I am very new to crochet but so far every tutorial I have tried on this channel has not only worked out perfectly, every video is so fun to watch and I really enjoy the positive energy on them.
I really appreciate how in your videos, you are explaining how to understand the stitches and think creatively about getting the look you want, rather than just teaching us how to do your exact pattern. It's like teaching us the theory behind cooking rather than just how to follow a recipe. Thank you!!
This is absolutely brilliant - it makes join-as-you-go squares/hexagons so much easier when you have to join to that last side! I don't think I'll ever go back to any other method.
Thank you so much for sharing how to avoid the seam in a solid granny square! You explained everything beautifully, and it helped me understand not only how to do it, but why to do what we do. It helps me remember better when I understand why. This is one of the best tutorials on making this granny square that I've seen😊❤
At first glance I couldn’t see why it was so difficult, then I couldn’t see how it could be done! Thankfully you have excellent communication skills Robin 😄. Beautiful finish.
I am starting a Prayer Shawl Ministry at my church and will refer the crocheting novices to your instructional videos for directions & tips. Your ability to teach very clearly is greatly appreciated. ❤
I've been crocheting for nearly 30 years & have NEVER done a granny square...I just didn't like how they looked. Watching this tutorial... I think I wanna give it a go!!! 😁 Thanks for teaching this technique!!!
I love this pattern so much! The way you showed how to keep it going without flipping or turning helped so much! Makes it look seamless! I did go further to about an 18 inch size for a pillow. It is a bit floppy but not horrible. I plan to use this pattern for so many more projects! My mother recently passed so i got her whole "collection" of yarn at my house now, taking up my guest bedroom. I have been trying to find fun different things to make. I am excited to try this as multiple granny squares to put together to make a "quilted" blanket :) :) :) thank you for sharing this :)
Your clips are so clear and very helpful. It's always beaut to know why things are the way they are. Cheers for that.🌟✨️ Love all you stitch work, yarn and patterns. Keep on keeping on.✌🏻🩷🌷🌿
Thankyou for sharing this video with us ❤... you're indeed an amazing teacher ....your instructions are very clear and because of that I was able to make a bucket bag by using the interlocking block stitch/pattern❤❤ Thankyou so much😊
I've made 38 of the 42 squares I need for this blanket and they all have seams and then I saw this 😭 Seriously though, I have learned SO MUCH from Robin and I absolutely love the way she teaches ❤️
I've always done ch2 to start a dc row. Could never work out why so many do ch3. Like you said, it's just too baggy. Loving this method. Thinking I need to make another - better looking - solid granny square rug.
Hi Robin, what a great tip for solid granny squares. Eliminating the seam makes it so much nicer and prettier. But, in addition too, incorporating the invisible join with this technique would be quite informative and helpful.
I have been doing a variation of this exact thing with 2 differences clusters of 4 dc to start and a ch. 1 before closing the corner with a stitch, I never understood the chain one before that last stitch…I like your version much better! And the variation of stitches to use.
@@HookedbyRobin Btw, I've counted 116 st (corner ch included) but for some obscure reason I ended up with only 115 because of 1 corner Dc. Did it happen for you? :)
Oh my gosh!! I have frogged this square so many times I think that I am starting to crave flies! Nonetheless, I am determined to figure it out. Rippit rippit. Cup of tea. Start again. 😂 At least I am using my favorite amethyst color so it's pretty even if it is a mess! UPDATE! Finally! I have a 19x19 stitch square. Now to make a few more for the CAL blanket. (P. S. Zero fly snacks required, just a cup of tea and eye reset). Thanks Robin! I am looking forward to the next square!
Such a useful tutorial @HookedbyRobin thank you! Especially appreciate the explanation about the different types of sts used at the end of round - always great to understand “why” it works (not just “how” to achieve a particular appearance!) 👍
Robin, it is my first time doing the solid granny and you are showing it without a seam. It's so cool! Do you know or have a video on how to do the traditional granny without a seam? You are an excellent teacher!! Thank you so much.Blessings!
You can avoid that bump when closing with the 2 chains at the corner using a "seamless finish to your granny squares, or also called an invisible join." :)
Turns out our lovely hooked by robin has you covered ♡ her video helped me get it and now theyre second nature to me th-cam.com/video/qqOQR-49CxE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rsCa4SiG5wGbElS2
The solid square is the only granny square that I like. However, I do not like the ch2 for the corners and will modify this work of yours. It’s so much closer to what I like than any other solid granny square out there! Thanks, Robin, for this video. 🥰
@@HookedbyRobin I used corner markers and made a 10-inch solid granny, with much smaller corner holes, that I can donate to a group that makes donation blankets. I used a slip-stitch join, which worked well! Thanks, again.

(Anybody can chime in here, not just Robin) I’ve been trying to figure out how to do a temperature blanket with each month represented by a square, each day by a round. It’s driving me crazy 😂 Thanks as always for your fabulous videos ❤
You can use standing stitches for each new row - I show them on this video: th-cam.com/video/apTaO2xB-10/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-joN-aYHJxXV1OZ2 I hope that helps!

Do I follow the pattern for the first row after the face and continue the square like you have shown. Again, a big thank you for sharing.❤
I have this video th-cam.com/video/iVaDqH2O0DI/w-d-xo.html which you could use for a lion face rather than smiley face which has the same stitch count as this solid square if you wanted to mix and match them together? (I hope that makes sense!)
Thank you for this very easy solid granny pattern!!!! Been crocheting for a few years now & I could never figure out how to do a solid granny square for the life of me. They are always crooked or uneven for me on all sides till I found this pattern, now they are straight and even as can be. Do have a question though, Can this pattern be used with a regular granny square or just with the solid granny square? Thanks for the easy pattern!
Thank you for another great tutorial! I am new to crochet and need a little hand holding. If I wanted to use 2 colors, how do you switch to a new color? Do you have a tutorial already for that? Many thanks
I've been trying to do this square for months and today I finally got where I was going wrong.. Answer: Tension. Get that right and the square more or less crochets itself. The HDC to close the ring is incredibly useful and makes the centre look much neater. I have also found a stitch marker helps a lot too, even though they are fiddly things to use sometimes.
