A well deserved splurge for you and Ying. 😃👍🏻That is a huge suite and the private onsen with garden view looked like a great place to relax.

It is expensive but really worth your money as you get breakfast and dinner for two, good services, beautiful view, big room, located in Hakone, and private onsen!
Really nice experience, Mark. Thank you for sharing. Would love to be there someday :)

There are soooo many nice ryokan in Japan. It is a MUST MUST MUST to go to one of them. The best ones so far I could find in the area of Nagano. Missing Ryokan and Onsen so much...

Love your new channels! As a tourist/visitor we automatically book a hotel room for a trip- I don't think most people even consider other options, it's so cool to see different types of accommodations that really place you in the heart of a community. Thanks Mark!!

Hi Mark. My mom and I love watching your videos. She especially loves all your awesome reactions to good food. She just wanted me to let you know, in case no one has, whenever you go to an onsen, you never dip your head inside the water or wear anything in the bath. Unless of course they drain out and refill after each customer use. She's worried that other foreigners will watch onsen videos and think it's ok to put things in the water that everyone shares.
I'm so happy you got to experience a ryokan, especially a private bath one. Can't wait for yyoyrr next videos!

if you are planning to visit hokkaido in the future, you can stay at a ryokan overlooking the majestic lake toya. every night there is a firework display and the views of the lake are stunning. you can see the hokkaido's mt. fuji from the room called mt. yotei. i recommend you to visit hokkaido somewhere in middle of may for the sakura season. that hotel has also a nice garden with lots of sakura trees as well.

Wishing you and your families have a wonderful happy trip .

Even though I stayed in a different ryokan (much cheaper one lol), the rooms look almost identical, right down to the patterns of the duvets on the beds! But I do think you missed out on the communal aspect of the onsen. There's a ritual associated with it where you have to vigorously fully wash while sitting down on those upturned tubs (and I mean in all the nooks and crannies!) with the lovely soaps they have before you get in the bath. Then you pop in the water with everyone else (segregated by sex, of course), rest your folded towel on your head and soak for as long as you can take it. Then get out and do the washing process again. It was so refreshing and my skin felt so clean. My 6'5" extremely hairy brother-in-law said every time he went in, the pool cleared haha. Great video, would love to go back. And don't forget the amazing toy Tozan single-track railway back down!!

I know what you mean at the end when you mentioned rooms were filling up and you took what you could before it was all gone. When I was looking for a hotel to stay at, I procrastinated (also other reasons) and didn't choose until a week or so before the trip. Wasn't the cheapest, or the best, but good enough, and everything worked out!

    I'm Japanese.
However, I surprised to comment about this video :D
Ex: ”Wow, $708 over ? too expensive !”
    Because・・・・・
This Ryokan is 4stars Deluxe type ryokan. And this room is Special deluxe room what have 2 Japanese type (Tatami) Bed room, a small room ( called " Koagari " in Japanese),
and 2 private baths (1 inside and 1 outside (Roten-buro)).
Plus include Deluxe Japanese Breakfast, Kaiseki Dinner, Nakai's (:Nakai is woman room attendants) full butler service and TAX.
For me, Europe deluxe hotel ( over 4stars) fare is more expensive than the Ryokan. Moreover, It is only hotel room rate. LOL
