  • "Pole Position" is a pioneering racing game released by Namco in 1982 for the Atari 2600 and arcade machines. In this ATARI computer port players assume the role of a Formula One driver competing in a series of Grand Prix races. The objective is to complete each race within the allotted time while avoiding collisions with other cars and obstacles on the track. Players navigate tight corners, accelerate on straightaways, and strategically overtake opponents to secure pole position. With its groundbreaking pseudo-3D graphics and realistic driving mechanics for its time, "Pole Position" revolutionized the racing game genre and remains a classic title in gaming history.

I remember dumping coins into this at the roller rink in the early 1980's. Watching this video, I can smell the pizza and feel the skates.

I can relate, ATARI got a good chunk of change from me also with this title.. its cool to see how far we have come. Playing it again found it tricky to control with any degree of accuracy... but its one of the classic. Thanks for watching.

My first encounter with anything Atari was with one of their music sequencers in the late 80's. Seemed pretty mind-blowing at the time.

Early stuff like this was so amazing at the time. We didn’t think it would need to be any better.
