Went to med for it and was diagnosed with pseudofolliculitis barbae. They give you a waiver and some treatment ointment. Only reason I’m watching this video is because i need to take an official photo.

    Too Long Didn't Watch:
Pre-Preparation: Take a hot shower or use a hot towel to open your pours, use a cream based shavecream to stand the hairs up to be cut down.
1: Use a single bladed razer to avoid hair growing incorrectly which causes inflamation and bumps
2: Test what works best for your face over time with going against the grain, with the grain, or across and stick with the best outcome
3: Exfoliate, removing dead skin from your pours twice a week so you dont shave dead skin instead of your hair
4: Close the pores to prevent infection or things getting into them. Use an astringent to close the pours like "Witch Hazel"

I've never once been so grateful to have seen a TH-cam video. Larry... I was certain that everything I did was wrong because I didn't use more razors or enough alcohol based shaving cream or spray. Also I thought pores should be closed before shaving to minimize ingrown hair. I feel so dumb. Also I'm super insecure about razor bumps and ingrown hairs like you can't imagine and worst of all it's on the face! That condition really affects my self-esteem man, thank you so much for the priceless information Larry, you've been better than doctor Oz.

    My daily shaving regime:
    - Use Keihl Oil Eliminator exfoliating face wash on a Spin Brush to clean my face
    - Rinse with warm to hot water
    - Shave with Andis clippers (with the grain)
    - Rinse with warm to hot water, pat dry
    - Apply Skin Tight (extra strength) to a jumbo cotton ball and dab the shaved area
    - After about 30 seconds, apply a layer of 100% organic Aloe Vera Gel
    - Turn my clippers on and dip them in H-42 for 1 minute to sanitize. Dry them off. Cover my blades, store my clippers and start the process over the next morning.
Not saying this process will work for you but I’ve seen fantastic results. And trust me, I’ve tried several approaches with only minimal success. Good luck, brothers!

I have found that using the product 'Skin Tight ' eliminates shaving bumps...period! It comes in regular for sensitive skin or extra strength for guys with bad razor bumps. It works virtually overnight. If you have bad bumps, shave with a fresh blade like normal, dry your face and then apply. It's going to burn like heck at first, but that's because of the pores being open. But it works. It also works for those who shave their heads. Apply on the back of the head and especially the neckline. At first try this method before bed, and check the results in the morning. Apply twice daily on affected areas, and brothers as sure as s**t stinks you'll see results. Thank me later.

For black folks with facial hair (also white folks with coarse/curly hair), shave in this order
    1) Use an electric razor on dry skin to shave the first layer of thick facial hair
    2) Have a warm shower. Optional to use a mild exfoliating agent to cleanse the face
    3) After shower, apply shaving cream and massage for 1 minute
    4) Use a brand new single razor or straight edge blade (single use only) and shave in direction of growth
    5) Rinse off with cold water or pat down with cold towel rinse
    6) Apply aftershave cooling balm / cream moisturizer to tighten and close pores
Voila! If after this you still suffer ingrown hairs no one can save you

I find that once the face is ready for shaving it is also important to not press the blade against the skin but rather allow the weight of the safety razor to gently drag in the direction of the grain and also instead of doing long strokes, shave in small patches. The newer the blade the better and sharper for a perfect shave.

@Red Sunshine I shouldn't have said "buy" when I mean "use!" Think about how many different products we use on our face, body, hair and in our mouth each day. Each product has it's own group of chemicals that individually are dangerous over time. Add them all together, you get Cancers and all manner of other issues. We may not be able to do away with all but cut back or use natural ingredients in the home when possible. But that's just me...

All I do is wash my face with madina aloa vera and shea butter soap (it also exfoliates the skin). Next, I later my face with the same soap and proceed to shave with a 5 blade Gillette shaver. Once I'm done shaving I wash my face with the same soap for a second time and rinse. One more thing. Always use warm or hot water (as hot as you can stand it but, burn your skin) this will open your pores. I've been shaving this way for over 10 years and have NEVER had razor bumps and my wife can't keep her hands off my face. She loves how beautiful my skin looks (me too).

Another problem is people shave with pressure. When pressing against the skin it cuts the hair under the skin level from the pressure. The blade needs to just glide across the skin to cut parallel as he said. Plus a soft bristle brush before a shave helps to kinda pull out those ingrown hair to prep for shave.

Hi Larry, as a newcomer to wet shaving with a DE razor I've not done too bad so far. I mean I've not cut my face off. However I do get Razor bumps, rash and that firery feel quite often. Your vid is clear and concise but can you share your thoughts on the warm or cold razor blade issue. Some guides say warm the blade in warm water to get a softer blade then others say cool the blade under cold water to harden the steel?

My facial hairs are- for some reason, multi-directional. As in, below the chin, some are facing up, some are facing down. What do I do in that situation?

I tossed my electric razor a few months ago out the window and got into Straight Razors shaving. I couldn't even think about shaving twice within 10days. It got gradually better with the straight razor but i still have alot of ingrown hair in the neck area and the lil bumps just get cut off by the razor as if nothing happened, bleeding included. But your video thought me something i should've thought about; exfoliation. I kinda stopped doing it a year or so ago, but fact is, it helps with alot of things. Thank you sir, i will get on that.

One of the most informative videos I have seen on this subject. I win the gold medal for being prone to razor bumps. I have the curliest black hair (4c) and sensitive skin. I use the wahl what a trimmer but still get bumps. I decided to grow a beard and bumps appeared everywhere. Now I am applying witch hazel and hoping that it reduces the swelling. Too many of the videos do not cater to black people with 4C hair. 'Just do this' and 'take this step'. Does not apply to 4c hair :O(

    1. Use a single blade not Multi blade.
    2. Shave with the direction of the grain. Map the direction of your hair. Use non alcoholic based creams. Don't multi pass.
    3. Exfoliate at least twice a week.
    4. Prep: Open your pores with the shower. Then massage shaving oil into the bread. Next use non alcohol shaving cream.
    5. Close pores with refrigerated witchhazel astringent

This was a great video Larry. I am surprised I haven't seen it before when searching for proper way to shave.
I have been dealing with ingrown hairs for years and it driving me crazy. I have tried everything, but also doing it wrong. I will try the single blade as I have been using a multi blade.
Also I have been shaving against the grain instead of with the grain. Sometimes I would use the hot towel and sometimes I don't. I will make the changes now seeing your video.
Lastly I would it if you did a head shaving video tutorial. The prep and detail as you did this one. 😎👍🏾

Maybe being a whitey my stubble is different, but I have been shaving against the grain for almost 35 years with no irritation and no in-grown hairs (have never exfoliated either) . If I shave with the grain not only do I need more than one pass, but I get 5 o'clock shadow at around 11 am.
