  • Second video in this Bahamas series. The flight to the Bahamas from KBCT. Flew into New Bight (MYCB) as an airport of entry. Enountered a deck of clouds at 7000 feet half way over and had to descend IFR to get to CAT Island. All of the logistic about making this flight I will cover in a separate video ie. EAPIS filing, Flight Plan filing , Frequencies in Bahamas and customs clearance.

    The pressure of planning and flying that sort of trip Solo is not to be underestimated. Your professionalism is admirable, especially with the added distractions in the aircraft.

    Great flight. You have inspired me to take my flying beyond 100 nautical miles. Flying with kids no matter what age is a challenge huh

    @29:29 You say, "this is Hawk's Nest", but I located Hawk's Nest Resort much further to the south on the island with a runway there.
    Nice video.

      This is New Bight. Currently the only airport on the island that has customs.

    Great video. I have a 182 myself and would love to take a trip down to the Bahamas. What software do you use to edit your videos? The multiple cameras you have really capture everything.

    Why do you use 10 degree flaps for take off. Is that sop for the c182?

    • @DrPilot
      @DrPilot  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill3558 only for short field takeoff

    Great video Doc! What made you choose MYCB?

    • @DrPilot
      @DrPilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were airport of entry. Arthurs Town needed to call in advance and charged extra fee so went to New Bight First and then flew on to Arthurs Town from there on next video !

    Ok, I have a question that might be a stupid question.. But, I am not a pilot so no knowledge on the subject. Does the FAA require you to wear life preservers in general aviation aircraft when flying over water? If so, do they require certain types? I ask because though I am not a pilot, I do skipper sailing yachts and we use PFD's that are super comfy and very low profile (mustang survival).

      CME4 Sheepdogs only if you will be more then 50 miles from shore. We are always in gliding distance from land though

      @@DrPilot Thank you. I figured there was probably a distance rule of some sort.

      On the intercom?

      Dr. Pilot, No. with both Palm Beach Approach, then with Miami Center, it sounded like there was some initial difficulty on one end of the other. Static too. Almost sounded like you had to turn down the squelch to hear them. On the Palm Beach piece, I first thought maybe you were still too low for good line of sight comm although I never experienced that flying out of KBCT.

    • @DrPilot
      @DrPilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Palm Beach was a little late picking up. I turned the squelch off just in case they were weak signal and I was not up high enough to hear them thats the static. They were just busy I guess.
