      A legit possibility could be that maybe if the degasi crashed close enough to where the aurora crashed then maybe since the reapers are larger and can last longer against radiation since it was "just a leak" it could be that reapers in that area adapted to the radiation the degasi may have gave off when it crashed, therefore the reapers in that reigon adapted to the radiation and when the aurora arrived then it didn't affect them.

    Water is actually an excellent radiation blocker, even a few cm can massively reduce the dose. So 20+ metres between the aurora and the leviathans is probably plenty to shield them from the radiation.

The dose might not be enough to instantly kill you but it might be enough to give you cancer and kill you in some months or years so the game might kill you at that point. Or probably cause the creatures are more resistent than humans to radiation. Most likely just a game design choice.

    My theory is a combination of 3 theories:
    Part of their survival is the fact that water is an exceptional radiation blocker, a few centimeters of it can drastically cut down the dose (i heard this from another comment.) another part is that its just a leak. The drive core was damaged, not destroyed (this part is from the video.) and the part i came up with: (from what i know) a radiation dose will be less fatal the bigger the creature, which is why there is barely any small lifeforms.

    My theory is that the reapers are a highly adaptable species and once the aurora crashed, the reaper realized the area is devoid of other lifeforms to prey on, the only other ones being the ampeel which are very hard to make a meal out of. the reaper then was able to develop a trait that went into effect in a matter of hours after the crash that allowed the reaper to feed off of radiation.

    Another possibility: The Degasi Crash
    The Degasi might crash between the floating island and the crash zone existed. They might be not classified as leviathans but since the Degasi crash possibly emits radiation, they took advantage and use it as their energy source, causing them to grow in massive size. That might be the reason why reaper leviathans are strong, but worse than the sea dragon leviathan.

    Funnilly enough, there have been studies on topics similar to this. Scientists and biologists studied whales and incredibly large creatures in an effort to find out about their supposed immunity to cancer. What they found is that while they still have 'cancer' they have so much biomass that smaller pockets of different types of cancer will tend to consume each other, effectively removing themselves from the creature without any work necessary. Very interesting stuff!

    I thought that it was empty because it used to be a breeding ground for various leviathan types around the planet, and the Aurora just crashes during the reaper’s mating/Egg laying season, larger creatures have larger and thicker skin meaning they can probably take the radiation for a lot longer, The low population of other creatures may be too small to sustain a adult reaper leviathan but it may be the perfect amounts for a newborn, perhaps similar to Bear’s, just before hibernation leviathans (or at least the reaper variety) bulk up on food before the season.

  • @silentneon4809
    @silentneon4809 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    the aliens could’ve emitted some sort of radiation before the aurora crash landed and since that was a big time gap the reapers could’ve had an evolution to make them resistant to radiation (just a thought)

    I know this is an old video but my theory is maybe the kharaa infection had some sort of radiation-resistant property, and whoever caught the disease could survive a large amount of rads. You see, the bacteria was on the planet for hundreds of thousands of years, and in this large amount of time, it gave the creatures who were swimming in the stuff said properties. the reason Riley isn't resistant is because he was only recently infected, and hasn't had time to acquire all of the symptoms.

  • @SirSkittle

    I think the reapers where attracted to the area because they sense vibrations or whatever,right? That’s why they are in the dunes, a meteor crashed there, that’s why there in the mountains, vents and the big boy gun. And that’s why they where in the crash zone, because the aroura had a hard and loud landing. I think their skin protects them from radiation. And I’m pretty sure that all leviathans make their own version of enzyme 42, and that’s how Margaret survived when she was afloat, she ate the reaper while on their way to below zero area, and she was cured by the enzyme in the reapers.

  • @greenv0lt
    @greenv0lt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I like the ideas in the video, however I feel like a lack of enzyme 42 would be unlikely, because there are alien arches and vents in both the Crag Field and Bulb Zone, both bordering the Crash Zone, so peepers should be able to get there relatively easily. Great theories!

