Watched one or two videos on this subject, this seemed to me to be the best as it is straightforward and seems to deal with all the necessary basics with good clear narration.
Excellent video. One question: how low should be the bottom of the artificial turf compared to the deck? I mean, if it's the same level, the grass leaves would be about 3cm above the deck and I think it would hold dust and everything else that comes from the deck. But if it's about 3cm lower, people could stumb on the deck. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks mate. I’m using Astro turf for my child minding business and so far I’m finding so much easier & helpful. Great video; very informative and helpful!
i dont know where to start... but i will just mention the seem , slightly wider tape would be better , and the glue should go across from side to side , if the tape rips in half , the carpet will lift , and nails? on a seem ? would you let your kids run bare foot in there ? nailed into the ground? how long will it hold ?
Might be a lot more work than you thought but if it makes it last say 10 more years then its well worth it.. Done a nice job, i dont normally like artificial grass but I'm actually thinking of having it now... No more pissin mowing 😊👍
I used to be a carpet fitter, fitted this onto playgrounds, and even to a indoor swimming pool, and when I left and got a driving job my new boss asked me to go to Wales and fit it around his carvan on the decking, so I took the wife and my son, he gave me a week to do the job, I finished it in 3 days.
Fantastic... thanks so much for this video well I see a few men doing this but I'll be doing it on my own I hope my back doesn't give out... I've had too many bad experiences with cowboy builders.. if it takes me a week I will do it.. looking forward to spring !
@@missionDan Not always true. I have worked for a few contractors and those guys who charges alot also cut alot of corners. Great video thanks for sharing! Quick question please......I am doing my back garden and I have the 'back end' of a fence (ie fence post showing). Do you put wooden frame against (in front of post) or in between the posts? What do you think would look better?? I am unsure?? TIA
It helps keep the grass weighed down better overall (especially around the edges where it was applied heavier). Also as you brush or rake it in, the sand will help the pile stand upright rather than flat, which wont look very nice.
Synthetic or artificial turf can be a great option for landscape areas where turf maintenance and growth is difficult. Now after watching this i am thinking to install it in my lawn soon.
Ooops. Already bought me grass. Didn't realise it needed all this prep underneath. Was just gonna wack a bit of black weed sheet on top of the soil first 😫
The council would have to disconnect the posts electrical supply and reconnection Tgis person would be held chargeable for this as they have altered the ground. But sure tgis is just a promotional video
@@ryanzanna I just wouldn't buy a property that has a council light in the garden. That's the problem with these new estates, no thought gone into them.
They dont like that, I've installed false grass a few times, you need to make a timber border around the perimeter of the area and around obstructions and then tack the edges down to that.
Use a stapling gun to hold down the lawn ...and lathwood edges sat on a wet mix ...joints will come apart using a solvent.... staple them together over lathwood coated in bitumen
Sttm35 the white fabric is anti weedmembrane. It allows water through but block UV so weeds can't grow. The backing on the grass is a mesh so lots of little holes to let rain through.
What is the recommendation on the cut out for the tree so it will continue to grow? I'm thinking about doing this but around my flowerbed and need to know cutouts for shrubs. TIA!
They did this hella wrong to so..... Its suppose to 2 Inches of drain rock and 2-3 of decomposed Granite for the turf I use a stabilizer to harden the area and have a tighter grab on the nail. Once turf is installed I apply 1-2 Lbs of sand per sq ft.
leo Gracia that is incorrect. You actually only need 2 inches compacted of class 1 breeze or crusher fines. Any other road base in unnecessary and a waist of money.
was thinking of doing this until I watched this vid, why cant you just lay it down like carpet? I have a decked area that is rotten, just want to cover it up.
Some people make silly observations about the plastic, the food of the cows etc etc but the true this system in the cities would save a lot of gas water and less chemicals in the earth to me it seems fantastic but it is somewhat expensive
its public space. that post looks to be positioned around 1.5 - 2 meters (at 0:19) from the street curb stone. normally, that's where the sidewalk would be. so no way in hell can it be in his garden. I think he is "growing" his garden in public spaces.
With the greatest respect planet earth needs grass over plastic. So many organisms are affected when there is no natural habitat. And how do you get rid of this in 20yrs? Not a fan myself.Humans are getting lazy keeping a good lawn is a skill and keeps you fit.The plant grass is excellent in the summer.
Royce, I think it`s more about providing microhabitats with real lawns. So many animals use lawns as a habitat and food source. Also we must think about plastic degrading over time and getting into the soil and therefore eventually the food chain. As a landscape contractor I really try to convince customers to go for real lawns.
MrSmid888 It’s impossible anymore to keep a nice lawn. With the banning of weed killers that actually work, lawns have become 70% weeds & hand weeding large properties is impossible.
Wow! The difference between a professional installation and how we did it.
This was awesome. Perfect installation with underlay sand and cleaned to perfection.
I must be mad to stick with my current lawn.
What a time to be alive....

What is the purpose of the sand on top of the turf?
will it be moistured eventually?
Hi.just wondering Why do you need to brush it up at the end with the sand ?
to stick the artifical grass, my nails wont stick to the artifical grass which underneath has sharpsand and subbase (type 1) compacted. Any advise?
What kind of box cutter is that you use to hammer the nail
This video is Much better than home depot video great work... amazing
Amazing. A job well done. All steps applied.

Very helpful video. Thank you
How much approximately did that particular job cost inc all materials and Labour ?
Hi sir, Thank you for the video! (It was very helpful)
Quick question: Why sand have to be applied after the installation above the turf?
It helps keep the grass weighed down better overall (especially around the edges where it was applied heavier). Also as you brush or rake it in, the sand will help the pile stand upright rather than flat, which wont look very nice.
Fitfreek any sand is ok ? Play sand ?
Robert Balderas kiln dried sand is what you need

Although I'm never gonna do this I actually really enjoyed it,but did I miss the reason why you put sand all over the lawn?
The sand regulates temperature and also helps keep the blades of grass upright in cold weather
@@MAADMO thanks
what's the final layers of sand for?
To absorb dog shit Hahaha😭😭
bigcrispyhied It’s actually to help the blades of grass stand up tall & not lay flat, as they take the sand through it at the end.

I got two questions: (1) Why did you lay the white fabric underneath?, (2) How good is the artificial grass as far as letting rainwater through?
+Sttm35 He says in the video 'weed membrane'. That should give you a clue ;)
Rainwater drains through fine
Sttm35 the white fabric is anti weedmembrane. It allows water through but block UV so weeds can't grow.
The backing on the grass is a mesh so lots of little holes to let rain through.

the sand is silica sand, right?
In 5 years the methods have changed so much
Is it recyclable?
What is the kill/dry sand for? (at the end of the video)
it weighs the grass down so it doesnt blow away
it's kiln dried. lol
Not only for adding weight but to keep the blades of grass standing straight up even after someone walks on it.
I also wanna know what happens to that sand if it rains
i think it gets wet?
What's the purpose of the sand at the end?
unknown astro turf how to lay it down
Provides stability and protects the turf, so no wrinkles or folds develop throughout the use. Also it makes it more fire resistant.
What is the benefit of this step? In 05:23 ?

And where there is a nobstickle
Why 5 layers of sand over the grass?
How much is all that sand? Be expensive I didn’t bother when I did mine and it’s fine
i put my on top of the grass just had a weed sheet ,the grass and weeds die quiet quick lol .
Was that patch of grass too big for someone to maintain?

Do you still need to cut it? If so, how often?
