Interesting. The arcade Technosoft games always had a definite American martial arts movie style to them, and this game takes that and makes it all anime looking. Nice graphics and CD quality music. Will have to give this version a try.
One thing is sure, Billy during the gameplay looks completely different from the cut scenes. He gets reddish brown hair in the game and even a ruddy tan, but in the cut scene he gets brown hair with black tint and a pale yellow complexion. In the cut scenes, the tempo would get fast -- there's a quick dynamic with the running legs, and urgent spouting of lines. I get the impression that there's no time to waste. But when go back to seeing the gameplay, we're back to seeing a stiff marionette sauntering about, taking his time wandering and beating up guys. I wish the cut scenes and the game were a little bit more consistent with each other in terms of look and pacing. The cut scenes did add more to the imagination of the plot, but they could have blended better with the game at hand IMHO.
Jimmy (he's somewhere in the background): Billy, we gotta go before they kill Marion! Billy: Nope, not yet, I don't see no hand telling me to move on. Let me beat up these guys, I'm having a ball here . . .
LOL. Funny. I do agree though, the in game sprites don't match how the characters look like in the cut scenes. I think they could have put in a little more effort into the graphics in this. But who am I to judge? This game is 20 years old. But I still love this game for being a vastly superior game to DDIII.
They should have remixed all the original music instead of just the opening theme, Shadow Warrior theme and ending theme. At least they kept Machine Gun Willy in this version.
You're right. I wish it had been a bigger system. I don't think that it helped that the good games were for a CD addon either.. those didn't fair too well no matter who released them
Yeah my cousin bought one and he had Keith Courage in Alpha Zones and JJ & Jeff, Splatterhouse 1, Legendary Axe 1 and I think a few others and they were all good games.
if this game and dd advanced (gba) has machine gun willy and the mystery warrior/shadow master then they should make a double dragon game that features both the arcade/video games and cartoon characters (i.e. bad guys). it should also have the batman arkham graphics.
Wow...... The only stage that looks anything like the original arcade is Mission 8. They kept the helicopter and all the traps and platforming from the NES version. Those big guys with the shoulder-rams musta lost alot of weight and beefed up compared to how they looked in the arcade. Tthey kept Wily in the game even if we didn't see him gun down Marion. The Shadow Boss looks like Wolfgang Krauser. He doesn't have his armor on in the game, and then he does in the cinema.
damn super cd-rom. I got a the Turbografx-CD add on and didn't realize it would be so difficult to find the 3.0 system card which most of the games require. Cheapest one is going for like 150 bucks on ebay
I just checked to see if the month of July displayed on the calendar at 2:56 matches up with 2015. It does, now we know what the XX of 20XX is. Or was this game set in 19XX? I forget
The NES version says 19xx and considering how the levels in this version are similar but with better graphic and sound quality I would go with the NES version timeline.
I actually was working on it, but I didn't have a translator. I couldn't figure out what the normal ending meant. I had the entire intro done though. It was both spoofy and awesome. I may have to go find it again on my laptop.
You could try using the Google Translate app to help you out. Once you have the app on your phone put it into mic mode and take note of what your phone's screen says. It may not be 100% accurate but should be enough for you to the main ideas of what's being said.
Brandon lee and Dolph lundgren In Double dragon 2 the revenge This time they fighting to avenge the death of Marian An defeat the black shadow warriors
that beginning story hmmm...okaaayyy, most of the time this is kewl but sometimes my brothers from the east take it too far...too stereotypical anime--breaking through brick wall to say something at the same time? come on
