In this video I disassemble a Canon PowerShot SX60 HS Camera, clean the telescoping lens and then reassemble it. If your lens is stuck, only do this as a last resort as it will void your warranty. DISCLAIMER: I am not a camera repairman, I only wanted to fix my own camera. I am not responsible if you damage your camera or are unable to reassemble it. This video is for reference purposes only. Proceed at your own risk! Please Like & Subscribe if it was helpful. Thank you

Great video! Thank you so much! I ended up replacing the seized motor and the camera works. For those who ask regarding the motor, I could not turn my new motor from the gear while it was inside the gear assembly, but when I removed the gear from the old one it was hard to turn the motor, which should turn freely.

Thank you Jay! You are a great fellow. I watched your video as a manual for disassembling the SX-50. It really helped me
in replacing the lens. Continue in the same direction, you are doing very well this work.

Well done, you seems like a Canon technician to me (c: Thank you for showing what I have inside my sx60. I wonder if you are amaze of how well done are this things, and how much study in a lot of areas are needed to create and put all of this together. I think they deserve all the money they ask for it, well at least the money asked a few month after they are introduced to the market.
    Keep doing this good job.

An amazing video! It gives me confidence to disassemble our family's old trusty SX60 to deal with the jammed lens symptoms you show at the start of the video.

Great video. I thought I had the same problem. I got as far as taking the shield off where it turns out, strangely enough, the ribbon cable and connector (shown around 12:28) were badly corroded for some reason. Cleaned them up with contact cleaner dabbed quite gently but several pins are missing from the cable.
No idea why just that one spot was affected, no other damage or sign of moisture could be found.
Thanks again for the video at least i was able to figure it out without spending a pile to fix it
Got it from a box lot at a surplus auction so not a big loss but still disappointing.

I stripped my SX60 down after it began showing ‘Lens error’. The procedure went well and was enjoyable for itself but the problem didn’t go away. If you are still checking in on this, Jay: Should it be possible to rotate the two gears that are behind the lens barrel? I noticed that you hit them with compressed air but didn’t rotate them to clean all around. I tried to turn them with my finger but they wouldn’t budge which made me wonder if the there was something wrong there, e.g., a messed up motor.

You can also use a smaller sized resistor to drain the capacitor, it will take longer, and use the largest diameter resistor you have on hand. The start capacitor for my HVAC condenser unit has a small resistor between the leads so that it drains that capacitor slowly.

Hello, thank you very much for your contribution. all very detailed and practical. Personally, I followed your instructions to the letter and managed to remove the error. However, I want to share with you a problem that I cannot solve, it is with the same camera. Although it works fine, that noise tells me that there is something wrong with the motors. Do you have any instructions to disassemble the motors and examine the pinions? I am attaching a video link so you can see what noise I mean. Thank you for your time. ///

Jay - I've been trying to find out how to replace the built-in battery that drives the date and clock on the Canon SX60HS. I didn't see that watch battery in your video - so I'm now wondering if the time and date is somehow driven by the flash capacitor?

Pretty nice video, thanks for sharing. Do you have any idea how repair the micro (or nano) USM (min 18:00) because in my camera it was very tight

Thanks very useful, though it did not fix my problem which is a loud clicking sound when zooming, refusal to zoom beyond 500mm and then the lens error message. I was shocked to see that the lens has large cracks in it. Surely this is not normal? I would like to show you a picture of the lens cracks

i had this problem and it went away, probably dirt, also sometimes lens error problems go away if you disconnect the battery for enough time, its like a computer reset.

A canon sx50hs tem algum tipo de fusível para nao deixar queimar a placa? Fui tentar fazer uma gambiarra para ligar minha câmera direto na energia e ela nao funciona mais, sera que queimou de vez?

Great video!, in my case, my so beloved SX60 HS was floating in its bag for about 20min on the surface of a beautiful mountain lake, until wind pushed it to the shore, it accidentally fell when trying to find a safe spot to sit. It was pouring crystal clear mountain water when picked up, was something more like fishing my camera out of the lake... yeah, it was that bad. At the moment, it is still buried in rice. Since it wasn't salty water, I keep hope. Will try to disassembly it in 5 days or so, clean with alcohol, re-assemble and hope it works. If it works, I have no idea of what to do if the lens is clogged/condensed. Wish me luck., and if anyone has additional tips, please share Thanks for the video

Any idea where the small lens that fell out of the lens assembly goes for a sx40HS camera ? , took it apart because of the lens error and out of focus screen.

BTW - do you have the service manual for this camera? I haven't been able to find a way to source it.

I'm not sure that there is a removable battery. I think these use a capacitor to keep time/date. The capacitor holds a charge for about three weeks if the main battery is out. The capacitor is re-charged from the main battery. If the capacitor becomes completely depleted, it takes about four hours to re-charge it. If it isn't charging, plug in the USB cable (open the accessory cover on the side) and try to charge it that way.
