Absolutely stunning art work. Your style is so beautiful, I love the way you paint and your sketchbook has some unique and different inserts and views. I would be honoured to have any of these pictures in a frame hanging on my walls at-home. Thank you for sharing your skills and talents with us lesser mortals.
Beautiful work! I really enjoyed it. I have been watching your style with the dry brushing which isn’t always easy. But the sparkling on the water about half way through your book was gorgeous. And the close up of your palm tree with the light and shadow was gorgeous. Thanks for sharing it.
Absolutely stunning! My ancestors are from there and I just can't imagine the incredible beauty that they had before them along with the hardships. You're a wonderful story teller Sarah. Thank you for inviting us along with you on your amazing journey.
This is my absolute favorite sketchbook of yours. I just love the look of the toned paper with various mediums. I especially love white on that paper. I want to paint snow like you, when I grow up as an artist. 😄 I will most likely take your class in April!
I love your videos so much, the way you show us the beauty of nature is so stunning, your paintings are gorgeous and so inspiring. Thank you so much for making and sharing these! 💕
I'm really late to the comments on this, but thanks for sharing your beautiful work. It was also nice seeing I'm not the only artist out there who gets tired of a certain subject, medium, or approach and will randomly shift from pushing realism to sketchy illustrative things. I'm feeling more and more inspired to give gouache a chance. I'm pretty comfortable in my favorite medium of watercolors and feel like I still have so much to learn with that medium alone, but I love the look you can accomplish with gouache.
Wow so inspiring, awesome paintings 😍 i had a booked trip to Scotland, me and my sister was supposed to roadtrip in the north West 😍 going to pubs, hiking and just explore but COVID cancelled that 🙁
Oh my god, the gouache paintings are so so SO BEAUTIFUL! I have been using only watercolor so far, but this actually blew my mind..thank you for inspiting me to start using gouache and sharing your awesome work🥰
This paper certainly lends itself to your art work. It looks like amazing paper to work with and the paintings you created in this sketch book are mini stories in their own right. I most loved, the story pages of your trip away. The creativity to the layout and the way you are able to depict people with minimal detail but maximum impact really got me thinking. Being able to tell so much with so little is such an art form. I enjoyed this little book. Thank you for sharing.
Lovely work! You are the reason I started hoarding toned sketchbooks, though I went Strathmore for budget sake. I am a sucker for color and white gouache on kraft color paper. My fave from this book was your Isle of Skye travelogue!
This is so beautiful! I recently started using gouache and have a love/hate relationship with it. I’ve watched your Skillshare classes which have helped tremendously. Looking forward to the Etchr workshop!
Thank you! Its amazing to hear my classes helped. I love gouache so much...once you start to get the hang of it you'll feel so free to paint your heart out
Now I want to go to Isle of Skye even more 😅 I've been to the Outer Hebrides and it was such a magical place! I thi k I'm gonna look through my old hard drive to see if I can find all the photos I took and paint them 😍
I’m really enjoying your Sketchbook tours. They give me some inspiration for doing my own sketchbooks, now that I have 3 different types to try. So do you prefer cold press paper or hot press paper sketchbooks? I am leaning towards cold press even for doing detailed painting.
Love it Sarah! Your paintings are so beautiful! I can't wait to come back to Scotland and hopefully get to Skye, hopefully sooner rather than later. I'll be renting a camper. Ready for an adventure? 🌲🍄
Wow, your collection of sketchbooks is impressive. I am not a sketchbook person I tend to want to just paint paintings and if they're sketchbook quality then they get put in one pocket and if they turned out really great they get put in a sale pocket 😂
@@SarahBurnsStudio I've been doing timed painting for that so like I can't paint for more than a half hour and I got to stop. sometimes I paint along to your videos and listen to you or I'll put two videos in a row and that's how I time it out!
OMG were so yo get that beautifull hannemule watercolour sketchbook whit toned paper. Do they have grey paper too?😁👋🏾👍🏾✌🏾 i love to paint whit my himi miya gouache 56 set
Your gouache work is so wonderful! I have a question: do you use Dorland's wax on each of the pieces in such a sketchbook when you have work on facing pages? My experience has been that the work rubs together during travel and storage, causing some rub marks and sometimes transfer of paint, so I just paint on one page.
Yes, after I complete a sketchbook I do this. Mainly because my finished sketchbooks sometimes end up stacked on the shelf for a long time, which causes the pages to press together more. And this definitely helps.
@@SarahBurnsStudio I'm going to give that stuff a try, because I'd like to start using more of the sketchbook! I watched your video on how to use it, so I feel confident in its effectiveness. Thanks for that!
Hello Sarah ,I really love your art and I always follow your tutorials and try to recreate some of your landscapes(I'm not professional & I'am still learning from you) My question is does recreating art style of an artist gonna affect my art style(I mean like my developpement depends on this artist and I won't be able to have my own style) and also how can I find an art style of my own. Thank you so much😊❤
Instead of trying to copy their paintings only, try to observe things in their paintings and apply that to your own scenes. For instance, notice what color they use in the shadow or highlight. What shapes do they use. Is it very detailed or very minimal? Choose your own references and paint with those things in mind. And don't just look at one artist - look at many! Learn from many teachers. Paint often, repeat things. It takes time, doesn't happen overnight or even in one year. The more you paint what YOU want, the more noticable your own style becomes. And last bit of advice: don't think about style so much. Just paint what you like, with colors you like, and a way that makes it fun.
I find it interesting how our subconscious seems to absorb colours from our familiar landscape - in my case dreich and subdued. Then you go somewhere vibrant like the tropics and feel wonderfully stimulated - but gosh, it’s so hard to deal with a new palette!! Lovely video, thanks. Jill 🏴
Very inspiring! Congrats on you finishing this sketchbook! I have a question, how much time does it take to paint each day in order to participate in the 100 day challenge? I am a beginner and it takes me 1h30mins to finish a painting. Thanks
Hi! Can you please tell me what brand sketchbook that is? Im looking for a landscape style hardcover sketchbook with tan paper. Hopefully a little bigger than the one in your video. Please help!! 🤠
@@driss2286 I'm not exactly sure what you mean, it could be either a gradient, wet into wet, or layered- let one color dry then second color goes on top with dry brush texture

I would love to live there . Our desert isn’t so inspirational. How do you decide when to use toned paper?
I just prefer to start with toned paper/medium value, rather than stare at white paper!
brand of the sketchbook please?

For beige paper I HIGHLY recommend the Stillman & Birn Nova, it’s my current favorite.
6:45 how do you shift between colors without actually mixing them?like in this painting(yellow and blue)
You mean putting two colors next to each other?
@@SarahBurnsStudio yes but in your painting the colors look like they're blended
