With Cape Cross, who was primarily a miler, on his top side, I know his pedigree might've suggested that 12f was about as far as Sea The Stars would've wanted. But because he was always such a calm and relaxed horse before and even during his races, I've always believed he would've had a very legit chance of staying the St Leger distance and winning the English Triple Crown if John Oxx had given him the chance to go to Doncaster instead of sending him to Leopardstown to run in the Irish Champion Stakes at 10f. I'm pretty certain he had the class it would've taken to have run down the Godolphin pair of Mastery & Kite Wood at Doncaster in that renewal of the Ladbrokes St Leger, IMO.
Watch the 1986 Arc to witness a truly great racehorse with 8 group 1 winners together at the furlong pole then Dancing Brave flew past them to win going away. Exceptional performance and doubt there was a better field put together in a race of that kind.

@laggardz Winning the 2000, Derby and Arc surely constitutes some kind of 'arrival'? Breeding is much less of a factor when it comes to the jumpers and NH races aren't age-restricted. The winner of an English classic can't go on and win them again the following year. What's done is done and with few exceptions (the Arc, KGV1 & QE, etc.) can't be repeated.
