when using malted barley do I need sugar to augment the process or will the yeast take care of that? Im ready to make some single malt scotch and could use all the help I can muster!! Thanks mate!!
On 2nd run sugar wash I get 160 proof clean spirit. Using only sugar, yeast and nutrient. No need for clearing agents and such. Filtered with a cheap brita water pitcher. It breaks down to only $2 a bottle of 160 proof spirit. Buy your sugar in bulk and use brewer's yeast and you can make a wash for a fraction of store bought booze. I also use a simple pot still and it works great.
Hi i drink the water from my tap too. Obviolusly using spring water would be better however i am happy with my results. Also distilling removes impuritys and i carbon filter afterwards too.
Being that once the wash is distilled and you have extracted the alcohol, can one then "reuse the wash" by adding new sugars, new yeast etc? Like reusing corn etc. for a 2nd run? Thanks!
@harpeet hi no not used brown sugar myself. I aim for a clean tasting spirit and brown sugar may leave a flavour behind. Some people use molasses and grains though for whiskers etc.
Hi mate 2 things I just brought the air still whatch your video where do you get your cleaning agent from and my wash is been going 4 days now and I got a eggy smell from it is this ok cheers
Shoe polish seriously? i appreciate your comment and im always willing to try new things but do you really think id drink shoe polish? I make this for myself and im not going to drink any old crap. Ive just upgraded to a turbo 500 reflux still and i still use the triple distilled yeast and i get great results. i make the gold spiced rum for my uncle and he prefers it to morgans spiced.
Hi it wouldn't hurt t add a small amount of sugar to kick start the process. I would use dextrose to avoid any of flavours seeing as you are using malt. I have only ever done sugar washes so im no expert. You could lso make a yeas starter using dried mlt extract.
Nothing wrong with my tap water mate. I always end up with a great tasting product. Turbo carbon in the wash is to remove impurities from fermentation. Distillation removes impurities I then carbon filter. If you still have impurities in your water after that then god himself couldn't purify it. Cheers.
You use tap water? Interesting. I've always read you need distilled water or even natural spring water. Tap water in the US has far too high levels of chlorine in it.
Thanks for your response on "rerunning the wash." I had to comment on your great videos, however the background music "overrides" your speaking. :( Maybe a bit way too loud. Thanks.
+sargieboy31 You can't "distill" yeast..! This turbo shit won't get you good spirits...even if you distill it triple... Guess what they mean when they state "triple distilled"...
I don't mean to be negative as you seem like a real nice person, but again turbo yeasts are terrible and I can do 10 gallons of wash in 7 days with one packet of Lalvin Champagne yeast
Hi thanks bud. Good to hear from you again.

@corey I'm not sure I'm in the uk and my local home brew shop imports it from New Zealand. Can you get vodka star yeast in the us?

Hi paul i bought my star san from the home brew shop heres the link www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Five_Star_Chemicals.html
As for the eggy smell not sure it does have a potent smell to it so stick with it and distill a batch and dilute it and have a taste.
Yes I'm already a member of still smart forums its a great site.
I use stars an no rinse sanitiser.
I always use boiled water from the kettle and wait for it to go to the right temperature rather than tap water

Cool no frills strait to the point alcohol. Cheers GYBREW
Hi spud you get around 10 70 cl bottles from a wash @ 40%.
The best yeast to use is malted corn. Tastes way better and no hangover
I have heard of people rerunning the wash i havee not done it myself.
Hi mate yes im a member of stillsmart forums. :)
Turn the lights on so we can see what you're doing.

are u crasy,, turbo yest takes 24-48hour..
Normal yest takes 7days
Hi actually the triple distilled yeast I use takes 7 days. I don't use the fast ones as they produce off flavours.

if you are going to use turbo yeasts you might as well drin shoe polish....
Sorry but the stuff is terrible. At the very least use champagne yeast.
Mediocre video, made worse with intrusive music.
Pathetic comment, made worse with retarded observation !!!
