Probably the closes the Philippines will see a Viper with the MRF up in the air I'm just hoping for a follow-on order of the FA-50/T-50PH so at less 12 can be used for LIFT while the others can be speread out in different parts of the country.

Why buy MRFs now when we can barely defend our airstrips? Chinese guided missiles can easily take out our runways with our current air defense capability. You'll end up with jets that can't even take off if we spend all our money on MRFs right now.

This jet doesnt really need a two seater even when used as a trainer. And anyone trained on it can be able to upgrade to any top of the line US combat aircraft. As for this jet, what it really need to become deadly is the AESA Radar and LANTIRN Pods and a few guided munitions and AA missiles. If this happens, it will be as deadly as the Viper block 60 or the latest block 70
It will be happen soon, Koreans are making AESA radar for FA-50. it will make it possible to long range BVR A2A fight.

This bilateral excercise are one of the reasons why I favor the F-16 over the Gripen, not saying its bad fighter I think on its own the JAS-39 is a superb fighter on its own right! But from an operational view the Viper would be preferred especially with the FA-50 being selected for the SAA/LIFT which itself is based on a derivative of the F-16.
This fighter is a very good and capable one. In this age, as long as it has enough speed to get where it should be to fire those missiles, then it serves it's purpose. No need for expensive multirole fighters that need so much maintenance and costly to operate. A good fighter that has the best missiles, will do the job.
The problem was the ones purchased by our government were not BVR capable that is the very reason why President Duterte is trying to purchase Jas gripen 39.

The PAF need more of this at least another 12 units of this type, while waiting the acquisitions of the chosen MRF, well i hope that the government would acquire the Advance variant of the KAI FA-50, Block 20 which are capable of the BVRAAM weapon system, inflight refuelling system and equipped with the AESA multi targert fire control radar, to served its purpose as a force multiplier for additional air power.

That FA-50 is a neat fighter. Wonder why the U.S. never brought it into service?
I'm guessing it could be logisitics -- better to support fewer systems at one time, so the F-16 already has the job for us.
Because they have to help Boeing since they're in danger with huge debt.
So USAF has decided to rent fa-50 jets for a few years until Boeing is recovered.
I think they don't need the FA-50 since they have their own fighters. And it keeps the logistics at a minimum
FA-50 is 70% Korean with some US tech. Plus it is a light fighter which the US doesn't need.
Because the FA-50 is only a trainer jet not a real jet fighter... the US Air Force uses the T-38 Talon as a trainer jet.

fa50 is korean variant sa F16 although may tinangal sila na general parts sa korean variant. lam mo naman ayaw ma copya ung nasa f-16 hehe.

Don’t forget that even FA-50, Brp Jose Rizal & Brp Antonio Luna were too expensive for us either. Even had to downgrade some more for lower discount prices but we still don’t have the money to arm them.

@@YournewFrizzishere but the recommedations have changed. DND and AFP are now approved the proposal to buy the Swedish JAS-39C/D Gripen rather than F-16C/D Block 70 Viper. Awaiting approval from Malacañang.
