band before I started working for him. The only bummer is that I didn't take him up on his offer back then to help me build my own bass. Dangit! Oh well, I'm doing alright so I bought a couple of guitars. Good for him and the few friends that are still working there. They do amazing things.

It's funny to me, that most people associate PRS with John Mayer nowadays.
Back in the late 90's/early 00's, PRS guitars were mostly associated with Alt-Rock, Nu-Metal and Prog.
You would turn on MTV ( remember when MTV was an actual music channel?) and watch bands like Incubus, Linkin Park or 3 Doors Down rocking PRS Custom models, usually plugged into a Mesa Boogie.
That was pretty much the ''trendy'' setup for that era.
But also many Prog guys like Jim Matheos ( Fates Warning), Steven Wilson ( Porcupine Tree) and of course Opeth, are still using PRS Custom 24/22 models to this day, a testament to the versatility of these guitars.

Got a custom 24 10top 30th anniversary two month ago for a steal price. I just can't put it down. As you Said everything is top quality. Top notch Qc, playability, looking, sound, parts, pickups, construction. It's a Dreams of a guitar. Perfectly balanced, comfortable, rings like a bell. Everytime I play it I'm blown away by the richess and complexity of the sound, the insane capability to produce harmonics all over the neck and along every string. I couldn't be more satisfied.

This is a nice review. Just my 2 cents but I bought my first 24 in 1989 and a second sunburst in 1992. The 2020 and up core models are (IMO) the best PRS has ever made in my opinion- completely perfected Everything on the new Core models have been steadily improved- Pickups, finish, tuning stability. The bird inlays are very precise, clean, and look better than ever. And they play themselves. Impeccable setup, top drawer materials, quality throughout ready to go out of the case. Getting that last 10 percent quality does have a cost associated to it but it's money well spent.

The most important thing people need to understand about a PRS guitar is it has no opinion or preconceptions about how you are gonna play it.
It will sound good and play easily and it won't have any bias any which way.
Some people embrace that as being it's a wiling partner in making the music I want to make and it'll never fight me and will always make my musical effort easy and be a co-operative partner in my music making.
      Other people call them soulless.
They are looking to the instrument to direct them toward some musical secret or something.
A PRS will not do that for you.
If you want a guitar that railroads you into a particular style this is not the guitar for you.
      Luv and Peace.

    • @ianedmonds9191
      @ianedmonds9191 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

They really are the best made and best playing and sounding guitars I've experienced and you can play whatever on them and it's easy to make it sound great.
They also look inspiring so you're always tempted to pick them up.
I moved from a 91 Ibanez RG570 to the 01 PRS Custom 24 and I still play both but I play the PRS more and I can get better tones and better playing from that guitar now.
It took a few months to adjust to the change in neck.
      Worth it.
      Luv and Peace.

I need help please, I have a 2003 US made Custom 22 and it is just phenomenal that it made me start eyeballing some Custom 24s and here is the thing, I have tried few of the SE versions of the custom 24 and the more I go on higher frets the less resonance I get and there is way less sustain in the highest frets as well. Did anybody experience the same problem with the US made ones ?? How confortable is the neck on the highest frets for somebody with thick fingers please ?? I never had the chance to try a US made custom 24. I am lefty and lefties are rare. Thank you!

    I'm seriously looking for a McCarty SE or S2 Semi-hollowbody (coil-split a plus), and/or Epiphone SG. Probably can't afford Core-level.

    • @brandonbryson3317

Epiphone are definitely not better built than gibsons. I’ve owned MANY of both, and while you can get some great epiphones, they rarely get even close to a stellar Gibson. Sure, there are some bad Gibsons, but I truly think that’s over blown. I’ve owned many, and never had a lemon. I would often pick them over my USA PRS, as they would just sound better and be more inspiring to play in many cases.

@@brandonbryson3317totally agree. My experience of Gibson has been pretty much the same as you describe, even in the dark days of the end of the Henry J ownership era, let alone now under the new ownership and management where it’s pretty much universally accepted that QC has improved.

With Epiphone I’d say it’s close enough although I may switch the pots because it seems like I barely turn the knobs but it sounds like I went from 10 to 2. Probably will swap pups while I’m at it, but it’ll still be cheaper than a Gibson.

Im not sure how it is with PRS core, but with SE's i feel like they're overrated. Sure they play great, until you take some other guitar in a similar price range, and then it starts feeling..weird. Like it compromised in some ways. Like it's good, but not as good as other common brands. The one thing i hate the most about PRS, is that if you don't have a core, they make you feel like you're poor by having such different looking guitars. They could make them look the same, but they don't, so that you would want a core. That's the main reason i will never buy a PRS ever again

WTF are you babbling about the SE not '' looking the same as the Core models''?!
Apart from the violin carve being more shallow, which most people won't even notice and having a maple veneer instead of a full-blown maple top, which again most people won't notice right away, everything else is pretty similar.
The only negative thing, the SE's have, are the cheaper whammy bar bridge & nut, which are inferior to the US Made version. If you upgrade them ( a Graphtech TUSQ nut is very cheap & easy to install and I would recommend a 2-point trem system like a GOTOH 510 or Hipshot Contour), the SE's are great guitars.
Hell, the guys from Opeth use updraded SE's as backups for their USA PRS models, when they're on tour!
