I cannot thank you enough for the teaching video! Instead of opening from the top, I opened the unit from the side with the stuck cartridge-only four screws to deal with! When I pushed the black piece under the cartridges to the back, I was able to move the unit to the left and there was the broken gear off the rod. I won’t lie. It took three attempts to insert the replacement gear, but as was stated in the video, it was so satisfying when the gears engaged and the roller turned. Thank you, thank you for the education and motivation to fix the printer. It is under 2 years old and for the price of the gears it is operational again!
OMG! I am sooo grateful. It is April 2024. I have this new printer. I have a huge deadline. The HP manual didn't tell me what to do when the paper is stuck inside like you show. Panic Time! You save the day. Thank you!!!!!
This made my repair so much easier. Thank you! My gear was in 2 pieces. Scanner cord was too short so it had to remain connected on the left side. The left side of the inner cover, I could not disconnect the display screen cord so it was a balancing act. There was a piece of plastic making it difficult to wedge the gear into place. As you said, patience was key to getting it slid in and on securely. I followed the direction on the gear, soaking it in hot water for 3 minutes before installing. I appreciate you making this video, thank you again.
Fabulous tutorial, I was able to easily diagnose the broken pf gear ($12 on Amazon), and then every step for removal and replacement. The only thing I would add is that the instructions with the new gear said to soak it in hot water (coffee temperature) for 2-3 minutes to soften it to allow it to go on easier, beware it really softens it, be careful not to damage the gear when it's warm. It then said after putting it back together wait 15 minutes for before using it to allow the gear to cool and harden back up. Worked like a champ. Thank you for the video.
great tutorial I have the hp 9015e and I didn't want to buy a new one just yet. I saw your video and yes it was a broken gear. So, I bought the gear and the T10 screwdriver. This was a gamble but well worth it. It took me a while to take apart the printer, but I did it. Changing the gear was easy as compared to putting it back together again. But with a little patience I was able to succeed. Thank you so much
You guys rock! With this video, parts ordered from your website, and very little swearing, I was able to replace the cracked gear with a new one. Thanks for the video and explanation.
Kevin, this video was perfect! So much better than the useless info at HP with their reboots and unplugs, blah blah blah. Using your video I was able to purchase the gear from BCH and get the Torx bits needed (who has a T6 on-hand if you don't repair printers. Thats tiny). I'll be using your video as my step by step guide to disassembly, replacement, and re-assembly. I also watched another similar video of yours where you and Amy repaired the same issue on a 9025 (seems HP has a reoccurring issue with this series) and her suggestion to warm the gear in hot water to make it go on easier should prove useful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and helping others out, If I were closer to NC, I'd just bring it to you and have you fix it but 1000 miles is a long way to go to fix a $100 printer.
Nice video. I was able to replace the gear and all is well. Thank you for taking the time to make the video and helping others get their printer back online!
Excellent, helpful video. That tiny, white gear was broken in mine as well. I may not get the printer back together again so that it works, but now at least I know what happened. (I hate it when something breaks/malfunctions and I don’t know why.)
Hi! I did all what you are showing in your video and found out that my printer has the exact same problem. I called HP and they said they can’t sell that broken part alone. Would you know if I can find it somewhere ?
I solved my HP officejet pro 9015e jammed carriage in less than 5 minutes...I took the poorly designed junk printer straight to the recycle bin and bought a brother. I have owned many HP printers and have finally learned their printers are unreliable and fail quickly. People who work on these printers will tell you HP printers are poorly designed.
Thank you for the tip. I had the same problem (ink block not moving). I poWer off, remove part of the plastic cart (just on the right to get away the ink block), pulled off the ink block as you show, poWer on and put it back (no problem of damaged part)
This video was great, gear is replaced. Problem now is nothing is coming into the paper when it goes through the full motion of "printing." I am guess i didnt connect one of the ribbon wires fully?? But i dont want to push too hard and break something. Am i correct about what i didn't do?
Thank you for this video. Put the new PB gear in, restarted the printer and it worked but the screen is blank. Any suggestions before I take it apart to diagnose the problem?
Hey, i had the same problem and following your instructions I found the broken gear and replaced it (thanks!). But now, the colour doesn’t work and it prints with horizontal lines (there are also some strange noises at start up)… any suggestions??
Hello, I feel the need to post a comment. I just spent a week dismantling my HP 9010 printer to replace the gear head as described in this video. It wasn't easy, but can be done. The problem I had was the replacement gears purchased by BCH Technologies all broke immediately also. I tried 5 of them. They are suggesting you soak them in steaming hot water first, which I did. They all broke. Two broke after I spent hours putting the printer back together. Please please please don't waste your time. I was determined to fix it, but the replacement gear is not made with the proper plastic. God Bless all those who don't want to be a part of a throw away society, but I don't think this is fixable. It's a shame. It was a great printer.
BCH Technologies has recently apparently (Sept 2023?) changed from the black material to a new, more durable white gear material like the oem gear. The new gear came with instructions to heat the gear before assembly in hot (cup of coffee temperature) water for a few minutes, assemble and to then let cool and set for 12 hours before use. I did precisely this and it worked quite well. And, yes, as in the narrative, it felt really good when the gear was finally in place.
As some others mentioned below, I replaced the gear successfully, but then when I reassembled everything, the LCD display no longer works. Do you know how to fix that? Thank you!
there's a ribbon cable behind the screen. it detaches from the motherboard. you need plugging it in before assembling the big grey bracket that holds the lcd
My printer showed error: "The print carriage cannot move. Open the cartridge access door, and clear any paper jam or obstruction" As I was checking all obstructions, I pulled the white tape which moves along the printing head and broke it. Any leads how I can get the tape fixed. 😢
Same thing happened to my printer. I ordered two gears so that I have a spare. While waiting for the gear. I tried running the printer without the gear and it works. Prints the same without the gear.
I have the same error, and a lot of noise from the printer, but I opened my OfficeJet and that gear is perfectly good. What else might cause that error? Oh and there are 9 silver screws + 5 black, in total with the side cover and back cover. Nice video though, thanks.
White gears are nylon this new black gear is worse. Very brittle and will break everytime. Hot water makes them worse! teeth will break right off! Try a small file to open up hole just slightly is your best chance.

