Saw Rutan land his VariViggen at Corona airport in the early 1970s. The right(?) main gear failed to extend, so on landing Rutan held the wing up as long as he could. Damage was not too bad. Always thought this craft was more of a prelude for Rutan, not a particularly well-performing design.

Wow..wow...I love the design. Too bad the Viggen was a challenge to build. Too bad there is not a fully composite version of this plane.
