  • After Driving the Mini GP3 for 1000 Miles, what do I actually think to this car? Is it good? Is it quick? Would I recommend it? Do I love it? Is it good value for money? So many questions! I attempt to answer them on the drive to work.
As you’ve probably guessed from watching some of my other videos, this is a very very good car! It is fast, reliable, fairly efficient and economical and still manages to get a smile from people when they see it!
Have any of you bought one of these? If so, let me know in the comments!
As always hope everyone is safe and well.

    Hi
I have just placed a deposit on a gp3 as a second car for a bit of fun around Scotland only issue is I haven’t been able to test drive it as it’s 400 miles away and I am hoping it lives up to my expectations, thanks for your intensive reviews as this is easing my mind.
There are a lot of car mag reviews which are all over the place with opinions so as you are a genuine owner I take on board your views
    Cheers but anxious
    Ricky

Just fitted a JCW suede steering wheel to mine. Looks great, absorbs some of the harshness and is much grippier than the leather wheel. I have now done 600 miles. Superb car!

My best MINI ever, the car is amazing.

Love the Mini. I’m about to upgrade to a JCW from my first car which is just a One. Can’t wait to pick it up. The GP was a stretch too far insurance wise at 21. The JCW will no doubt be more than enough though. Like a kid in a sweet shop every time I think about it. Great to see it’s still so much fun and appreciated by someone like yourself with the likes of an SV & a Pista, makes me feel like I’m getting a seriously cool car when you’re mentioning a Mini in the same breath as those. Keep the content coming, Phil. It’s a daily fix of mine now, especially when it involves the Mini, it’s certainly helping to pass the time/wait!

I've got a 2016 JCW and I drive the Porsche guys nuts on the track because I can carry so much more corner entry speed. Yes they leave on the straights but you're right back on their arse in the corners. It's a great anf fun car to drive. You'll have a lot of fun.

Super, more GP3 content.... please keep it coming.
I went out in my Cooper S and I put my foot down and my hubster had a right go at me. He is such a grumpy old man, almost Victor Meldrew 😁 I have noticed the torque steer on mine once I stomp my foot down but my car makes me grin too. I actually think if I had a GP3 I would kill myself. Yours is an absolutely gorgeous machine. Gone are the days of anyone comparing these modern BMW Mini's with the classic Mini's. These days they just need to be seen as a 'baby BMW'.

Im glad you’re liking it! Im still waiting to hear from my dealership about mine :(, I’m shocked at the customer service around this one, making me think about canceling, but I’m not to sure yet what to do.
Their like little go karts! Are you going to be tuning it once you’ve hit 1000 miles?

These are growing on me.....I do think it's a bit of a shame Mini didn't up the power a little over the Clubman/Countryman JCW's and didn't go proper wide body (In place of those silly wheel arch extensions) but it is very cool.
I think relative to what is available at the moment it is good value....but only because everything else that comes close is so expensive. I dont think it's a 37 grand car but it's like saying I dont think a spec'd A45S is a 60k car...same difference. Car prices just have gotten daft....what was a 20k car 10/15 years ago is 30+ now...just daft.
For far less money just buy a well used facelift R53, not particularly reliable, nothing like as fast (stock at least) and thirsty but superb to drive and a similar sense of occasion with the SC whine and popping and banging from the exhaust. A future classic in the making right there.

As a fellow GP3 owner I agree with all of your comments, it is a fantastic car to drive and definitely makes it a fun drive... I think the torque steer if anything increases the excitement and makes it involving to drive... what's your thoughts on the exhaust? I know you raised it in an earlier video about needing a bit more, which I agree with... to the point I've been looking at aftermarket cat back systems to give it that little bit more... my only other complaint which I think is also something you've mentioned is the stereo, whilst I know its meant to be a track car so not the ultimate lux vehicle, so the stereo isn't meant to be the be all and end all, but it does need that little bit more, sounds a bit "tinny".
Are you thinking of any mods/tunning to this? I've ordered lighter spec wheels for mine for trackways/summer driving, plus the exhaust for me and I think that's all it needs doing..

Love a good hot hatch! Would like to try the GP3 it’s right up my street. It might cost more than a normal
Mini but it’s not built to be cheap, a lot of time, effort and engineering has gone into it.

Calvin Meek yep superb cars, very much a fun car. Doesn’t need to be driven on the edge, good noise.

Had mine up to 270km/h on the German autobahn - incredible how smooth it is, first trembling in the steering wheel is felt after 255km/h

The 918 looks like it’s sold, what happened as we never got an update?
The mini is not my cup of tea, I’d personally buy something used that was around the same price if I had the choice

Very surprised. From videos we can see the suspension is rock hard. But again- you praise the seats....
Seems like the gp3 doesn't send you to chiropractic within hours like some cars with rock hard suspension do.

This might be the last GP ever made due to the push of electric cars. I think it will hold more value than you think.

I do like the car but to me hot hatches should be cheap and cheerful everyman cars. I mean look at the A45 amg, £60k speced, it's just too much. I think the car finance industry bears a lot of the blame for this and with the economic consequences of Covid to emerge I think we're in line for an adjustment.

I have just sold my gp1 after 14 years ownership and my gp2 after 4 years ownership and believe me the gp3 eats both of the previous GPs it is an animal in comparison. Wish I could have all 3 GPs but needs must. The gp3 is probably the ugliest of the 3 GPs on the outside but on the inside the gp3 is stunning.
This car will out run other fast cars 3 times it’s price so to me is a bargain purchase.