Never played the PC CD engine version but in terms of graphics and playability looks OK, the cutscenes and dubbing were great for its time BUT THE MUSIC SUCKS, even compared with the NES version which it´s IMHO the best port.
I respect your opinion but I still prefer the NES version; however there a couple of tracks I liked a lot, the stage 4 and last boss BGM, the rest is just "meh".
Naxat made some great SCD games but were never all that great in the graphics department. The animation could be better as could the actual drawing of the sprites. Still, it's miles ahead of shit like Hudson's Crest of Wolf! The SEGA/WESTONE arcade game on which it was based was not the greatest, but it was a hundred times better than the PC Engine version. It sucks that SEGA did not make their own version for the MCD. The PC Engine excelled at many genres, beat em ups was NOT one of them!
The sprites look rather bad and the game seems to be locked to only 2 enemies at once. Also the cutscenes seem out of place and the music is not much "Double Dragon-esque". And odd mix overall, not too bad though.
Yohko M. literally goes around to every PC-Engine game video leaving snide comments, and left handed digs. They're a huge Sega fanboy and troll lol... Go look some other videos and check the comments. It's hilarious. "Well, actually... " "Well, technically..." Jesus what a 'sperg, lol. Parallax Craze is another one. Hell, that could be Yohko's alt
I knew it!! Billy's voice is same as Vegeta from Dragon Ball :D
Interesting. The arcade Technosoft games always had a definite American martial arts movie style to them, and this game takes that and makes it all anime looking. Nice graphics and CD quality music. Will have to give this version a try.
This game is colorful and makes me happy.😊😊
Billy looks like a younger version of Kenshiro, while Jimmy looks like a younger version of MD Geist.
One thing is sure, Billy during the gameplay looks completely different from the cut scenes. Looks like pegasus of saint seiya
So the opening is Bimmy and Jimmy beating up every Hokuto no Ken thug ever.
Double Dragon DOES take place after a nuclear war, after all.
Best version of Double Dragon 2.
pensaba que la mejor era la de nes, pero nunca habia visto la de pc engine!!! es genial!!
Awesome. The best DD2 version next to the NES version. Hail Double Dragon.
Great version with an amazing OST!!!!
I find it fascinating that this version appears to be based upon the NES port of DD2 as opposed to the arcade original. Not a bad thing at all.
What the heck! T-0815, you are my hero.
I've never beat this game on hard without using cheats. The best I did was getting to the mission 7.
Is it just me or does Billy look like Kenshiro?
KuroNoTenno Even the box art has kenshiros body type
i hate to break it to ya. but billy was ALWAYS supposed to have been a bruce lee mullet.
the american version gave us those ugly-ass mullets.
I love the DD theme when it comes on at 2:25!
Why wasnt this game ported to the Sega CD for U.S release? Looks just as good as the NES game.
They should have remixed all the original music instead of just the opening theme, Shadow Warrior theme and ending theme. At least they kept Machine Gun Willy in this version.
Releases like this staying in Japan are why the system had NO chance in the US or Europe.
You're right. I wish it had been a bigger system. I don't think that it helped that the good games were for a CD addon either.. those didn't fair too well no matter who released them
Isn't the PC Engine just the Japanese version of the Turbografx 16?
Gary Beltz Yes.
johnhasaguitar Its a shame too, because the system COULD do really good games. Bloody Wolf being a fav of mine.
Yeah my cousin bought one and he had Keith Courage in Alpha Zones and JJ & Jeff, Splatterhouse 1, Legendary Axe 1 and I think a few others and they were all good games.
41:10 Never heard of the spiderman skills of the Lee bros
I thought this was like the NES Version. Where is the Strong Uppercut, and Super Knee Attacks that were in the NES Version?
reminds me of my younger days. GOD I feel old LOL!!!!
Joker's laugh and Viki Vale scream...

