Castle Crashers: A Retrospective Look at a Forgotten Game

- Almost 15 years ago, a masterpiece was made. Castle Crashers is a game that was popular on the Xbox 360 many years ago, and contributes to the nostalgia felt by the gamers of that era. Nowadays however, the game is not talked about much. Today, I'd like to revisit this forgotten gem of a game, in the hopes of not only reminding people of it, but also bringing it to a new audience who were not a part of the Xbox 360 era.

Don't forget the best part of the multi-player. The fight to the death with tour friends to kiss the princess.
Mann I miss this ga!e :(
Vv❤
HAVE YOU NO MAIDENS!?
I get to fuck the princess
wish I could beat the bad guys to kiss the hot knight
this game was my childhood
Same my dad loved this game and I played it with him and my brother, it was so fun man!
Same my childhood with thus game is too good
The best game ever
I'm playing right now
Never forget this game ever brother
It's CRIMINAL that we never got more Castle Crashers.
The amount of time that goes in to making flappy birds nevermind the best game oat makes u want to never make another game again
the story was subtly continued in battleblock. the hat is possessed by the wizard
I dedicated a whole summer to finish this game. Pure nostalgia.
Whole summer my ass, game is like 3 hours long
@@DiamondEpic9319 No, Beat it once normally, Then Insane mode, Then unlock all the characters so you need to beat it with a bunch of characters, Get all the pets and weapons, Beat all the Arenas too.
@WSPRNG Yeah, I know because I've done it. Still doesn't take a whole summer, lol
@@DiamondEpic9319 it's not gonna take 3 hours though.
@tabbris if your goal is JUST to beat normal mode the game literally takes like 3 hours
Spent a whole summer trying to beat the game on all characters in insane mode. I’m proud to say I haven’t gotten bored of the game. I’ve been playing for a strong 9 years.
Jeez, how far did you get in that attempt? I had a majority of the characters unlocked and beat the game with a good number of them but my main was the orange knight and furthest I got on Insane was the necromancer fight. No matter how well it was going, I'd always end up getting hit by /something/, and I'd be fucked lmao. So close but so far. Enemy health pools on Insane are just something else lmfao
@@zeroethsort1071same place I got my Green knight stuck. The swamps as Green knight were agony
Pro tip: in the corn boss when the corn goes underground if u stand next to the villagers the corn will come up and damage them, then they will help you with the fight
This game was my jam when I was younger. Jeez thinking about this game makes me feel old.
Same here 😔
Another banger! Castle Crasher and Battleblock Theater were legendary games!
Yeah I’ll definitely make a video on Battle Block too
Literally REAL
Plus Alien Hominid
Dad”n”me?
Pit people?
I played this game ALL the time non-stop. My dad may be into new beat 'em up games, but old beat 'em ups in the 2000s like Scott Pilgrim, Phantom Breaker, and this game are still stuck in me. I cannot tell you how much I still love playing this game after all these years, from 2010 all the way to 2023.
me and my dad played all of those plus charlie murder, just bought castle crashers on pc so we can run it back 15 years later haha
Dude I couldn’t beat Scott Pilgrim. I was six but it was so hard on the later levels!!!I got to go back and play again soon
This peak can NOT be forgotten
glad to see that someone remembers this game, back then this was my favorite game and still is today
THIS WAS THE BEST GAME WHEN YOU ARE YOUNG. It was such a button mash game and addicting. I had almost all my characters maxed out. Glad others enjoyed this absolute masterpiece 🤟🏼❤️
Remember falling in love with this game around 5 - 6 now im 13 and still play it.
Edit: necromancer theme is best theme, winter bliss comes 2nd.
I loved this game so much that I beat it on both Xbox and PC
BattleBlock Theater is easily the most underrated game
ON GOD BRO
My dad showed my brother and me this game and gave us his account where he only ever progressed with blue knight to level 20-30. We loved it growing up, with me maining blue knight and finishing leveling him up and my brother maining green before switching to industrialist. Super fun and I still play today. Banger music, too. Both the og and remastered versions are great with cool minigames. I'd love a Castle Crashers 2..This video makes me happy seeing the game is remembered, so thank you.
This was the best childhood game I ever played
"and there goes the sock puppet, never to be addressed again"
check the Cyclops rematch, the dragons skeleton is there along with the sock
how many people dont realize that the sock puppet is the dragon. He has it on his other hand. Also great video this game is in my top 5 for life.
Just picked this up for switch recently and what a hidden gem, it’s still well worth your time and a fun co op experience I highly recommend..
