As someone who works at one of these big tech companies, I hear Kris's optimism at 4:11:00 about how Sony should read the writing on the wall and just think, oh there's no way they're going to think that. They will just go, oh cool xbox is going down hill, lets try to catch the money as it flys out if their pockets. That would never happen to us, we are just built different. I hope im worng, but man there is some serious brain rot in marketing/PR/executives, the whole lot. Also, i highly doubt that Sony thinks the Switch 2 is a threat until it actually comes out. Since part of the end of the news segment is about how the Switch 2 is likely going to destroy the competition considering how the western end of the industry is doing, I want to point out that we are seemingly going to get the Switch's launch roster 2.0. As in, we're likely getting a 3D Mario (wouldn't be surprised if it was a launch title), Pokémon Legends Z-A is likely going to be cross-gen, Monolith Soft is likely going to have a new game in the launch year, Kirby could likely get a launch year title, Metroid Prime 4 is probably going to be cross-gen, the next Mario Kart might be launch year (or Year 2 at least), and this isn't even considering that they could patch older games like the Xenoblade trilogy, the Nintendo Warriors games, and BotW & TotK to work better on the Switch 2. The only thing that will likely be missing from launch year would be a new Zelda, unless they have some other studio working on a 2D Zelda game and could otherwise be in the second year of the console. And then we are likely getting a new Smash Bros title (they were seemingly hiring a level designer for a Smash game between November 2023 and February 2024) and then also Pokémon Gen 10 for the series' 30th anniversary in the second year of the console. I'm willing to also bet we'll also get a new Star Fox game within the Switch 2 launch year, because apparently Star Fox assets were found in the data of Nintendo Switch Sports. It's going to be wild.
I listened to a podcast that was _not_ a gaming podcast talk about current events in gaming (it was relevant to their niche nerd topic), and let me tell you. It is _strange_ to listen to a podcast that isn't BTD or even Castle Super Beast talk about gaming. It's like a fucking bizarro world out there sometimes. No hate to them because I love the guys talking but it definitely gave me a moment of "oh you guys should stick to what you know, huh?".

Kind of amazing how Sony sabotaged their entire release schedule and Xbox has completely self-destructed both just in time for new Nintendo hardware to hit. It's looking so good for them that I'm convinced Nintendo are going to fuck it up at the last second somehow. Everything to be said about Xbox has been said, so on the PSN accounts on PC thing; getting user data to use and sell is absolutely part of it, but frankly I also suspect it's to try and get a Monthly Active Users count boost or the like, because that's a number you can throw at shareholders as 'proof' that the Line Is Going Up, especially in/after a FY where sales have slowed, PSVR2 has begun to flop and major releases are few in number and far off due to major mismanagement.

As someone who works at one of these big tech companies, I hear Kris's optimism at 4:11:00 about how Sony should read the writing on the wall and just think, oh there's no way they're going to think that. They will just go, oh cool xbox is going down hill, lets try to catch the money as it flys out if their pockets. That would never happen to us, we are just built different. Because, while the eventual release of a new system from Nintendo was obviously going to happen sooner or later, we've had so many empty rumors on it over the years that it's good to finally get some actual real confirmation from Nintendo that this is happening, and considering it's Nintendo, that it's probably happening soon (so lining up with the latest rumor of next March).

Since part of the end of the news segment is about how the Switch 2 is likely going to destroy the competition considering how the western end of the industry is doing, I want to point out that we are seemingly going to get the Switch's launch roster 2.0.
As in, we're likely getting a 3D Mario (wouldn't be surprised if it was a launch title), Pokémon Legends Z-A is likely going to be cross-gen, Monolith Soft is likely going to have a new game in the launch year, Kirby could likely get a launch year title, Metroid Prime 4 is probably going to be cross-gen, the next Mario Kart might be launch year (or Year 2 at least), and this isn't even considering that they could patch older games like the Xenoblade trilogy, the Nintendo Warriors games, and BotW & TotK to work better on the Switch 2. The only thing that will likely be missing from launch year would be a new Zelda, unless they have some other studio working on a 2D Zelda game and could otherwise be in the second year of the console.
And then we are likely getting a new Smash Bros title (they were seemingly hiring a level designer for a Smash game between November 2023 and February 2024) and then also Pokémon Gen 10 for the series' 30th anniversary in the second year of the console. I'm willing to also bet we'll also get a new Star Fox game within the Switch 2 launch year, because apparently Star Fox assets were found in the data of Nintendo Switch Sports. It's going to be wild.
I've been listening since 2020 and this episode feels like a culmination of so many conversations about the industry since then.

I listened to a podcast that was _not_ a gaming podcast talk about current events in gaming (it was relevant to their niche nerd topic), and let me tell you. It is _strange_ to listen to a podcast that isn't BTD or even Castle Super Beast talk about gaming. It's like a fucking bizarro world out there sometimes. No hate to them because I love the guys talking but it definitely gave me a moment of "oh you guys should stick to what you know, huh?".

Kind of amazing how Sony sabotaged their entire release schedule and Xbox has completely self-destructed both just in time for new Nintendo hardware to hit. It's looking so good for them that I'm convinced Nintendo are going to fuck it up at the last second somehow.
Everything to be said about Xbox has been said, so on the PSN accounts on PC thing; getting user data to use and sell is absolutely part of it, but frankly I also suspect it's to try and get a Monthly Active Users count boost or the like, because that's a number you can throw at shareholders as 'proof' that the Line Is Going Up, especially in/after a FY where sales have slowed, PSVR2 has begun to flop and major releases are few in number and far off due to major mismanagement.
