    Being a kid from the late 60s early 70s I remember how big of a deal our first color tv was. Told everyone I could when it was coming. Also vowed to never watch black and white anything ever again. Maybe a Godzilla or two. Now being older and knowing how bad some stuff is ,now I started reverting back to catch the old stuff I remember and missed. You only had two chances back then September and during the summer when outside activities kept you from the TV. Shows never to be played again. Catching up with classics is great and my main driving force is seeing the bran new old cars on the show. As you I love seeing them in mint condition with the slightly older in the background. It is also my way of dating movies and shows fairly accurately by the age of the cars. My own personal game but I love it.
    Will never see those old rides in there natural environment again.

    Another incredible piece of Machinery from Chrysler! That backseat with its own center console is crazy cool! The design and all the Chrome back in those days definitely made the time era! I have a 1950 Plymouth Series 6 four door Deluxe. It's the bottom of the barrel basic model and it still has tons of chrome. I really miss the front bench seats in cars also.

    Donald, would you please stop smiling! It’s distracting! Ha ha ha. Your enthusiasm for the 300G made this video. That was when cars were works of art. My folks had a Dodge Lancer in the early 60s. Loved that push button gear shifter. Thanks a million for the video. Hope you get your wish soon to buy one of those gems.

    What more can be said of the design genius of Virgil Exner combined with Chrysler muscle..perfection. Speaking of old TV shows and their cars "Highway Patrol" is a must see, Brodrick Crawford tossing around a 1956 Buick is hilarious.

    I was in Newport last week, and I did go look in the front window of the Audrain Museum and saw some of the cars in the Land Yachts exhibit, including this one, but, unfortunately, I didn't have time to go in and see the rest of the collection, much to my regret. But, I did go into the La Forge Casino restaurant, just down the block, and had a fantastic lunch. This is the restaurant that is seen at the beginning of each episode of Audrain Mansions and Motorcars, and where Donald Osborne and Jay Leno end up eating. What a a fabulous restaurant, I recommend it highly.

    Nice car, nice title, very non-PC. Many such cars from this era have some style and following. I have a 67 Mercury Cyclone which was billed as a "Man's car" in the brochure. A dealer's selling point back in the day. Maybe not so much today; cuz now, "who knows who is what", eh? :D

    Wonderful car, wonderful video. I, too, am a lifelong fan of Virgil Exner's designs. While the 300 letter cars fit the category of land yacht by virtue of their sheer size and weight, I would suggest that the "G" also qualifies as an American GT. It's loaded with all the luxury and comfort amenities of a Cadillac or Lincoln, but neither of those two cars could approach the speed and handling of this mighty MoPar.

    Interesting, Richard Petty autographed this car but I think Petty had a '60 F Pont a Mousson (four speed), not a G. He showed me his collection in January of 2005. I am pretty sure this is the old Bradley Teets car that he restored in c2003. Brad's car was considered the gold standard of G restorations when finished.
    The factory 1961 three speed manual cars are known as the 'Code 281" cars. Only four are known (several fakes exist). A 5th burned in a big fire about four years ago in (I think) Sacramento, CA. Exceptionally rare and finding one today would be nearly impossible. One is owned by a 300 Club member and not for sale at any price, One (that I owned and restored) is now in the middle east. Not sure where the other two known cars are. The club has estimated between nine and fifteen were built.

    I never knew that about the parking gear law. Strikes me as odd that they had to give up the pushbutton automatic but could, presumably, keep the manual gearbox which also wouldn't have had a parking gear.
    Still, this is such a fine car that I can't imagine loosing the pushbuttons on later ones made driving them any less of an experience.

    • @johndavey72
      @johndavey72 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Josh . You can stick a manual in gear but once the engine is off in an auto it won't hold the car . .....still bizarre though ! Head of Ford probably passed that through the law courts ! 😂😂😂😂

    • @joshbrailsford
      @joshbrailsford 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johndavey72 so could you not turn these Chrysler's engines off with the automatic in Drive or Reverse, only in Neutral? Maybe I misunderstand the operation of torque converter automatics! - I've never owned a car with an auto transmission. Would turning the engine off and leaving it in Reverse not hold the car, as it would with a manual transmission?
