Just to do a compare and contrast to modern horror films, you ought to take a look at two classic, high quality 1960's era ghost stories "The Innocents" (based on the classic novel "The Turn of the Screw") and "The Haunting." They use atmospheric settings and an overall dreamlike mood to unsettle you rather than a lot of jump scares. The black and white cinematography that uses the contrast between light and shadow beyond what color film can do, adds to the feeling of creeping dread because your imagination fills in some of the detail.
1:25 That's old school horror movie music. If you watch more horror films from the 1930s-1970s you'll hear a lot more like this movie's score. Director James Wan likes to use this kind of music as a sort of shoutout to those classic films, he does it in the Insidious franchise too. 38:00 The Addams family women are notoriously difficult to impress, so no worries. 38:50 That's my favorite part too! 41:00 You made it through the entire movie. Might've taken more than one sitting, but you didn't nope out. So you're not that big a coward.
I love this movie so much and out of all thw movies this one is the only one that truly scares me even now when watching it. This is not the first reaction to this movie I have seen when something falls when watching it...for you it was the lights and for the other reactors it was a painting behind them that fell. Loosely based on a true story because yes the Warrens were real people and yes they have a museum of artifacts they collected over the years but they had nothing to do with helping the Parron family in fact they accidently made things worse for them. Unlike the movie the family lived in that house for 10 years and the real story is so much more horrifying than the movie shows, so much so that James decided not to use what was given to him because he thought it would be too scary. Aslo gotta say no possesion,no exorcism and no bethshiva either that was all just for the sake of the movie.

This happening during one of the really quiet, tense scenes. Other than that silly RL jump scare, this film have me chills :P

It was kinda freaky when the first light went out, but when the second one went out, I thought, poor Aria. She has to sleep in the midst of fear.

I’d definitely recommend just doing release order. Some of the Easter eggs will just make a lot more sense
