Sunday for me after church.
My grandparents did cook like this everyday. Sunday was just the time for 3 meats instead of one. But we had fatback with almost every meal. Chicken daily. Fish on Fridays and like I said Sunday was ham chicken stewed beef or dumplin's fatback and a bunch of side dishes. Mac and Cheese is a side dish. I'm a Gen Xer.

Let me explain this to everyone who is not Black or doesn’t have southern roots... Black Eyed Peas & Collard Greens are traditionally cooked for dinner on New Years Day with your protein of choice (I prefer pork chops). The black eyed peas represent change and collard greens represent paper money/dollars. The meal is to represent financial prosperity mostly in era after slavery.

My mother is 94 and from Mississippi and black eyed peas and collards were on her schedule of things to cook and she still does to this day regardless of the season.
