I'm rewatching this review after Hard Reset. I was already on board with Ashes since I first played the first release of Ashes 2063. And I constantly revisited it up until the release of Afterglow, which made me a huge fan. I'm amazed at how this project came to be, it is now a better franchise than most commercial games.
this game is goddamn masterpiece! i refuse to call it a mod because of what it brings on the table. and all episodes are standaloes - no need for doom installation. also there is a new episode out titled "hard reset"
Great review. Shame you didn't continue in Let's playing it. Also, did you delete all off your content forever? I watched almost all of it 😅, but sometimes I like to rewatch things. Fro example Gothic series, Banner lord or stalker stuff. Now I can't. It is good you moved to new stuff. I appreciate that but don't need delete old content. Some of us, you know barflies, rustlers, Mr. Worldwides and pipesmokers want old stuff. But hey, it is your channel. It is just my three beans. Wish you and your family well and best in 2024. Yes, Ashes is superior to most stuff that exist. I a way. But there is still wads (and mods) out there worth your time. Not all of them are flashy like this of course but even non-full-conversion mods can offer similar fun. Mostly through tight gameplay, enemy placement and level design. Sometimes aesthetics and mood. Some of the best content I played was "just" doom mods without the stuff Ashes offers. Try Lost Civilization for non-linea levels and aesthetics. Or Deadd Air by Xaser. For gameplay alone there's a shitton of stuff to play. Ancient Aliens. Plutonia. Just look through the Cacowards of each year and you will never be out of ingenius wads. Fuck AAA gaming.

The atmosphere is even more intense if you don't play in Journalist mode!
You MAY be right that nothing, revolutionary happened with this game, but I think something, evolutionary took place. This game is something else.