  • @glyph__
    @glyph__ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So my theory goes as follows:
    It is known that the peepers trailing the enzyme keep the animals alive and safe from Kharaa, but we also know that a reaper's favorite snack, even more than a player, is a peeper. This could mean that the reason its so bleak is cuz peepers arent able to make it there to spread the enzyme, due to the reapers. Its canon that reapers are immune to the kharaa, as evidence by a degasi voice log where Bart Torgal notes that the reapers are unaffected by the disease. Im not sure about sand sharks, which can also be found in the crash zone, but it could be assumed that with the reapers killing all other lifeforms, and not attacking the sharks, that it mightve effectlively created a quarantine area for them to live. Also look at the dunes, which are just as vacant when it comes to life, and guess where you kind find even more reapers than the crash zone?
    The fish honestly might be immune, but ofc the pda has no way of knowing, so it tells you that it could have a negative effect on the ecosystem. It also just might affect flora, or microorganisms that a lot of the creatures live off of, such as the ghost and reefback leviathans. As for the theory that the volcano forced this immunity, i dont think it holds, as gamma radiation is different than thermal radiation in almost eveery way except that it causes heat. There is bacteria that is naturally resistant to gamma radiation, which could lead one to believe that the organisms on 4546b are born with the same resistance to gamma radiation as this bacteria.

    i know another possibility. There is a time capsule that you can find and other bases that are run down, so maybe another Aurora type ship crashed causing them to adapt to it.

    I think that it's because the reapers are much bigger, and alot bulkier then you are. So the radiation kills you, but leaves the reapers relatively unharmed. Think of it like animal born diseases. Tuberculosis to cows is like the common cold, but to us it's much deadlier. There also may have been some sort of large uranium deposit near the crash zone before the Aurora even got there, meaning the Reapers would evolve to handle high amounts of radiation.

    I believe they survive because you're not supposed to be there, you can go there. But you can't do anything until the big boom. I believe that's when reapers go there. Not when the crash happened as there was multiple Loud sounds. I believe in lore, everything came there right after the big boom

    If you manage to scan the reaper leviathan, the pda scan will say that the reaper is made mostly of muscle. Due to the cells that make up muscle this means that muscle is NOT radiation resistant. (Trust google). The reaper leviathan’s skin could be the reason why the massive beast doesn’t just keel over and die. The skin could be dense witch would be another reason why it takes 50+ slashes of a thermal knife to kill this leviathan. (I counted). Due to the density of the skin this could be the reason the reaper leviathan doesn’t die. But of corse a lot of the time games don’t need an explanation to make them fun. If they did then speedy wouldn’t be posting this amazing video. If you ask me the more less things are explained the more fun they are. ( like with goat simulator’s wack physics, they just make the game fun, not accurate at all. Maybe the developers just didn’t think about this question. Just because this topic exists doesn’t make the game less fun. The game is perfect and doesn’t need an explanation for it to be fun. You always look at the gargantuan leviathan skeletal remains and don’t think “how did it get here”. You get a sense of shock at the size. (Speedy if you read this it might be a decent video topic). The topic, time and effort in these questions and videos is always appreciated. None the less, thank you for the amazing content, and keep up the good work. 👌👌

    I’m pretty sure the reapers are attracted to noise, which makes sense why there in the mountains, crash zone, and dunes, dunes has a lot of wrecks and there’s that meteor from a long time ago, which most likely means the dunes could be the ancient home of the reapers, QEP shooting Aurora probably brought reapers there, and the aurora crashing was like a hotspot. Without watching the video yet, i think it’s probably because they’re so big or they eat lead

  • @_-NatureMations-_
    @_-NatureMations-_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think maybe the pre-cursors made Reaper leviathans after the Degasi crashed on the planet to suck up radiation. They are only found in places near Electricity/Radiation/Ion-power, so this could explain why they live in those places. Eventually they started breeding though, and things got out of hand when the Pre-cursors were no longer there.

    Aside from the just a game answer, radiation poisoning takes a long and painful amount of time for those exposed to pass. Length of exposure also does shorten the time.
