17:40 there is still some vocabulary to learn: In the trial (the hearing in a low court to judge whether a person is guilty of a crime), we forgot to mention the plaintiff who issued (accused legally) the defendant (who is assumed to be guilty of a crime). Then, the jury will deliberate to come to a verdict. If either of the litigants (plaintiff or defendant) is in disagreement with the verdict, they might appeal against it (apply to a higher court for a reversal of the decision of a lower court). Hope you find it useful for basic law stuff 😊
Well, criminals usually begin commiting shoplifting and misdemeanors. Unfortunetly, some of them go deeper. They kidnap, mug, carjacking, burgler and then they see the way with no return. @@papateachme I'm from Indonesia. It's technically a democratic country, but the vast majority of population are muslims so some of the laws are rooted in islamic doctrines. We've been having blasphemy law for a long time, but it became truly a thing in the digital era. Because anybody who said or did anything that could be considered remotely blasphemous by some people or organisation would eventually be found guilty. The classic example was two years ago, the governor of Jakarta (capital city) who was also running for the next election, said something blasphemous about islamic scripture. The law is just incredibly subjective and could be used as a political weapon to knock down your political opponent. After that there were a series of protests by millions of people who wanted that governor to be imprisoned (some people even wanted to kill him). So for the past two years this issue about blasphemy has been on the rise. People seem to be easily offended these days. There was a woman who was sentenced to 18 months in jail for merely complaining about noisy mosque. Another resent case was two comedians had to become some sort of fugitives from some religious lunatics who wanted to kill them. And guess their crime? Cooking pork with dates. Probably because pork is haram (forbidden) and dates are some fruits that we often eat in Ramadhan, so they perhaps symbolize the religion. I don't know the rationale behind this, but this is just absurd beyond belief, and it's not even blasphemy. And I think the core problem is the mob mentality that has just become so crazy. Most of them probably haven't watched the videos, or don't know what the problems is, they just follow the crowd. Sorry for the long reply, this is just something that got under my skin. Anyway, I love your videos and your style of teaching. I've been trying to improve my accent, and I want one like yours.

A famous crime in my country is called the Car Wash, maybe you've already heard about it. A huge and "white collar" crime committed for politicians and businessman in Brazil. Even a ex-president was arrested (btw, he's now in a jail located in my city hahaha). Everyday a lot of sentences is made and new things is discovered about the Car Wash. That was only possible because of the great work of the federal police, the Public Ministry (which means Crow Prosecution service in UK) and the judge, Sergio Moro. Over the years, this specific case made a revolutionary change in political scenario, a historic number of people manifested on the streets claiming for anti-corruption attitudes from political system. It was a unique moment in Brazil's history.
Great job! Incredible how many crimes there are! I would also add 'bag snatcher' and 'pickpocket'. In Italy bag snatching is quite common in Prato (Tuscany). This is why many Italian women who walk in a street, don't hold their bags on the streetside.

She has been in prison for a year now, and nobody cares. I find it is the highest level of hypocrisy.
P.S. she is on hunger strike now.

Aly, you teach English so good, perhaps better than a "perfect" teacher. Thank you very much!
famous crime in my country is blasphemy which shouldn't have been a crime in the first place.
Whaaaaaaaaaat. Which country?
Wkwkwk. It's very annoying, right? So funny when thousands of people demonstrate for small case.
@@antiodespi3714 haha I think you're an Indonesian as well, because perhaps only indonesians would use wkwk. Yeah it is extremely annoying and sad at the same time when thousands of people make a big deal out of something that's so trivial.

Once I also shoplifted nuts, it was so attractive to my stomach😋
I also did that when I was young. I started eating oats from a barrel in a shop

wonderful. thanks so much. so love the fact that you act while teaching as it's so easier and better to learn things.
your way or style of explaining is absolutely wonderful, clear and easy to understand.
really great effort and work.
you deserve excessive admiration.
Great job! Incredible how many crimes there are! I would also add 'bag snatcher' and 'pickpocket'. In Italy bag snatching is quite common in Prato (Tuscany). This is why many Italian women who walk in a street, don't hold their bags on the streetside.
I hate those crazy people that they press dislike for your videos😡 they are mad, stupid, silly people.
