    I’ve heard the weight of adding concrete can be a concern for the existing foundation. I’ve also heard that adding concrete isn’t an issue at all if the foundation looks good to start with. I poured 4 inches raising to 8-10 inches in areas with rebar and fiberglass a few years ago - No issues so far. This was a garage to bedroom conversion.

    I recently added a balcony space(3m2) to the livingroom in a condominium. The balcony was abot 15 cm lower and i filled it first with autoclaved aerated concrete blocks. and a 3cm toplayer of cement. It weight about 300kg less then filling it complete with concrete. Was that actually the right thing to do?

    3:40 if you got a larger compactor could you go more than 3-inches? Would having a larger compactor be too heavy/large then?

    Great job in filling it in and doing it right. Funny thing is as an architect of custom homes, and the owner of a house with a sunken living room i have to say i love mine. Gives my home a comfortable feel. I have large portion of my clients with deep pockets adding these options back into there designs. Moving away from the huge large open room all one floor plane. Not sure these will every be "back in style" but interesting to see them being included in new builds.

    Something very satisfying about these videos.

    • @abandund
      @abandund 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Rob Bob. I’m the dumb homeowner. Maybe you’re right. Here’s about what the material might cost to frame this opening:
      (18) 2”x10”x16’ Joists- $576
      (28) Joist Hangers - $56
      (4) Packs 5” Wedge Anchors - $60
      (8) Sheets 3/4” Ply - $364
      (8) Tubes Liquid Nails Subfloor Glue - $37
      (1) Bucket Deck Screws - $100
      So that’s $1,193. $1,285 with our 7.75% local sales tax. A half load of concrete, 8 tons of class 2 base, and rebar is probably around that same cost. I would argue the labor is probably within the same range, if not more to frame. All that aside, the house is entirely slab-on-grade, so it would be really odd to have a solid floor throughout the house and a corner that is hollow. I also will never have to worry about an inaccessible, below grade void beneath my living room.
      Please elaborate in detail on how it would be cheaper to frame, ignoring the fact that the end product in this situation is infinitely better, regardless of the cost.
