A great game report, thank you for compiling it. If you ever have an opportunity to visit the battlefield it is certainly worthwhile. I had a wonderful time there, but my 13 year old daughter less so.
Lol. Kids huh? 🤣 I took my elders daughter around the battlefield at Hastings when she was about seven or eight. She pretended to be bored as I explained everything walking around. Then 25 years later did the same battlefield walk with a new husband and claimed to thoroughly enjoy it.
Indeed. Richard informed us at the end of the game that the reserves the French were waiting for, were never going to arrive before the end of the game. A victory would have been holding our line of retreat, but by the time we stopped playing it was clear we would have been lucky to survive two more turns, let alone the three remaining in the scenario.
Hey Big Lee! I'm not all that familiar with the Franco-Prussian War... but, it is always nice to learn about a "New To Me" period. I'll be looking forward to seeing your review of the rule set that was used. I must admit though... I have always wondered how the French or the Germans would have stacked up against the U.S. Army of 1865 in approximately the same time. "Uncle Billy" T. Sherman & his "Bummers" on the loose in Europe?! It boggles the mind!
Victor Davis Hanson the American historian has a view on this. Basically he’d back Grant and Sherman, mainly as they had a complete industrial warfare system in full swing, in 1865. Obviously by 1870, it had all but disappeared.
I flirted with ' They Died For Glory' when they they first came out. Played a couple of games then bought the rules and Irregular 6mm figures. Never got them painted as I fell for Fire and Fury and the ACW instead!

I have ordered a set of the rules based entirely on that one game. As you said, it was a great day, great company and a cracking game.
I had such a good time, and enjoyed the rules so much that it dulled the edge of our defeat 😆. Glad you enjoyed your visit to the shed-o-war.
