I'm sure that during 1991, some death-metal drummers have abandonned their instrument after listening to the "Human" album... this drumming was so inventive and intense...
But I know he would just blush fiercely to watch g. Hoglan & t. Haake gush about how 19 yr old Sean changed everything for them & inspired them to study & improve after seeing what he did on Human & Cynic's Focus. Hell, he'd be embarrassed that they made a tribute album abt him after he died.
I was 19 when Human came out, and a struggling metal drummer, and while I was good, I wasn't the drummer Sean was, he was brilliant! I think you were probably joking saying he made drummers quit, he inspired me to become better, he showed what was possible, and though it was overwhelming to someone at my skill level it was a goal to strive towards.
To think he was only 19 when he recorded Human and have that level of drumming is something else. I've listened to a lot of rock, metal and even a few electronic bands and no other drummer I've seen I personally think has the same balance of creativity, diversity, aggression and overall technical ability. Chuck may have unfortunately passed away too soon but I'm so happy guys like Steve, Gene. Sean, Richard, Paul among others can still make awesome material.
I keep coming back to these videos and this one specifically. The fills on this are fucking insane. Literslly out of this world. This level of drumming should be every drummers goal. SEAN WAS 20 YEARS OLD. He was still a kid. Think about that. Fucking insane. An actual legend was lost when he died. His work will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace Sean Reinert
Definitely belongs in the discussion, but the second I think about the names "Gene Hoglan" and "Pete Sandoval"... slipping him into the top 5 might be a task. That said... he is a beast, although I like his stuff with Cynic so much better.
@@toddwilliams8128 Um... he is greater than both of them in technique and feel. It all comes down to personal preference in the end, but its telling when people like gene say its EXTREMELY hard to cover sean's songs correctly. He is objectively one of the greatest of all time.

With all the exceptional musicians passing on much too early, Sean Reinerts death was the one the struck me hardest ... loved and adored all his work. With Death, Cynic an Aeon Spoke .... a real tragedy.
it's so cool watching him playing this tune so young and energetic, and of course that double bass with no trigger....pure bliss, only a few drummers have the power and stamina to play that tight with no triggers....old school stuff here.
I dont know about the whole few drummers without triggers thing, also, triggers dont make you tight at all, yes if youre hitting really weak, they can amplify that, but they have nothing to do with tightness.
Yeah, the no triggers thing makes a huge difference. The uneven dynamics give it a much more natural sound compared to most modern metal drummers. Way harder to pull off but it sounds awesome.
I've always loved their all around free-flowing musicianship, especially on human. It got away from me on sound of perseverance where it just started sounding random, but Jesus could these men play. True innovators.
I think Sean was certainly my most favourite drummer in Death, I really wish he had done Individual Thought patterns, Symbolic and especially Sound of Perseverance, No dis-respect to Gene, or Richard, but this is insane, at 20-21 years old as well? What a beast. Individual Thought Patterns, Symbolic and Sound of Perseverance would of been even better with this kind of technicality, especially considering that Sean would be gotten EVEN better, he really is awesome with his jazz.
I've been listening to this song since 1991, always loved it. Seeing this performed live here gives me a whole 'nother appreciation for it. One of the best death metal songs of all time. Long live Chuck, long live Sean, long live metal.
Im back commenting again lmfao. still the greatest drummer i have ever seen in my life. I love gene but im really thinking how amazing it would have been to have this lineup on the next death albums after human

That´s right. With Gene on drums. Had ourselves the pleasure supporting both bands in Denmark, Copenhagen(Pumpehuset) on their european tour. A local band called Detest. WOUW!!! flashback XD
the trigger is effectively an electronic switch which "triggers" either a sample of a bass drum or some sort of electronic sound. either way, the sound usually sounds little like an actual bass drum, especially when the trigger sets off EXACTLY the same sound every time. i undertsnad the benefits, clarity-wise, but its definitely second best to a proper bass drum imo.
@TheRippingCorpse, if you saw Death with Carcass then it wasn't the Human line-up. Death-Pestilence-Carcass was in 90 supporting Spiritual Healing. then in 91 it was Death-Pestilence-Viogression supporting Human with Sean and Paul. I have shows from both tours here on youtube.
Que importante que hayan quedado estos registros. Complementan muy bien el Human álbum en el que varios detalles de las líneas de batería que son magistrales no se aprecian tan bien como en estos videos.
@brunthroath6912 Umm... actually I think I made a mistake. The tweet actually said "A Handel Concerto Grosso", it didn't specify which one. I just said that one because I didn't realise there was more than one, and it was the first one that came up in a TH-cam search :| So it could be any other Handel Concerto Grosso. Sorry :|
@SeanSitka I'm sure it was. It was in England - Manchester to be exact. For some reason Pestilence didn't play but I do remember Viogression playing. Death went on really late for some reason.
Are you Keffer? I used to play bass in your basement with a gas fitter and a cold sounding guy a while back. Your niece had a nice sounding name? You had a pious mate with a hearse? I went on tour with you and played football in the snow in Austria against Satyr and he cried because we were English and boss at kicking fuck out of everyone? Making Bobbies. Pills. Don't use my real name if you know me, I'm wanted to fuck.
@brunthroath6912 Actually, according to @tprclassical on Twitter, it's Handel's Concerto Grosso in D Minor. So yes, it is a baroque piece. Bach and Vivaldi were good guesses, but not quite spot on.
