Yeah screw Pokémon I used my hacked 3ds to get rid of the shiny locks on ultra sun and can now hunt all the static encounters, tapus, light trio, and zygarde, very hype, I already got solgaleo just need the others, and i plan to do it for deoxys in alpha sapphire too
Fun fact, the Tapus were the OG Galar Birds, only accessible shiny via events until Crown Tundra. Specifically the same battle event things. Still got my Tapu Fini from the last 1 in USUM in Shield
They actually started shiny locks back in gen 5 with the box legendaries and mythicals, and since then have gone rampent. It sucks because a lot of cool shinies have been unavailable for years. We STILL dont have any way to get a shiny Victini, not even from events and its been 10+ years since gen 5. There are only a few pokemon I can understand being shiny locked but gamefreak knows it upsets everyone yet still does it, which is what boggles me. They for sure saw how excited people were to shiny hunt the starters and legendaries in BDSP, giving them possibly more sales for people who literally only wanted to shiny hunt them. I just hope Scarlett/Violet is very light on the locks. We have no reason to have locked starters which is something I cant understand why they did for Sw/Sh for the life of me.
To add to this, I think its even worse when pokemon are locked to only be claimed through events. I personally dont like to put a pokemon in my collection if I didnt catch it or if it doesnt have my OT. I consider events or cherish ball Pokemon their OWN collection, so to collectors like me its just a kick in the butt
Exactly! And the sad part is, I think game freak is gonna continue shiny locking the starters and box art legendaries moving forward. They want people to play through the game and showcase the gameplay more than just resetting the same 10 seconds for weeks 😔
Shiny mew can be obtained in generation 1 through the mew glitch. If you’re referring to the event mew distribution those aren’t really shiny locks they’re just pre determined Pokémon that are only set one way. These have been a thing throughout the entire franchise. However if you want to be REALLY technical, the first shiny locks were seen in generation 3 in Pokémon Colosseum and XD. You cannot hunt the starter espeon and umbreon in Colosseum and you cannot hunt the shadow Pokémon in XD. Along with this, the Pokémon ranger manaphy is also shiny locked but only for the initial game that receives the egg. After you trade it to a different save file, it’ll then have a chance to be shiny!
I kind of understood shiny locking the box legendaries and catchable mythicals (whether they require an event like Victini or are just in the game like ORAS Deoxys), even though I don't like it. Locking side legendaries is where I really started to get annoyed, and starters being locked just straight up sucks, even though you can still breed for shiny starters.
Yep! I would prefer they don’t shiny lock anything but yeah story based legendaries I can understand. But crown tundra was essentially a coin a flip as to what legendaries would or wouldn’t be shiny locked. And it’s a crime that you can get shiny solgaleo and lunala but it’s still impossible to get shiny cosmog and cosmoem!

I didn’t even think of that! You can normally get mystery gifts whether or not you have the online subscription but for these you have to participate in an online competition that you actually need the subscription for
I mean I agree with the rant as I couldn't even get them as I don't have switch online so I find it annoying that I can't get three pokemon I should of been able to get without it
Yeah shiny locks suck. I got a shiny Victini yesterday in white after 3053 runaways. I had to use an AR to remove the shiny check obviously. It’s a shame that you can’t just pick up the game and hunt the Mons you want.
Yeah I feel the same way but I hate how we’re getting to a point where even basic legendaries like these may never be available to hunt legit in main series

Darn I wish I could help! I only have the one Nintendo subscription though so I could only get one of each! Hopefully they do make a way for us to hunt them in the future…
Whats worst about this is you can LITERALLY go to jail if you hack a shiny locked pokemon like Victini which is just ridiculous, heck whats even the point of them having shinies anyway? They should also make more shiny hunting methods thats actually WORTH the wait and not some straight up waste of time. (Im looking at you masuda method)
Idk where you live but I don’t think people get prosecuted here for hacking shiny Pokémon lol. HOWEVER I do believe people have been prosecuted for hacking in tournaments for major games where money was involved
What I hated even more was them shiny locking Cosmog and Keldeo after all these years...

They may do an event in the future but who knows. It’ll probably be a while before we’ll be able to hunt them ourselves. Maybe even never