Tthey kept Wily in the game even if we didn't see him gun down Marion. The Shadow Boss looks like Wolfgang Krauser. He doesn't have his armor on in the game, and then he does in the cinema.
Krauser was based on Shadow Boss from Nes Double Dragon II.And Shadow Boss was based on Hokuto no Ken villains.
Risk taking remake. Cinematically awesome.
this game looks pretty cool like a re imagining of the nes one although I think I prefer the nes one instead.
Some really cheesy 90's tv drama soundtrack in here !
damn super cd-rom. I got a the Turbografx-CD add on and didn't realize it would be so difficult to find the 3.0 system card which most of the games require. Cheapest one is going for like 150 bucks on ebay
Had no idea this version even existed. Soundtrack is pretty nice. I like the use of Marian's screams in the first level's music, lol.
It is at least as good as the NES version, if not better in many respects, such as graphics and control.
it is worse.
I just checked to see if the month of July displayed on the calendar at 2:56 matches up with 2015. It does, now we know what the XX of 20XX is. Or was this game set in 19XX? I forget

Billy (the blue guy) looks exactly like Kenshiro from Hokuto no Ken :)

This game is great! Got the pce version lol
i wish they had did this version on the snes or genesis, that'll be great. great music and graphics.
She was named in the first NES game if memory serves me right.
nice, didn't realize this was a pce game
*HOKUTO HYAKURETSU KEN!!!*
Oh wait! Wrong game...
Mission 2 theme is pure win
Shadow Master makes me think of Hyou from Hokuto no Ken
nothing beats the arcade version and the NES/Famicom version
didn't know Araab Muzik produced for this game
Heatmakerz
In the custscenes, Jimmy Lee looked like Kenshiro from the manga, Fist of the North Star (who was also based on Bruce Lee).
I like the second mission's theme.
No, not in the manuals, but rather in the vs. game mode.
I totally want this now! And I totally want to be able to post hour videos!
The Nes version is still insanely superior to this game... brutal.
What a great rebuttal.
Ok
He's right, you had no rebuttal. NES version is still the best.
What a great idiot?
Get a life
Billy looks like Pegasus Seiya and sounds like Andromeda Shun.
Loved DD II on the Amiga
brutal intro!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Who (the original guy's comment is gone)?
Man, I'm walking like that guy from now on.
Someone needs to do the cutscenes in english audio since you can hack pc engine games now! That would be epic!
I actually was working on it, but I didn't have a translator. I couldn't figure out what the normal ending meant. I had the entire intro done though. It was both spoofy and awesome. I may have to go find it again on my laptop.

Attention to detail was never a factor back in those days. Just have to accept that.
when did this version came out? it looks good.
Robert Thompson 1993
Brandon lee and Dolph lundgren
In
Double dragon 2 the revenge
This time they fighting to avenge the death of Marian
An defeat the black shadow warriors
hey the song at 40:30 has the same melody as an ace ventura song lol
To bad they didn't translate this into English. PC engine was pretty legit even though I only knew one kid that had one
How can I download this game?
+Ma Chan www.emuparadise.me/M.A.M.E._-_Multiple_Arcade_Machine_Emulator_ROMs/7

@50:07 shadow master does "joker thing"
Think someone could subtitle the dialog?
I would love to see this shit on the Wii virtual console.
I love RETRO!!!
funny how the nes version swapped levels 4 and 5 round. Personally I much prefer the new music/
You Wish Hell, Yeah. That Broke My 4th Wall.
At around 1:06 the narrator mentions "Bimmy and Jimmy" haha. Makes me think of the angry video game nerd. Bimmy...
This game is where it's at for PC-Engine beat 'em ups. Riot Zone sucks balls.
that beginning story hmmm...okaaayyy, most of the time this is kewl but sometimes my brothers from the east take it too far...too stereotypical anime--breaking through brick wall to say something at the same time? come on
anyone else think 1:20 is a total ripp off of Ninja Turtles?
In version dd2 gb Willy change name became anderson
i was born in the wrong place
DO ANOTHER MOVE BESIDES PUNCH
actually im trying to think maybe not ace ventura actually now i remember its from dumb and dumber!!! with jim carrey and jeff daniels lol
Arcade is best
The first level music is annoying with that chick screaming.
Lol, I should've figured.
I actually always wondered if Linda (the character) is a lesbian, or just a very tomboyish woman.
Never played the PC CD engine version but in terms of graphics and playability looks OK, the cutscenes and dubbing were great for its time BUT THE MUSIC SUCKS, even compared with the NES version which it´s IMHO the best port.

@14:10 G*R*A*S*P
Combat looks super boring in this version

+A Shaw Your Opinion On This Game?

Thumbs down for playing solo. Another thumb down for being inferior to the NES version. The music just doesn't belong in this game
The sprites look rather bad and the game seems to be locked to only 2 enemies at once. Also the cutscenes seem out of place and the music is not much "Double Dragon-esque". And odd mix overall, not too bad though.

Come on Turbo was terrible. 90% shooters. Bad ports of Sega games and no good RPGs that are in English.
THe Nintendo version is way better!
Leetphreak What aspect?
looks terrible
DUSNK01 well, just don't see the video
DUSNK01 and this doesn't look terrible for that time, and if you're a nes fanboy, go and play your bimmy and jimmy, one life hard impossible game
Stick to PS - again....
Like i said spoken like a noob - 100%