😂🎉🎉😂❤❤❤❤😂😢❤❤❤😂❤❤😂😢😂

Good to see people talking about this game, The behemoth is so underrrated all their games are fire but castle crashers has to be the best one
You can totally tell this video was a labor of love for you and a treat for everyone who watches it. Thank you for your this 👍
It did take quite a long time but it was one of my favorite videos I’ve ever made, so I’m glad so many others have enjoyed it ❤️
i like how he used simple sight/piercing laser/necromancer theme for the music i think its the best song out of the ost
Still remember playing it for the first time on my 360. Such an awesome game.
Crazy quality for a smaller channel glad this blew up for you
7:53 so glad you mentioned this masterpiece
Quick Correction - Animal orbs aren't locked behind a level barrier
It goes by wether you've picked them up or not.
Example : my friend played for the first time and joined my lobby so all the animals were in their spots but he couldn't pick them up since he never found them in their respective levels.
Also fun fact : You don't even need the magic jump to unlock the orange cat jn the animal shelter, you just gotta keep jump attacking til you reach the ceiling.
I never really played this game until recently with a couple of friends of mine and it's so much fun I swear to god.
Never knew everyone who played this when they were young also did stuff like catfish boat slam and the animation glitch with the big guy
This game has got to be one of my favorites, I'm so very happy that someone else on this platform is bringing more attention to it
one of the few games me and my dad used to always play together, from when i was like 5 all the way to now i still main the beekeeper
I can't describe with words the happiness I get when people acknowledge this game. I am so glad my childhood was in hands of The Behemoth. Castle Crashers is so good, and I was so excited when the remaster got released.
I remember playing this with my cousins, it was so fun, I always played the purple knight because he was cool, I got it the remastered version on steam, loved every second of it.
the first video game i ever played. Im still playing this game. I love it so much
The max agility arrow comparison to an assault rifle is so spot on hilarious
Great video man! I’ve put way more hours into this game than I’d like to admit 😅 Would love to see a follow up video covering insane mode. That mode really tests your patience at times ☠️
That video is definitely in my plans for future videos
i cant stress how important it is to have volume on, the soundtrack on this game is so insane
This was my first game i ever played so many good memories thats why i immediately clicked on this great vid keep up the good work!!!
One point I'd like to add to this is that Castle Crashers is also really fun in Co-op. I played it with my siblings growing up.
ITS BEEN 15 YEARS? i still play from time to time thats how good it is. 10/10 childhood game
This game is a frickin classic! I love playing it with my arcade stick now, but I used to play it with my brother when he was still alive, it brings back great memories. Just drinking beer and playing this hours on end! ❤️
I love this game and I love you for making a half an hour vid about it.
This game was legendary. I remember whenever I go to my grandma's house, I would go on the old PS3 and hop on it. I never had the full game, but the demo was enough to fill my entertainment all day. It's so nostalgic and fun, the music is awesome, the gameplay and story is pretty awesome too, and I always chose the green poison knight. I haven't played it in 2 years, I wish I had it.
EDIT: 3/25/24 I GOT CASTLE CRASHERS REMASTERED ON MY PLAYSTATION 4! THE FULL GAME!!
I hate you why are you exactly the same as how I was
Bro i still play this game. I started in 2015 and it was my favorite game ever.
First time watching this dude and honestly, 10/10 you’re awesome! I really liked this video and I’ll definitely watch more of your other content. Thank you.
bro i still play this as one of my fav games w my lil bros
this video supplied me with a healthy amount of sizable chuckles. i appreciate it.
I never forgot this game. It has a entire part of my brain dedicated to it
I loved this game as a kid and I still play the remastered version with my siblings and my baby brother absolutely loves and adore this game and whenever I get home from school he always shouts crashers great game wish they made a sequel
This moment when he turned on the necromancer music, i couldn't hold it and started fucking dancing, and i know that you couldn't either
I have so much nostalgia playing this game with my brother when we were younger. Man was it awesome to find it on psn for ps4.
My theory about why the game is so replayable is because every moment of the game is unique. Unique enemies on every level, wildly unique boss fights, mechanics used literally only once (like stuff seen in the chase, river and carriage ride). It’s chaotic, and that makes it beautiful.
