  • The Ottawa- Rockcliffe airport is a great small and welcoming airport close to downtown Ottawa. It is about 10 minutes by car from downtown, and it is located on the same land as the Canada Aviation and Space Museum.
In this video, I describe the airspace around the Ottawa Rockcliffe airport, and procedures to arrive and depart this airport. If you are flying in to see the museum, please contact Rockcliffe Unicom on 123.50 to advise that you are inbound and they will call the Museum security to allow you to enter from the field side.
For those who prefer a portable paper copy, here is an annotated map with the instructions and recommended procedures: bit.ly/2VLJoOy
In this revised version of the video, I've incorporated extracts from that document to show more clearly some of the routes and airspace sections.

WOW I'm planning my 300nm CPL cross country and one of my stops will be at Rockcliffe (want to visit the museum, too). This video was EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you so much!

Looking forward to your visit. Tell me how useful it was in practice and any improvements I could make.

Thank you for this. It is very complicated airspace however once broken down into individual areas it's ok. I flew in and out simply talking with terminal and they were helpful and accommodating. I should plan on visiting again this summer.

Thanks Peter, comments always appreciated. That was the reason: we know our airspace is complicated. We'll be pleased to see you again.

I asked Jean why is it recommended to stay at 1200' until you cross the Gatineau River before climbing when you take off on Rwy 09 but then depart from the downwind to the WEST. It seemed to be inconsistent with the recommendation to climb to 1700' when taking off directly from Rwy 27 to the WEST. The reason is because there are aircraft coming to the airport at 1700’ on the EAST side of the Gatineau River while you are leaving on the downwind for Rwy 09.
But when departing from Rwy 27 going directly WEST you can climb to 1700’ and there should be no conflict with those arriving at 1700' on the east side of the Gatineau River.
I hope this rationale is clear as the two different altitudes departing to the WEST seemed inconsistent to me without an explanation. Thanks Jean.
