- Inspired by trips to Mexico, Claire Golden restored her historic mission-styled courtyard in San Antonio. She banished sloping lawn for pleasant outdoor rooms, connected by a central aqueduct, bold plants, and a margarita cantina.
In front, a shady plaza arranged with faux bois furniture by Carlos Cortes invites conversation around a recirculating stream.

Well... I know money alone can't buy happiness, but this gets pretty darn close. Incredible home and love her passion for it.

That beautiful courtyard fits the home, and it's gracious owner. Just lovely.
It reminds of the Arab gardens in the Spanish peninsula. It is where that style originates. They loved water running and its sound. In the Medieval they were more sophisticated than many Europeans. They were finally expelled from Spain by the Catholic King and Queen but left many architectonical wonders behind.
Wow, I could spend the rest of my life in that wonderful and relaxing garden.

If you scratch the soil in San Antonio, you encounter limestone bedrock a couple of inches below the surface! I know, from being a kid there 😀 and from how they had to jackhammer it to put in our childhood pool.
So true, I moved to SA late in life and trying to create a landscape in NW San Antonio is next to impossible. A shovel hits rock at about 3-4 inches across my property!@@merrywalsh2809

This is the most beautiful courtyard I've seen in such a very long time in America. I'm seriously considering to design and construct a yard like this only much smaller. Lol. Mexico is the ultimate beauty that I've seen in all my travels. I've always been inspired by such artistic beauty and talent of their culture!!!

Wow. Incredible. This is perfect. The pools, the sconce lighting, palms, the door, the rustic Bridge. This lady has the "it" factor when it comes to taste. It doesn't hurt that she has the Betty White dimples. I was expecting her to start a vignette about St. Olaf.😉 oh, almost forgot. I would do exactly the same on the espalier. A good use for courtyard walls. A++ I'm moving to Dallas in two months. When I knock on the door please let me in. I'll pay.
Oh, just breathtakingly beautiful. I could spend many a twilight reading Garcia-Marquez and enjoying some ranch water. Reminds me a bit of the McNay center courtyard, a local art museum to San Antonio, TX.

That has to be one of the most beautiful courtyards I’ve seen in America. However, as an artist and hobbyist historian, that is much more a Spanish/Moorish or even Ottoman than a Mexican inspired courtyard.

Quite lovely! I am a horticulturist by trade and I am also a former landscaper... What a Paradise she has (had) created!! All I can think of is to say, it must be nice to be rich!!! Like many of my former clients, there seems to be no limits on all of the accessories she can purchase to give her garden that "it" look!!! (We call them "checkbook gardeners"... Too bad they didn't interview any of the people who actually made "it" happen!!!

That sounds fantastic! And garden building does take lots of time, but you said it best "coming along nicely." And it's always changing, too, so never "done."

Yes looks like the Haciendas turned to spa hotels in the Yuccatan
Persian gardens were spread across the world by Islamic empire and later got known as Islamic gardens. They later got evolved into other gardens such as French and British gardens.
and later from the Islamic contact in Spain and Italy, and from Spain expanded to Mexico and other parts of Latin America, and later to the California, the American S.W. ,Texas .and also from Spain to Cuba and the Caribbean and into Florida,USA.