Doing the final bosses with friends was an experience I'll never forget. Only experiences in gaming that come close is the Festival level in Mario Odyssey or the warthog run in Halo 3.
the amount of nostalgia I got from this video is insane
I might replay it, I remember it to be so fun to play with friends
I’d recommend giving it a replay, but try get some friends to do it with you too. It was always more fun that way
This was my first game ever played.i played it when i was 3 and only played the tut for whole 2 years.eventually,my father came to visit us and bought the whole game and i came back from kindergarten when i was 5.my sister was on the console and told me she has beaten the barbaric boss.as soon as my sister was done playing i immediatly hopped on and played.i didnt have the dlc dor ps3 but i played with silver knight because he looked cool haha.then, years later 2017 i got my switch and bought castle crashers 2019.it was so nostalgic and i realized i had the other knights and didnt need to buy a dlc.i was so happy.now im 14 and still playing.i still dont have the golden skull on ny knight but who cares?the games still fun
You forgot 1 thing about insane industrial, some enemies have a sword that can crit dealing 999 damage, even if you have the highest health possible it nearly insta-kills you thats insane
This game was my intro to games on console and still have so many fond memories of trying to beat this with friends, ice knight maxed magic lol
I used to play this game with one of my good friends on his 360 and I still play it to this day it’s still a lot of fun
8:21 ahh yes. Geometry dash AND that iconic rupture rage clip
ive always put castle crashers and BattleBlock in my favorites on steam, ive put hundreds of hours when i was 4 or 6. im glad that the game is still remembered to this day
This is one of my all time favorite games, played it originally on the xbox arcade, then went to the Switch and now I also have it on PC. Working on getting some more of the characters on the PC because some of the unlockable characters are super fun to play
anyone else notice the little trees air freshener in the ufo?
This was my childhood game, I got it again 2 days ago because of this video
this was my fav game as a child and i was feeling trying it again and omg i still love it
The game is really good on the 360 Xbox and the game holds a special place in my heart I grow up with this game and rip old castlecrashers
I still play it every other week, still my favorite game of all time.
Still playing this game at least twice a week to this day. And it’s still very active on ps5 and xbox series x
Bro, I remembered those times. I seen a few Castle Crasher gameplays back then (when I still had my 360).
I HAD NO IDEA YOU COULD BLOCK THE LAZERS FROM THE GIANT! Ive played this game dozens of times and i assumed that the giant lazer cant be blocked.
Helpful information 😂
I played this game so much back then, that I know strats to make npcs helps you.
Example: In the corn fight, If u make the corn attack the 2 guys there by standing next to them and making the corn hit them, they will help you
I was playing this game when I saw this video and I still love it it’s amazing!
Castle Crashers & Scott Pilgrim vs The World are some of my favorite games from the PS3/Xbox One Era
Never got the chance to play it, but it's definitely on my priority list now. Great video!
The aliens were actually a reference to their first game ever, which is "Alien Hominid".
During the corn boss fight, if you get the boss to attack the peasants, they’ll fight for you
Played this not even an hour ago. Game deserves more love.
I never had any xbox but I enjoy this game on my computer
The sandwich in this game made me think it was a team fortress 2 reference since heavy has a line that says "sandwich makes me strong"
Broo the memories coming back
Currently replaying this classic and I'm still learning new things like I didn't know you could shield the laser beam from the giant hairball.
Man i never forgot castle crashers, I used to be #9 on the CCR arena leaderboard
Man I loved this game when I got it on Xbox 360😊
I wouldn’t consider castle crashes one of the main parts of my child hood, but it was definitely a pretty decent chunk, I never actually owned the game though so I only played the demo, but even then I still had a great time playing the game.
My wife had this downloaded randomly when we plugged the Xbox 360 back in. Was so much damn fun to go through together.
Loved playing this on Xbox 360. Just bought it on steam recently to play through nostalgia on pc
castle crashers has been and will always be one of my favorite games ever
Fun fact, I started insane mode on the Xbox in like 2013 or a few years after that…I didn’t get past the troll mother boss in insane mode until like 2021 while playing the remastered version.
Bro this was one of my favorite games of all time, orange knight for the win!!!
I remember playing this with my uncle in 2015ish and I just recently found it again and it was pure nostalgia
My little brother still plays this game:) (we first played this game in 2017)
i used to stay up all night beating this game over and over again.
this game was my childhood as well, I miss the old retro style, and I can't event find a duo to play this with, thats always fun
this is one of those games you gotta replay at least once per year
Me and my brother used to just sit down and beat the whole game in one day, the good old days man
My childhood I still play this game 😭😭
Showed this game to my little cousins when they came over for a party one day like 3 months ago?? And they all fell in love with it, made me happy to see them actually enjoying a game I liked a lot as a kid
ahhhh this is so nostalgiac, i played this game so much as a kid
You just gave me so much nostalgia😂
I still play this amazing game.