You need to get out more. I understood all of the narrative perfectly. Tune your ear and brain by engaging more with people of different origins that also speak English. The national language of India is English yet the well-tuned ear of many Indian-born persons can actually distunguish precisely which area of India a person comes from...136 different languages spoken in India. I have difficulty understanding many English speakers from England, the home of English, but improved my abilities by associating more with people from England. Country music singers in the USA all speak or sing with a twang that is barely comprehensible. Personally, I loved and understood well the instructions and the humor spoken by the narrator in the video and completed the job successfully in one afternoon after the part arrived.
Sir, you have a problem. Go and find someone who you can understand better or bring your device to HP for repair so they can communicate with your wallet. In the meantime try to be friendly and do not judge if someone want to help. This video was helpfull
Much better information than what the official HP website states: "turn it off and on", lol! Awesome, thanks so much!
I cannot thank you enough for the teaching video!

Hi, where were the four screws that you removed to take off just the side panel?

Thank you Kevin, this video plus a gear saved my parents $250 for a new printer. Also any engineer will love from about 3:45 on.

This was exactly my problem with a 9015e. PFG cracked after a year and a half. Got a new gear coming from BCH. Thanks Kevin!
Nice video. I was able to replace the gear and all is well. Thank you for taking the time to make the video and helping others get their printer back online!
thank you. you helped me to fix mine. took 1 hour.
however, despite vigorous shaking the printer the cracked gear was nowhere to be found.
Watched your video and spotted the shaft turning without turning the gear. Thanks!
where do you get the replacement gears?
Excellent video. Followed along and got the printer apart, and found the same broken gear. Part will be here in a few days.
Thank you, Kevin. your information is helpful. My printer got fixed
Many thanks for your very helpful video. Printer up and running again! Thank you Kevin & BCH Tech! 🏆
Thank you for posting this. Great voice-over, too!
Thank you very much, from Spain! Found the same problem on my HP 9010e and it was the broken gear in my case too. Hope to get this gear somewhere.😃
Thank you, it saved my printer. All working fine after installing this. Clear video.
Excellent, helpful video. That tiny, white gear was broken in mine as well. I may not get the printer back together again so that it works, but now at least I know what happened. (I hate it when something breaks/malfunctions and I don’t know why.)

Ty for video! Just got part ordered. Be glad to get the printer working w fairly minimal experience w printers. Keep doing what you're doing!

There’s way more screws. Some in the back as well.
3 screws at back on 9014
This video was great, gear is replaced. Problem now is nothing is coming into the paper when it goes through the full motion of "printing." I am guess i didnt connect one of the ribbon wires fully?? But i dont want to push too hard and break something. Am i correct about what i didn't do?

Figured it out. Ribbon cable for screen became unplugged. Working perfect
Thank you Kevin ❤

is there a gear for an 8720 ?
This is my exact problem. How do i get a new gear?
So helpful! Thanks!
Thank you for posting this video. Where do you purchase another PF disk?

THESE GEARS ARE TOTAL GARBAGE. I BROKE 3 OF THEM! HOT WATER MAKES IT EVEN WORSE!

Will the broken white gear also cause a “paper jam” error message being that the ink carriage is unable to slide left (or right)?
As some others mentioned below, I replaced the gear successfully, but then when I reassembled everything, the LCD display no longer works. Do you know how to fix that? Thank you!

@iddqds thanks! Same thing happened to me. I figured something simply came disconnected.
My printer showed error: "The print carriage cannot move. Open the cartridge access door, and clear any paper jam or obstruction"

Where can i buy this black gear? Can anyone please send a link?
Thank you for this video was really helpful
My carriage does move on its own but still get that error mag ?
Omg!! Love the video. Have the same problem you made easy for me
Replaced the gear (HP 9025) was fairly easy, carriage moves ok now, but grinding noise and "paper Jam"...... ???????
What a helpful video. Thnx 🙏🏽. Where did you bought the replacement gear? Cuz I have the same problem. And HP told me they don’t have the gear!!!!
someone on ebay from germany sels it.. title of the item is "Gear Wheel 17 Teeth for HP Officejet Pro 9010 9020 Drive Pinion Sprocket FT"
Thank you, mine is broken also! Now for sourcing the spare part in The Netherlands.
Go to bchtechnologies.com. It’s in the description. That’s where I got my parts for my 9025. Took 3 days to get the parts via Priority.
We did it in France recently. Had to order from the US, but it got here quickly
You made my day!!!
How to donate via paypal???
Excellent ... well done ...
nice job documenting this.
You are my hero!
Thank you so much!!!
I have the same error, and a lot of noise from the printer, but I opened my OfficeJet and that gear is perfectly good. What else might cause that error? Oh and there are 9 silver screws + 5 black, in total with the side cover and back cover. Nice video though, thanks.
is this for real? like this is the fix?
Tidak bisa membuka bagian atas, apa yang harus dilakukan?
Superb
You couldve been alot more specific with the assembly bro

Yes i know. The new white gear fits perfect. No need to use any hot water. Just push it on.@@donmago
Can we agree that this printer is shite?
