- Just after filing for bankruptcy and closing all of their stores, Toys R Us was a company many had thought was dead forever. However since my Abandoned episode came out on the iconic retailer, the owners of the company have turned things around. Reviving the brand, opening new stores and big plans in the works. Today let's take a look at how they turned things around and what the future may mean for the once beloved toy retailer. This is the 2020 update for Toys R US.

When I was a kid, the promise of going to Toys R Us got me so excited that my stomach would hurt.
It was magical.

I remember when I got good grades my mom would take me there to pick out a toy. One toy I picked was a else LEGO set- LOL

Toys R Us filled a niche that isnt out there, sure you can get toys online or at department stores but they don't have the variety or depth like Toys R Us had
Honestly, I'm not impressed with the new direction. For me, going to a giant sprawling store filled with toys and looking for something new and on sale was most of the excitement, and the curated smaller stores seem antithetical to that.
Still, I am glad that they're trying to come back in some fashion.
Parents (like me), want to be able to bring their kids to a toy store for the fun of getting to be there in person. I liken the new Toys R Us locations to the Disney Store’s that have the castles and interactive movie areas. It’s a similar idea. My kid loves to go there because there’s a bit of fun to be had that isn’t present in a Target.
They don't have the interaction like Toys R Us had either, that's where I'd go to see cool Kenex creations and try new stuff. That seems to be what is going to bring them back. A "come here and buy something or don't just promise to try something" attitude. If people go home and buy it online any way there's a okay chance they'll buy it from target any how. I think this is gonna work honestly. I really hope so
@@danielpowell482 Let's not forget what happened to the Disney Stores, though; I am not certain that a smaller business model will necessarily be profitable in the long run. Toys'R' Us as it was wasn't completely unprofitable -- the capital firms that bought it simply made the company take on more debt than it could handle.
Michael Adams There’s still a lot of Disney stores though. I’ve been going to many different ones for the past 5 years in both NY and TX.
Funny, Target failed miserably in Canada but Toys R Us is still booming.

Everytime I visited my grandmothers house, she would take us to toys r us. Was real heartbroken when they bankrupted and am happy to see a return.
i remember when they had these lego events where they gave free lego figure/builds and i would always beg my grandma to go and get free lego. good times.
They still have them in Canada.
omg same but we went there as just a family outing to to buy but to look and have fun. this went down horrribly though when our only toysRus in town burned to the ground.

Toy R Us needs to have a nostalgia section when they re open! Classic Nicktoons, Disney tv, and Cartoon Network sections. But also some Nick Jr. and Playhouse Disney throwback! I would give anything to have Bear in the Big Blue House toys/clothes ❤

this is such a genius idea. I know so many people who'd come to toys r us just for things like that. it'd be cool if they had limited edition kind of merchandise too or even some graphic t-shirts to throw in

This store was my early childhood when I lived in the states in the late 2000s, and it broke me seeing them out of business, despite being very distant to me in that time. I am so happy to see them back to create more awesome childhoods like mine.

For many not really, if they can't ever get to one of the few select locations, and it won't be the same as the Toys R' US we all grew up with that had the massive selection you did not have to order, and wait 2 weeks to get.
Nope. Their parents will still buy things online or from a location closer and more convenient. I see no point in trying to continue this franchise in brick and mortar when it was the internet that killed it.

Maybe like that Patents can bring their childs to this place when they are at the mall, and Toysrus will take paid for that if they don't but something. But yeah IF it works the same like before it will shut down again.
@@MrTorre05 Trouble is a lot of Malls are dying, and have already died, and the whole "Human Malware" has only sped up the process for the dying malls. Even my mall The Augusta Mall in Augusta GA(would have had massive traffic during Masters week which did not happen this year), which is one of the biggest malls left in the southeast is struggling right now with over 1/2 it's stores closed up tight as of last weekend when I was there for shoes, and same with the little booths littered throughout the mall being closed, and I can't see some of the retailers lasting much longer in it like JCpenney, or GameStop(both on hard times even before all this), and once the anchor stores start to leave, it's usually downhill from there for the rest of the mall, so I say Toys R' US is going to have a hard time of it if this continues to be their plans going forward.

I’m glad they revived themselves in the way that they have. It’s such a creative solution, and very fitting for a store that’s always seemed to spark such imagination and wonder like Toys R Us. ☺️
I remember when I was a kid I use to go to Toys R Us to buy Thomas and Friends toys , when I got older I was buying some Transformers Toys.
Anyone remember "little miss magic hair"? Her hair would change color with hot or cold water.
My parents divorced when I was 2 and when I was a kid growing up I would spend occasional weekends with my Dad. On the drive there and back there was a ToysRus that I could spot from miles away because it had a big noticeable sign by the highway and I always asked him if we could stop. We only ever actually did like once or twice but it's the best memory I have of this company because my Dad passed away a couple years ago. I miss you Dad.

The new toys r us is giving me more of a Disney store vibe and I love it!! So happy to see it up and coming again. I was so sad when it closed and thought about how one day my kids will never get the experience I had. Now, I don’t have to worry about that

There was a Toys R Us pop-up on the "Magnificent Mile" (Michigan Ave) in Chicago during the 2019 holiday season (in the space formerly occupied by Topman, and previously Borders - lots' of bankrupt retail icons on that corner...)

I was at the reopening in New Jersey, for the small space ( large for a mall size but small for a toys r us size) it’s absolutely amazing! I had alot of fun there, and hopefully can go back after the pandemic is over, if they survive this.
I think they will. I don't see them incurring many debts because of this (only 2 locations and they still will have a digital presence) and with a good original idea, there will always be investors

@@ghostgirl7089 to be fair mine is just a theory but I don't see this being the end. There is just too much going for it now, and probably by the end of the month the Texas store will be able to open back up in some form.
It's also hard to say what their business with Target implys, as Target is one of the few stores that will likely be okay after lock down has been lifted. If so, will Target be able to help out like previously planned?

Me too. I would go there and just play with the toys in the store without buying anything. My favorite area was the Train Set. I would play around unf with the large train area and enjoy it.

The "new" TRU concept store is the Toys R Us concept that already existed in Asia even before the pandemic & during the American closures.

Toys R us was a massive part of my childhood, and I shed a tear seeing it close. Now seeing it reopen, is truely incredible.
Product interaction is a smart move. The best part of my Toys R Us experience was always the train table they had set up. Video game demos. Bikes you could ride around! And it provides a pretty good reason to show up instead of just clicking "add to cart".

As of 2021, the 2 Toys R Us mall locations have since closed; and Toys R Us has recently opened a flagship store in American Dream Mall

I didn't know they went under until maybe after a year, here in Portugal they're still around (and in Spain too). The big box store I used to go to by a mall when I was little is still there.
From what I was told some spanish company is running the Iberian locations, I don't know if it's in a franchising way or what else, but they're still kicking like the old days over here.
I am so happy! My dad would take my sister to look at all the toys and if we were lucky, we could get something we really wanted! We were so sad when it closed so I am happy it is making a solid come back!
