It was a dump, but it was OUR dump! Had a lot of fun watching games in that stadium with my friends. Especially with my buddy who was a big Dolphins fan. We saw a bunch of those games in the freezing cold(many times it was the last game of the season)sitting on those awful aluminum benches!!

People can say what they want but those of us who yearned for the Pats to finally have their own stadium welcomed Schaefer Stadium with open arms (and fresh Schaefer drafts...) when it opened during the summer of 1971. Sure, it didn't age well and yes, the Sullivans were only too happy to increase revenues by overserving zealous fans. So be it. There were MANY awesome Patriots games (AND concerts) played there for 30 years. The Patriots came of age there - until Robert Kraft came along and made things 10X better. But please, enough with the whining about Schaefer Stadium. It definitely served its purpose.

I went to Gillette shortly after it was built. Never went to Foxboro stadium but I heard it was pretty crappy

Funny, never went to Gillette except for covid shot a year ago. Watched them build the first one, Shaffer Stadium, as a 12 year old kid!! - Rick Ferencik

It was both the best and the worst stadium in the NFL: perfect sightlines, but not comfortable.
